Is Medium and such links worth going for? They are nofollow I believe like most of these (are they web2's) I know Google does value some nofollow and even just brand mentions could now be valuable. But I wanted to ask who is using these to get some backlinks?
So they are good for relevance but they aren't super powerful so they're not going to help you get from position 5 to position 1 for a keyword. I wouldn't not build them as they can be a good foundational link however!

Some sponsored content has been hit also for example telegraphs betting silo could be considered as sponsored or partnership content
