hey pc builder, im looking to buy a i5 12600k with an rtx 2070 super, aswell with a z690 motherboard, is that a good cpu and gpu combo for 1080p competitive settings in most games?
I have an 11700k + 3090 + 32GB 3600. I’m good for now. Not impressed with 4090 enough to upgrade. Will wait for independent tests + RDNA3 reviews. My wife has an older 3600XT + RX580 and could use an upgrade. I’m liking the 5600X + 6650XT combo, as she has a 1440p monitor and her B450 board is still running strong.
You've outdone yourself with this one. I don't think there's a tech channel that explains so much with so much clarity in a fraction of the time. I'd call this "PC upgrading for dummies with Jason." That's how clear and concise this is. Congratulations man. And congrats on reaching 200,000 subscribers!
I don't know what you mean by "dummies" because I personally have a headache after this video and I'm 500x more confused than I was before even starting to watch it... so the right title should be "PC upgrading for savy users - the compact version" for whom all this info actually means something and is helpful. For the rest of us mortals, this is overwhelming at best and borderline mental breakdown at worst XD Not everyone is a gamer you know... some of us are graphic designers and just want to update our tech to work more comfortably.
You are an elite content creator, literally every single question I've had you answer and get directly to the point. Helped me find and build it and now upgrade. Thanks for the help!
With my i5-6402 and rx 480, I recently upgraded from 8 to 16 gigs of RAM with the help of your videos. In the coming months I’ll upgrade to a 12th or 13th (if soon) gen i5 with a 6600(ish) gpu.
One tip you should add to your cpu cooler removal. Run the pc first for 15-20 mins just at idle, this will ensure the cooler comes off with ultimate ease. I ripped a cpu out of socket just trying to pull the cooler, the pc hadn't been used in days. Expensive mistake.
Interesting! I've done that too btw on my wife's editing PC she needs for work lol! See our 5950x build for the full story on that one. Thanks for the tip!
Jason, another helpful guide. Thank you! Especially liked the pointer about slightly twisting the old CPU cooler when replacing to break the seal from the thermal paste so you don't pull out the AMD Ryzen chip -- which I've done before 🤓
Also, regards your SSD considerations at time marker 10:34, have you ever thought about doing a how-to guide for cloning when upgrading a SSD (NVME or SATA) system drive so we wouldn't have to do a complete reinstall of Windows on the new drive? There's other UA-cam videos on this subject out there, but wondering if you may have a 'PC Builder' take on this particular upgrade.
Avoiding OEM pre-builds is wise if you intend to upgrade over time. At one time they had a huge cost advantage and I bought one with Vista as it was certified for Linux. It meant the hardware ran pretty reliably with WHQL, especially after SP1. Generally I rather install Windows myself as OEMs ship so much crapware and nagware that it drives me crazy.
@@user-yu4mf6bs4f Right, but people need to know they can install Windows fresh and eradicate it. I have NEVER had any software with ANY real value out of crapware.
I have a cv 550 psu and currently have a gtx 1650 without a cable any idea if there could be a cable somewhere hidden by the prebuild manufacturer as I’m looking to get a 3060
Went from my old rx 580 4gb to a 6600 xt. Seen a little boost but not a ton, though double the vram is nice. Finally upgrading my trusty old 1400 to a 5700x that should be here today. Maybe that will show the difference between the old GPU and the new one a little more. I'm going to be putting the old cpu and gpu back into the pre-built they came in for my SO. The old b350 mobo in the pre-built may be bad (I reused every other component besides psu, case and ram) so that will give me the excuse to go from b450 to b550 on my new setup and throw the b450 in the old one, which may also help the new 6600 xt marginally with pci 4.0. I do need a new SSD for the old system that only ever had a hard drive and both systems could use more storage in general. Lastly im not sure if my current 2x8 3200 cl14 ram should get another set for 32gb for the new system or if I should just get a whole new kit at a higher speed and throw the 3200 in the old system that came with 1x8 (not sure of speed) instead of doubling up on both systems.
So, having a 7th gen intel i7-7700 with 4 cores and 8 threads isn't worth the upgrade (of GPU) and would rather be worth the money for a new PC build? For further reference: CPU: 7th gen intel core i7-7700 kaby lake Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z270F Gaming, Socket-1151 GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Strix Gaming RAM: 2x Ballistix Sport DDR4 8GB Ram (16GB in total) SSD: Samsung PM961 SSD 256GB M.2 NVMe GPU cooling - Corsair Hydro H100 radiator

