Hey everyone! Thanks all for watching! Just wanted to make one thing clear: yes, I know Twoset's video is a joke, and no, I was not offended by it 😂 I thought I made that clear in my video but maybe not 😜 Twoset are awesome and hopefully one day you'll see a recorder/violin collab 😎 Have a good day! ❤️
Sarah Jeffery / Team Recorder i love your video and finds you to be very funny! But initially i really thought you are being offended by twoset because of your thumbnail lol. Pls do a professional vs beginner video with twoset!!! 🥺
I.hope I guys do video together
@@edibingbing1 She's completely serious in the vid, don't like the joke from Twoset, they always play the "dumbest musical instrument musician" for fun in others videos and now they receive a serious response, but yeah, no drama guys just chill.

She is a really mature and professional musician, UA-camr and person in general. PLUS, TwoSet Violin always makes this kinds of jokes in good fun and they do not mind being schooled about it if they have offended someone. So I guess THIS CALLS FOR A COLLABORATION! i'd prefer something like great and beautiful duets/trios with violin & recorder played by Sarah and two set violin.
i was looking for this comment
COLLAB!
Personally, I think the recorder gets a bad rap because every elementary music teacher uses them with her class full of kids. (It's the same way with xylophones.) When you have kids bopping one another on the head and turning them into lightsabers the children don't grow up feeling as though they are "real" instruments. I bet the majority of people have never actually heard a professional recorder player in their life. If they did I think many attitudes would change in regards to this beautiful instrument. You should do a collaboration with 2set. It would be amazing to hear you guys play together. 💕
in my old school, students from 4th grade and higher got to choose either recorder and pianica while the younger ones played only recorder. Now I am thinking whether professional pianica player is a thing.
Ya, at my school it was considered an actual instrument because the music teacher could play a recorder quite well
@@vitaminc2161 in my school in third grade we play melodica in fourth grade we play melodica in fifth grade we play both melodica and recorder in sixth geade we play melodica

BRUH when she got to the alternative techniques..... 😭😭 how do you make an instrument sound like you're shredding an electric guitar and then like your instrument is a bird chirping ???? i'm literally in awe. i haven't played the recorder since grade school but maybe i should invest in one again 😳
Brett and Eddy were so used to making viola jokes without consequences that they probably weren't expecting the recorder community to clap back so hard 😂
Stephanie Wonders I don’t think they have a problem with this roast video. I think they would enjoy it! It’s not in their personalities to be mean and they love people with real classical skills.

@@malahamavet Violas can play lower than violins, but not as high as them
Bwa ha ha I meant to say 'viola, cello and double bass' but evidently cannot make words
@@malahamavet The two are fundamentally the same in terms of design and technique. The Violin is the highest on the register; the lowest pitch string is G3 the highest string is the E-String 5 (both instruments have 4 strings with 4 notes between each). The Viola's lowest bitch string is C3, and whilst the G, D, A strings that follow are the same pitch as the violin's (I think from observing as a violinist, might be incorrect), the sound is different, given the Viola body's depth and additional length, producing a darker more woody sound.
Indeed, the Viola is the butt of jokes in the String Community due to its similarity to the Violin and the fact that they usually never lead an ensemble, getting lost in between the Violin and Cello. When I was in school orchestra I was mystified by their presence "What do you guys do again, apart from pretending your violins?" Ho-ho.

The recorder only has a bad reputation because of the American Public School system imo. Just because they gave them out like cheap toys in 4th grade.
I think it's the same for many more countries. Before I learned an 'actual' instrument I played the recorder. That awful sound still rings in my head whenever I see that instrument mentioned.
@@enzo--LoL i do think schools in malaysia was like that, or probably in my state 😂. But yeah at least in my school, recorder is a must thing to buy. And i remember watching my school compete with other schools, it was like sea and the sky😂😂 other schools only have the ordinary yamaha recorder, meanwhile my school have variety kinds of recorder, from the biggest to the smallest ones.
Lots of countries use the recorder to show students/children a way in to music. It’s cheap, easy to stack and almost any kid can make a sound.

