The announcement of a new Psychedelic Furs album makes the loss of Andy Gill of Gang of Four hurt just a little less. Great news from Richard and the Furs and Rest in Peace Andy....gone too soon.
OMG!! I LOVE THIS BAND. There is a Japanese band, formed in 1981, around the same time the Furs originated, called Boøwy, who also were in full stride, and at their Rockin'-est heights, and popularity in the 80's, who are also Uber Cool, with a somewhat similar look and vibe, with a static and stern bass player, and an over active / dynamic, happy lead guitar player. The lead vocalist Kyosuke Himuro, who also has an amazing voice, looks and has a stage presence, very much like Richard Butler. There is a similarity of some of both bands cover / liner art, and song titles, e.g., the 1986 Boøwy release / album, song and cover art, Beat Emotion, Beat Sweet vs the furs Heartbreak Beat. The song, Rain in My Heart, vs Made of Rain. The 1987 Boøwy song, Longer than Forever vs the Furs 1982 Forever Now. The inside jacket cubed looking art on Boøwys liner art and cover art resembling the Furs U.K. issued Forever Now, All of this and Nothing, and Midnight to Minight, respectively. All coincidence? Perhaps.Too much time on my hands? Probably. Simpatico? Cosmic emulation? I'm not sure. Does anybody really care? Probably not. It is however, something, that makes me say Mmm 🤔. Either way. NB - The NYC date that Richard Butler speaks of in the interview, has yet to be confirmed and there is no date at this time of writing.
They were considered New Wave in the States, back in the day. Whatever. They're one of the best bands in the Glorious History of Rock and Roll.
