back when i was 13 yrs old i was in love with this game, open world, rpg? it was just right for me, i pledged pretty early to the project, n played it quite often, even with my lil brother back then, i ended up pretty high level, n i too loved how u could tame certain animals which could then aid you, you'd need certain foods for certain animals, n then you could ride em, n they would too help you in combat what disappointed me with the steam release tho, was that it had almost 0 sense of progression, like everything you did was more or less meaningless, no skill tree so no real leveling, every bit of gear you got became useless in other areas, sure "biome" specific gear would be okay i guess, n if you had an armor slot for each biome, i guess it would be abit more fun, or just keep it as the alpha was, tho modders did fix that issue, i still was abit disappointed about what my childhood game had become, n for the dev to just suddenly abandon ship without a word, n leaving the game as is, just kind of adds salt to it all i am overjoyed to see that the dev is game in action, and what he has shown so far looks amazing, i rly do hope the dev has taken in some of the feedback regarding the current game, and i do agree, release it in early access, n dont have it cost too much, im sure if he had released the current steam release as is, but as an early access, n took in feedback, im sure things would of gone better, n i do agree, get a community manager of sorts to help out with the community.
I think they just got overwhelmed being just two devs. Wolly and his wife. I mean thats gotta be hard. BUT I DID LOVE PLAYING CUBE WORLD. I bought it from the devs and I put the Steam version on a wishlist. Once I found out about the progression being different I never got that version. I still have the Dev one I bought. Great fun game to play. Terraria and MineCraft is a pretty accurate description IMO.
The release was bogged down by negative feedback, a ddos to his website, and he went radio silent shortly after launch on steam. It's wholly understandable that it would be too much to handle as a two person dev team.
The fact that Wollay still won't allow people's criticism to reach him, i.e disabled comments, tells me this is another cash grab. He's not getting my money again.
Criticism has to be constructive. Let's be honest, we all know 90% of comments would be "cash grab", "go k**** yourself", "why are you even here", "just go away" etc... Which, isn't criticism, just hate... Twitter is already a "nice" place to have such toxicity, why would you need it on YT ? Don't get me wrong though, I don't defend Wollay or what he did, I do understand why people are angry at him. And for now, we only know he's making another version. It doesn't mean it will be a new game you'll have to pay for. Maybe just an update, or a new "gamemode" in the main menu who knows
@@brunon554 Okay? Just because there's tons of disgruntled customers, all of them completely justified, doesn't mean you should just reject *ALL* criticism.

It's good to see Wollay stick with Alpha's foundation. Beta had interesting ideas, additions and content, but the foundation was changed and lost what made Alpha fundamentally good. In fact, seeing stuff like adding unique abilities to different non-boss characters does open up options, and that's good for new content. Before, it was just bosses and player-type classes that had abilities, and bosses were limited to a few they could have. Adding new abilities to regular enemies also means that perhaps pets could have that too, and stuff like zombies grab can lead to more gimmicks on the dev table. As long as Wollay keeps himself in a good state, and doesn't lose sight of the foundation of Alpha (which it doesn't seem like he is losing it), then hopefully it goes smoother. He seems to have a good pace and is eager to show code (which no matter how insignificant, tends to be a touchy subject in development). That's more confidence than i expected. But time will tell if his path is sturdy.
When I first saw gameplay of Cube World, I was 10, in sixth grade. I saw the amazing potential the game had, which made me want to imagine by myself how to make the concept even better. Nine years later, I'm now studying game design and creating game concepts is my passion. Cube World is the spark that created this passion I have and I am so, so glad that Wollay is back on working on this game.
I still play the alpha every now and then, I just wish there was a multiplayer framework for the alpha like some other old games have gotten over the years but community's too small. I rmr hunting for 97/100 power red items with friends was a pretty fun endgame
As long as the gameplay mechanics are completely different I’m very excited to play!! I was looking in the blog with no word but the alpha was so much better then the beta
I missed my chance to purchase the Alpha when it came out, and was pretty disappointer. I did end up finding a copy to try out, and it was pretty clunky and unfinished at the time, then I was a bit shocked when the Steam release came out and it was completely different. I do hold out hope for a polished game though.
The Steam release was pretty good but once I finished the first region, I had no desire to play the game anymore because you basically restart the whole game.
what happened with cube world was odd to say the least. The criticism was in my opinion was too much all at once. sure it had a few problems but the big issue was the disappearance (this dev is known for going inactive for long periods anyway.) If wollay had the energy and the time to deal with it by patching the game then things definitely would have blown over quickly. however I felt that the criticism drowned the developers. They needed time to recover from that. I'm not saying it was not justified criticism, just way too much from everyone all at once, which is never fun. The base game that was there was fun, and I think the alpha actually ended up being a better game because of several odd changes to systems. but if wollay would like to take another crack at it, I'm all for it. I hold no ill will toward the devs for how they decided to change their game, rather it just became a game that some of us were not as enthusiastic about playing.

Moving the whole game to a new engine has probs taken him atleast 2 years. And besides, we dont know if its even a new game, that is speculation.