Wattouat BrillantNoir
Yeah.
(Also I just do not get their viola hate at all. The instrument’s lovely and gets tones that most violins do not. The violist I knew in college actually had everyone begging for him to play with him since there were maybe *FIVE* violists on campus. So yeah. Their hate just comes across as envy. And violists have to play in C clef vs G clef...which is a chore to deal with Just Theoretically since unlike G and F and it just never became Fixed.)
I was gonna say, when Two Set starts to make recorders jokes as oftent as viola jokes, then you can get upset ;)
Yes, I miss those videos, it would be awesome!
Thing is though that viola is taken far more seriously than recorder.
That said, most do know what joking is and when someone is being malicious!
Martin Breton
The difference is that violinists are the only ones to bash violas (what. Compensating much? Sure violins may “include part of the viola range” with second violinists but it just does not have that same tone. They’re meant to go high, not low.)
...while recorders get shat on by...basically the entire world.
This was really an eye opener! I especially loved the alternative techniques on the recorder and the glissando was pretty cool. Glad I found your channel through Twoset Violin!
violins: everyone knows
cellos: most people knows
bass: most people know assums just a cello for a giant

its either that or their like "its basically the violin."
Don't mind Eddy the recorder player, he's just being himself.
"This would be amazing if on BOTH instruments they had a professional player."
Saw what you did there.
I don't think it was meant as that though lol
The thing is, anybody can make a mistake. I totally cringed when I saw Eddy not-playing the recorder in the original video. I'm a violinist but at one time I took the recorder quite seriously and practiced intently; so that particular TwoSet video offended me, even though I tried to find it funny, in some way. I hate to say it, because I love these guys and what they've done for classical music the world over. But it was cheap shot, and therefore by definition a lapse in judgement. I think they ought to pull it off UA-cam.
@Anushka Dole they're definitely not lmao
Recorder players are supposed to know how to play the entire family.
Percusionists:😑😑
Hey Sarah! Thanks so much for posting this video. I got teased by everyone in my class when I got put into a music specialist class. Teachers put me into the music specialist class but I didn’t once get to play my instrument :( I was put in the singing performance group with other people who played piano. Thanks so much for showing everyone how amazing the recorder can sound when professionally played! I used to play the treble, and sometimes the tenor. It makes me want to buy a treble to play again, thanks so much Sarah!!
The only one TwoSet has not roasted is Ling Ling. They’ve roasted so many instruments, musicians, and composers over the years I think everyone who watches their video knows not to take them seriously.
A year ago Twoset made a video seemingly roasting recorders. But end up praising it, IMO.
Idk if you mean that hurtingly or not, but I very much like twoset and will defend them. If you mean that not hurtfully, then yeah, but they let us know when to take some videos seriously. They are VERY funny and they do make a bunch of serious ones.
lmao yeah i’ve been watching them for about three years now and when it comes to things like roasting people and such i always take it w a grain of salt!!!
Cindy Nguyen yeah but the mainstream, non-musician view of the viola is overwhelmingly positive and respected, while the mainstream, non-musician view of the recorder is the exact opposite due to people being forced to play cheap plastic ones as a kid. The viola is viewed by the masses as professional instrument, and is only joked about amongst classical musicians, while the recorder is the butt end of jokes by everyone.
I get that you’re just joking, but as for the people replying to your comment actually defending what you said, they’re ignorant.
I don't care for them anymore. They went after Lizzo and it was rude.
The thing is that Twoset makes humor and jokes, they aren't talking real about recorders neither violas. I'm a flutist and when they makes piccolo jokes I really enjoy myself 😂 would be great to do this same video but your take, a professional recorder vs violin!
Yeah that would be great. Does Sarah have a violin?
She can't even hold the violin 😂😂😂
Flautist?
That's called having a sense of humour
@Many Del Mal This is true
I love your positive aura! I learnt a bunch of new things about the recorder in a professional environment. I myself "only" play the recorder from what I learnt in the mandatory 2-year childhood recorder lessons, but I always loved it a lot
That's amazing! Your comment that there should be cooperation among professional classical instrumentalists is so valid. I think you & twoset violin would make a really good video together. Twoset seems very humble and would likely use any chance to return the due credits to recorders.
Before TwoSetViolin's video I had no idea what a "recorder" is. Their video was clearly made in a good spirit and for fun, so I didn't get a bad first impression of the instrument. Just a good laugh and some vague interest that made me click on this suggested video. And oh boy, it did make my jaw drop. The variety of sounds this instrument is able to produce... it's just amazing.
Thank you for making this video.
Yeah, I doubt many people formed their opinion of the recorder based on a twoset roast video. They either already had an opinion or they understand that it's just some fun.
Just so you understand recorder gets no skill to produce a sound while even cheapest sideblown flute does, if Eddy tried to pull the same trick with a flute he'd fail miserably. And there's more recorder in music than you imagine, like go play any celtic or something like that medieval game and listen to music, you'd surely hear a recorder here and there.
"Before TwoSetViolin's video I had no idea what a "recorder" is. "
Some here. When I saw their video, I was wondering why they call a flûte, a recorder.
I actually find this channel after this video.
Where are you from that you haven't heard of recorders before? It's taught in primary schools in Canada, the US, many European countries and South-American countries, parts of Asia and Oceania.
I can see that happening... In portuguese, they're called "sweet flute".
the thing is, them playing the recorder badly isn’t a joke on recorders or recorder players, they are making fun of themselves. it’s obvious that they don’t know how to play it, so instead of trying to play it well, they tune their ignorance level to 100% instead. it’s sillier and funnier that way. all in good fun. would love to see them react to your reaction.
loved this reaction video nontheless, utterly impressed by your techniques.
Isabelle Post basically these 2M who are subscribed to TwoSet, know exactly what is the intention behind every video they post. Also you only see the tip of the iceberg. TwoSet posted a video during which they portrayed the beauty of professional recorder players by showing a pro girl playing a piece in such an incredible and aesthetic way and they emphasized on how beautiful it was. TwoSet will always deliver quality content.
I will send the link of the video if I find it.
If they can get triggered by how ignorant Hollywood people playing strings then I don't see any reason why people who play other instruments professionally can't get triggered by their jokes. Just because "it's just a joke lmao" doesn't mean people can't be annoyed by it. jokes are jokes if they're funny. if other people don't think the jokes funny then they're invalid.
@@isabellepost3754 judging a video based on how many people see it is a little strange. If someone were to post a video with a horrific thing being depicted, it doesn't make it less horrific if fewer people see it. The same should go for a video with a good message