hi, Mr. PC Builder. About the Reinstalling the chipset drivers, can you elaborate do or a demonstration how to do it? I don't want to mess up if I tried to do it. Thank you!!
Great Video!! I am getting ready to do my first build towards the end of the year. My Dell 8300, Intel i7-2600, 12GB and R9 380 are finally going to get put to rest. I was able to transplant my Dell system into newer Cooler Master case and upgrade my CPU cooler earlier this year. I am continually saving up for deals on BLACK FRIDAY and will be looking for CPU (Ryson 5 or 7), motherboard (B550), RAM (16GB), and (M.2 1 TB) hard drive. The GPU will have to wait for round 2 of the savings plan but I am hoping for a hand me down 1060 or 1660 in the meantime. I am excited to finally see how FarCry 6 and CyberPunk 2077 actually are supposed to run in 2023, and yes, they do run on my current system. :) Thanks for all your videos and keep them coming!!
05:30 I would add, uninstall old drivers if you switch between Nvidia and Amd. The best software for that is DDU. Run pc in Safe mode, start DDU uninstall drivers and shotdown. Turn off PSU, hold few sec power button to draw electricity. Replace GPU, start PC.
Great video! Any beginner or intermediate builder should review this video when upgrading their systems. The only caveat I would make is if anyone wants to buy a 4070 series or higher NVIDIA graphics card would be to purchase an ATX 3.0 spec power supply with the appropriate wattage necessary for CPU and GPU combined max output. Seems there can be a fire risk(!?!) if using an old school ATX 2.0 spec PS. Cheers!

I was lucky enough to buy a pre-built PC (the teen who owned it only had it for only 5 months but needed money for a car) for only $600. The specs are crazy for the price. Now i'm looking to upgrade.
I have OEM pre-build pc from dell inspiron 5680 (GTX 1070 - i7-8700) bought back in 2018 Christmas holidays it was on special. No problems what’s so ever with my pc. Perfect video! My build was a Ryzen 5 3600 + GTX 1660 super. Upgraded to RTX 3070 Then found your video and got great tips (especially because it was the exact same build!)

Not sure what way to go though, suggestions?
I'm upgrading my GPU from integrated graphics to a GTX 1650, they're selling for super cheap right now so i am grabbing one for myself while i still can
hey Jason, I'm planning to upgrade from a 1050 Ti to a 3060 Ti. I currently have a 500 watt psu, do you think this will be enough or should I upgrade it as well? I'm also using a ryzen 5 2600 and 2 sata ssds. Thank you.
Depends on the other components, but you'll likely need to go up on the PSU (see our PSU video). I'd also swap in a Ryzen 5600 if you can at the same time, big improvement over the 2600.
I have a prebuilt from Build Redeux with standard parts born from the covid days, desperation definitely cost me. I've spent a lot of time on your channel and wish your 5600x build existed those days. I bought a new monitor to play at 1440 but i wish it was a more comfortable and richer experience. So now im in this hole of what to upgrade. I've got the sinful Asus x570, Ryzen 5600x, 3060 ti, 16gb (8x2), M.2 NVMe 500gb, (expanding the memory is what started everything), PSU 600w.
More storage would be great for you. And you could drop in a 5800X3D (max possible upgrade with AM4) and then you can pair that with any GPU you like up to a 4090 in the future.
You forgot to mention after powering off the computer and unplugging it, to then press the power button on the case too make sure no residual energy is left over in the psu
*NOTE: For Intel Motherboard compatibility, check out our PC Parts Explained Video*
What is your setup, and what are you thinking of upgrading?

@@jpzin4478 I've got all that except I'm using a 2080 super so I'd say that's fine

It's fine but a little unbalanced. Sightly overkill CPU for that GPU for gaming. So you might go down in the CPU and up in the GPU if you can.

