Nice video. I think P.T. was the first horror game that scared me in a genuinely satisfying way. It's probably better that Silent Hills was never made. To me it's far more compelling as just an idea and probably could never have lived up to our expectations.

For a self-proclaimed "amateur" you sure do bring some damn quality content to the table. Would you consider doing a video essay on "Natural horror" in video games? Stuff like the ocean from Subnautica or the cold of winter in The Long Dark. I've always loved games like those far more than traditional horror with monsters and jumpscares, but there's a very fine line between doing it right and it just feeling like your average survival game experience

I absolutely love when people cover PT. the existence of it is almost a lingering thought that kind of just sits there until you really just think about it. I really wish they had continued it. -- aside from this, i just found your channel and can feel all of the love and passion in each video!! I hope you return sometime! : D

I absolutely love Silent Hill and I still think that taking P.T. down was a crime. I have the image of Lisa standing beneath that swinging chandelier as my phone lockscreen saver; it was just such a good horror game by itself, but it to imagine what it could have been, the potential, is kind of devastating.
This video was great, I watched the one you made on Liminal Spaces right before finding this one. Your channel is wonderful, I'm so happy that I discovered it! :)

I just stumbled across your channel while looking for stuff about liminal video games as I work on my own, and I wanted to say I really like your stuff and this video in particular. I also noticed you haven’t uploaded in a few months. As a creator, I certainly can’t judge (I think my Twitter bio still says I’m an aspiring video essayist though my last video essay was nearly 2 years ago and I go half a year at best between film releases as a filmmaker) but I hope it’s not a sign that you’re moving away from UA-cam or even “giving up”. I’m subscribed and I really hope I see more stuff from you soon!

I’m not much of a horror guy but I definitely remember the buzz around this demo when it got released and the outcry over the cancellation of Silent Hills. I wonder if it’s more the quality of the game itself that keeps leading people back to it, or the idea of this game that never was that draws the imagination, or some mixture of both. Thanks for the deep dive.

PT is kinda special to me. i was 9 when it released, and it was my first exposure to the silent hill franchise and one of my first horror game experiences in general. i didn't have a ps4 at the time so i watched basically any video i could on it, but it was still absolutely terrifying.
i'll forever be upset that we'll likely never see more of it.

A separate, finely crafted game as promotional material? By Hideo Kojima? For Konami? Called Ground Zeroes? Granted, it's a short game that you have to pay for, but the hype for Phantom Pain was solidified with Ground Zeroes. It was also highly replayable. There have been other cases of using a separate game to promote the main course since, however. Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, Exanima (which is its own thing while at the same time being a showcase for Sui Generis), the more recent Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, the much older Viscera Cleanup Detail: Shadow Warrior... People have a hard time remembering all of that because, admittedly, PT succeeded in being a viral piece of media. The idea of PT is far from new. What makes it stand out is the way it was executed.

    • @sorbino_
      @sorbino_  Рік тому

I once saw a video that posited that Silent Hills was actually never going to happen, that it was actually a move by Hideo to give one last middle finger to Konami execs as he left.
The theory goes, that the writing was on the wall for Hideo for a while into MGS5's development so he and his close friends pulled together PT on the side as they finished up MGS5 and released it without Konami's consent and that this firing thereafter and the reception from the fans of both MGS and PT/Silent Hill was his way of saying "good luck without me."

  • @deadtotheworld

I’m lucky to still have this game installed. I play it each year with my fiends. I was thinking about how the game would have been if it were to come out, recently. In my mind this game has leveled up to an ascended tier and any interpretation now can only be a shadow of what that myth is.
I think people are crazy if they don’t think Silent Hills will eventually release. The name alone adds a very logical next step for the series. Why would konami not adapt a first person perspective. It may have nothing to do with pt but theyd have to compete. If it were to release it would be far from now.

    • @sorbino_

i think the announcment of this new, seemingly expanded Silent Hill universe is very, very curious. the name "Silent Hills" always seemed to allude to an extended influence/universe of Silent Hill, now we've got the upcoming "Silent Hill f" which is literally in a different town, and the other new titles announced. idk it's definitely got the wheels spinning again...

If we speak in marvel Phases, possibly a “3rd phase” could make sense to have silent hills. After “phase 1” rolls out they may want to remake some metal gear for the 2nd or a couple other movies. If mgs remake happens then hills may be a guarantee in the future. But idk I might have a game of my own by that time

Even if you own a PS4 with PT on it, if the primary account on the system did not buy the game, then the game is unplayable. I know this because my roommate downloaded it when it was still up, i never deleted it and when i moved out we removed the roommates account. i lost so many games that way

Konami shot themselves in the foot by Canceling silent hills. People loved the PT demo I was one of the people who downloaded it before it was taken off of PSN . The reason why Konami Canceled silent hills was because they thought Nobody wanted horror games even if one million downloads of the Playable teaser Was not enough to convince the suits .

De dechets et du sang... ...brulant... ...tus.... Of offal and of the blood... ...burning... ...still.... it is free with kindle unlimited it is a collection of English/French poems and short stories hope you like something if you read
Here is one of the poems it is a poetic interpretation of head of a dead young man painting by theodore gericault
Head of a dead young man
Beneath a canvas coarse and crass, the head of a young man upon a cushion soft and of care; feminine chin; upon the lower lip the blood of God; fine nose; hair of an infant here...and...down there; upon his front, the sublime illumination, that descends, intimately as though of ivory flame.... ...when, of lavender and of rose, ascending vaguely towards the exegetic darkness, the offal; disclosed thus, profound and grave, an immense lesion, as though of a dolourous ulcer...from where all comes...where all returns....