Unless of course you were using the fact that the message got to less people to judge the video
Twoset NEEDS to get you on for a colab now, if only so they can own up and get a chance to play with you. You're amazing.
I love they made that video so that I could watch the one you created. OMG did I have a good time and learned A LOT about recorders! This is amazing!
"We can play chords too!"
Proceeds to summon the demons from the 7 rings of hell
As someone who only learned about the recorder in elementary school, this was beautiful, educational, and impressive. Also the "reputation" part was more from an asian parent stand point than in general.
I think it is a pretty accurate depiction of what the general population thinks of recorders. For most people a recorder is a cheap annoying plastic instrument they were forced to learn in elementary school, rather than a broad range of instruments with a lot of potential and versatility. They've also become kind of a meme, which doesn't help.
=]] as an Asian I can gurantee you that In Asia it can be applied to any classical instrument including the Violin
Nah lol the reputation thing is true everywhere 🤣
I’m actually blown away at your talent! How amazing some of these techniques I never even dreamed possible! You’re amazing
So much fun to watch you and your recorders - on all of your videos.
I came here nervous and expecting her to throw shade but she is quite lovely and this is actually very good and educational video
Lovely? Check this out 11:18 being salty and all because of the joke? Such a boomers. I love her knowledge, skills and all but this video will be the one to truly ruin recorders reputation
Xanderson Epic ...
@@xandersonepic she made a valid point tho.
Supposing I made an X vs Y competition without knowing the details and nuances of Y and trashes on it for the sake of 'comedy'(which if said comedy was satire, I'd understand but let's be real twoset isn't satiring anything), it wouldn't be fair for Y.
The basic premise of twoset's comparison videos is that they portray one(the violin and/or classical part) in the correct light and the other part in a dishonest and/or willfully ignorant manner, which if you find it funny more power to you that's your thing and it's fine(i guess) but if people decides to call them out on it i think they are well within their rights to do so.
@@xandersonepic Ok.
Wanna get louder
Violin: use more than one string
Recorder: use different fingering
Piano: just hit harder!
Organist: pull all the stops out! We'll shake the building with the 32s
@@TheNighthorn Good one!
Harpsichord: what is this loud you speak of?
Sebastian Nugroho you don’t use more than one string to get louder on a string instrument-
This sincerely made me laugh!
First and best roast I have seen on two set. I m sure those guys will appreciate it, with all this talent and good arguments backing it up. Please collaborate!
I love your videos, I play various folk flutes, most Native American Flute, Tin Whistle and some Ocarina but getting more into Recorder lately, and the complexities you know astound me. I also used to perform at Renaissance Festivals and have many Musician friends that play early music and you still share new methods and techniques even they never mentioned! I have never seen that style of glissando you did on the Recorder! 👏😊
beginner tone: violin
beginner tone: recorder
"alright thats true"
That bit was nailed on both perfectly lmao
I think two set fans know most of alllll of their stuff is a joke. They hate on violas a looot but have proven it’s just a joke but talking seriously about them before and playing with professional viola players on their Channel. The same goes with recorders, in fact I think they are intriguing more people to look at recorders from that video instead of getting people to “hate” them so don’t take it to seriously, and I’m sure you don’t. 👍Great video love it a lot!
L. S. it’s only because they play the violin XD
Yesss! This is kinda reverse psychology
Yesss! This is kinda reverse psychology
Brett plays the viola in his university days. He mentions it during one of the Q&A ...
Great video! I really enjoyed it! You turned THIS flutist into a fan and a subscriber! Best wishes! 😎👍
I'm new to this channel and our 9-year old recently started with the recorder and I also purchased a recorder as well to show my support. The way you handled this particular response is simply amazing and I commend you on the way you handled.
Twoset: **disses recorders**
Sarah: Finally! A worthy opponent!
Our battle will be legendary!
I don't think she deemed them worthy because they don't play recorder, or didn't have someone who could play on.