Good video to have, especially with so much new hardware coming out soon.
Yes! We thought this might be useful right now (:
Perfect video! My build was a Ryzen 5 3600 + GTX 1660 super. Upgraded to RTX 3070
Then found your video and got great tips (especially because it was the exact same build!)
Hi, looking to do the same potentially, did you see a big performance boost?
I have a RTX 3060, what Graphics card should I upgrade to?
Congratulations of 200k !!🤗
My pc is already a beast idk why I'm watching this, but ig this just shows either I'm a pc enthusiast or he's just good making videos, maybe both
I like both! Glad you enjoyed the video (:
Congrats on 200k Jason!! Thanks for another great video!
Thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed the video
These are my specs, wondering if anything should be upgraded
AMD ryzen 7 5800x cpu
nvidia 3070 ti
motherboard/ asus prime x570 pro
32gb ddr4 ram/ two 16gb g skill
750w gold psu
storage 1tb gen4 ssd
I'm upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D and RTC 3060 from a Ryzen 5 3600XT and Radeon RX 580. Will I need to do a full wipe of windows for this?
Thinking about upgrading motherboard and CPU, because well...:
Case:NZXT Manta
CPU Cooling: NZXT Kraken X62
PSU: Corsair TX750M -750W
MB: ASRock H97M-itx/ac
CPU: Intel i5 4690
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080
RAM: 16GB Corsair DDR3 1600C10
I'd like to upgrade to something that'll be able to handle the RTX 40series, but keeping the 1080 for now. Not sure what way to go though, suggestions?
I have a gtx 960. Can I upgrade to any graphics or am I gonna have to upgrade power supply, etc?
he really answers my questions i can never figure out thank you
So glad we could answer them for you! Thanks for watching :)
Each time I google search a problem I always ended up with one of your videos, so you earned my sub Sir!
That's great to hear! Welcome to the channel and thanks for the sub
Did you have to re-install windows or kept the one on your drive?
It's been a long time since I built a new system or installed Windows. Is it still smart to keep your Windows install on a separate drive?
200k, good job, congrats!
Thank you so much!
Guys I need help, I’m very new to pc things. I just recently bought a pre built pc but is it fine if I just install more ram to make it better?
it depends, how much ram do you have currently?
Depends on the prebuilt and on what you are looking to improve.
@@juicy1758 It only has one stick of ram and since I’m new to this stuff I really don’t know how much it is
Once I swap my older Intel G5400 Coffee Lake to a new Intel i7 what else needs to be done?
Ah. Excellent. Exactly what I needed. Thank you.
Glad it helped! Thank you for watching!
Just found your channel today and subscribed. Well deserved for the 200k subs!
Awesome vid... very informative and spot on ....
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching
@@PCBuilderChannel Your welcome ...
I'm upgrading my GPU from integrated graphics to a GTX 1650, they're selling for super cheap right now so i am grabbing one for myself while i still can
Thank you! You and Mr Bear are working hard today too! 😸
Hi Valentina! Hope you are having a great weekend!
@@PCBuilderChannel Thank you! That's so nice! I hope you are having a great one too!! 😸
Looking for upgrad thoughts: CPU-i57600k, ASUS STRIX Z270G, 2x 8GBDDR4 3200k, GPU RX470 4GB, PSU CX650M
Clean installs of windows every few years is essential!
Look forward to your new videos every week even if it has nothing to do with me. Enjoy the rest of your weekend
Would pairing a i7 9700K with a 6700xt be a good cpu and gpu to pair together?
Im running a gtx 1060 3gb with a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7400 CPU @ 3.00GHz, and 16gb ram whats some recommendations for good upgrades?
I have now upgraded to a 5800X3D with a 6700XT with an EVGA 850 GQ, 80+ GOLD 850W since my old PSU was not up to snuff.
I have a old eMachines EL1850G and i dont know if i should by a new pc or upgrade it
hey Jason, I'm planning to upgrade from a 1050 Ti to a 3060 Ti.
@@PCBuilderChannel yes, I was thinking of getting the 5600 and in that case I thought of getting a 650 watt.
And you could drop in a 5800X3D (max possible upgrade with AM4) and then you can pair that with any GPU you like up to a 4090 in the future.
my Processor is AMD Ryzen 3 2200G with Radeon Vega Graphics, 3500 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) is that good?
You forgot to mention after powering off the computer and unplugging it, to then press the power button on the case too make sure no residual energy is left over in the psu
Thank you being very educational when you talk. I’m not very good at computer components but you made it easier for me to understand!❤️
So glad it was helpful!
Hello can you answer my question please I want to buy a all pc component in Black Friday and I think it will be better or should I build now?
Hi Jason and his team, is it safe for a 11th i5 with 600W 80+ white PSU to upgrade my GTX 1650 to RTX 3060Ti ?