It was all in good fun really. The video was so memey it's crazy how some people would find it offensive or take it serious
The whole professional musician community is very nice and friendly, I’m sure twoset isn’t afraid to take criticism
Ofc they not, they're chill guys
@@Nezumi99 also they joke a lot so- i don't get the heat lmao
You are incredible :o !!
You made me learn sooooooo much about recorders, it's amazing to hear everything that it can do !
Loved the way you handled this and how amazing the techniques you showed sounded on the recorder and it's bigger/smaller siblings Subscribed !
This is gonna be INTERESTING
HMMM... INTERESTING!
and here we go again...
INTERESTING!
When she mentions the whole Violin family except for Viola
Twosetters: OHHHHHHHHHHHHH 😎👿👿👿
The glissando and the other alternative techniques really caught me by surprise! Great to see how this often overlooked instrument has found such a heartwarming, professional ambassadress.
Thanks for this great video! I have learned so much!
I am a violinist and I love TwoSet, but I really, really enjoyed your response. What a great way to look at what they do and I would love to see them respond to your response. I do think they were just trying to be funny, much like how they always give the viola players a hard time, but I agree with you, they should consider some of the ramifications. Great job! You gave me a much deeper appreciation for the "simple" recorder.
Genuinely didn’t know professional recorders playing is a thing
Go listen to for instance, Michala Petri on UA-cam.
Have you ever heard of Brandenburg Concertos No 2 and 4? Both are written for recorders.
Honestly me too
Clive Goodman In addition, almost every piece written for the “flute” during the Renaissance and Baroque was actually for the recorder, since that was considered the default kind of flute, and the traverse flute an aberration (even though it came earlier)
Claire Lee... ?
Reacts maturely and accurately while both defending the recorders with confidence?? oH WE DEFINITELY STAN! (new subscriber here)
As a violinist, I completely approve of your video! Great work, and keep it up!
Just saying I legit had no idea a professional recorder player existed, but there's a lot involved. Mad props.
Now.. TwoSet should really SEE THIS!!
I hope someone share this at subreddit.
Thx Sarah for the response to tt video.
May your channel reach millions.
They should react to the reaction video (and the cycle would never end) hahaha
Maybe make a "Beginner vs. Professional" collaboration instead ;)
You are AMAZING! Subscribed!
Omg, i just found this channel because of Twoset! I didn't even know any recorder related channel existed. This recorder community, wow! And simply just yay, i'm not alone! :D I'm just soo glad and happy now! Love you guys!!
A 10+ years recorder player from Hungary
Never thought I'd see the day when Twoset gets roasted :P
MusicMike512 HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHA bring back #RoastTwoSet hashtag HAHAHAHA
As well as me
Me, playing both a recorder and a violin: Please Mom, Dad, don't fight!
I loved your video! Impressed by your talent and the amazing world or recorders, and laughed a lot! Keep it up!
I'm a drummer and I can't stop watching ur videos. You have shown me many things I had no idea about the recorder world. And this video shows the range and versatility of recorders and those who play it. Thank you!
As a TwoSetter I know when they bash an instrument like this it’s always in good fun. They never mean any offense in anyway. Need proof? Look at their first Recorder video
THANK YOU! someone with some common sense!
the title is The BEST instrument in the World.....
I'm still glad Sarah made this video though 😁 I follow both
But the thing is that, TwoSet latest Recorder video has the potential to be very misleading...since the majority of the population already has that stereotype towards the Recorder...they might not know that TwoSet is just joking around.
Min Yeo exactly! Same to viola. They bully and earn likes.
Me, a pianist: Even recorders can vibrato *cries*
Yoy YTP ah yes but we can play 6, 7 or 8 notes at once! And you can always pretend you are doing vibrato.
Naturalmente, Signor Salieri! 😉
We can play vibrato if we flap the lid fast enough
Clemens Kindermann I wonder why every classical music video I go to and comment, someone always notices that my profile pic is Salieri lmao
Matt ‘Meg’ Jackson Yes of course, that's one thing we pianists can do better than other instruments: CHORDS!
You are great, so talented and with a sense of humor. I love you!!!
I loved your video, definitely a thumbs up!, Good Job!
