How expensive must a guitar be before it is no longer a player?
I absolutely love it! When Will you do that Scotty Moore signature GIBSON??
A beautiful example of what Gibson can do.
The factory stinger is very appropriate.
Hybrid Picking, very nice Austin.
Love the tone of this 350T, it's no wonder they were so popular.
I believe part of the reason it takes so long to fulfill this batch/build would be the difficulty in finding such large pieces of flamed maple.
The top/back of this guitar are a single large piece and not as common as the smaller pieces of maple used for a book matched 2-Piece Les Paul top.
Would be nice to hear it through an amp that Chuck Berry might have actually used ? Narrow panel Dual Professional??
It's not every day we get to see Trogly's incredible dance moves. What a time to be alive!
🤣
He actually recorded an Instructional Dance video in the 80s,"Yo! Rap Dance w/ Trogly"
But this is an all new direction.
I concur!
I heard he hired a choreographer just for this video
you should see him on a pole
"This isn't meant for a player" is one of those things in the guitar industry that doesn't really ring me a bell
I know kinda outdated, but yeah that't the thing, i don't understand that statement either. If you're buying an instrument, you're gonna play it, instrument is meant to be played, no matter if this is a 100$ guitar or a 10000$ guitar, it's meant to be played. Spending 10$k on a piece that you'd just leave in a case is.. meh, right?
I would play it
If ya don't know who Chuck is.. is like a Classical Pianist who's never heard of Beethoven
Roll Over....
I thought Beethoven played the violin..👍
Hes the guy that liked to record people using the bathroom, also he sang a song or something
@@InfiniteRhombus what?
@@devlintaylor9520 chuck barry got off by watching people use the bathroom, he filmed his employees and kids doing it, he was arrested for it in the late 90s
When I was fourteen I met Chuck Berry. He was really nice to me. When I heard Gibson was doing a signature guitar I knew I'd never own it. Just too dammed expensive. Oh well,at least I met the man himself. That's priceless.
Johnny B. Goode was one of the first guitar riffs I learned to play on guitar and it’s one of my favourite songs to play. I’ve actually never seen a 350T up close like this and I gotta say it looks really beautiful and sounds great too
This guitar deserves a top notch, carefully set up tube amp, that's for sure.
@@guitarocd9984 Yeah, that song was also one that made me want to play guitar in the first place. Definitely some groundbreaking skills for the time (mid/late 1950s)
Was about to say when you were saying "you've probably heard him around Christmas and didn't know" that everyone who has watched back to the future has heard him weather they knew it or not
I can't imagine anyone watches a guitar channel like this and doesn't know who Chuck Berry is.
He's the father of rock guitar.
“Chuck! Chuck! It’s Marvin. Marvin Berry. You know that new sound you’re looking for? Well listen to this!”
I hear Glarry is coming out with the Marvin Berry signature guitar for 2021
Lol
lol
wasn't he in a band with norman einstein?
The Dangle Berry , great sustain
Chuck Berry the man of rock n roll, the original player.
Remember when he got busted for having cameras in the women's bathroom in his restaurant
Honestly some of the original licks he plays are pretty sick, even for someone who is more so a dealer than a player
Even though it seems Trogly is rarely playing to improve, he does play every day (perhaps without fail). Not only that but he plays all different types of guitars - i think he has some hidden chops!
remember he is not trying to show his skill but the guitar's character
Played one of the original P-90 ones for a night back in 1967-- heavenly!
Did we just witness the "Trog Shuffle"? Love it!!
dancing with a 10k guitar without strap: trogly is a very brave man
Absolutely! That's an insane guitar. It seeks to be a perfect blend of wood and tone. It's worth the price tag. It's a monster! The range is amazing. Lucky you. I'd play it till it fell apart. That's a players guitar and the history behind it, awesome. I hope you can keep it, pass this one to your kids.
His final album is worth purchasing. This guitar is beautiful. A true Berry-esque player needs to get this. I'd rock it. Dear buyer, please don't display it. Please play it. Let it live!
It's not Chuck's hit songs, he wrote the book on how to play rock'n'roll rhythm.
He copied T-bone Walker
downpicking beast
@@alfsmith4936 ...and Ike Turner, Hubert Sumlin, Louis Jordain and Johnny Johnson to develop that style of rhythm playing which became the backbone of modern guitar.
@@tedgay8427 In every interview I have seen , he credits growing up listening to country music. That's all his parents played on the radio.
Check out Sister Rosetta Tharp; she was knockin' it out the park before Chuck was in long trousers.
All I want for Christmas is a Rock n Roll electric guitar.
Quite easily the greatest line in Chuck Berry's entire catalog
I wonder if that line had any effect on guitar sales at the holidays in 1959, when he released that tune
@@litleguy123 then again, consider the fact that NAMM is always the month *after* Christmas.
Beautiful woods used on that....and I think the P90's are perfect for that "Chuck Berry style". Great sound, great looks.
I played an original 350T a while back, the dual humbucker version - Lovely guitar!
When Gibson uses black-as-midnight ebony fretboard...the whole neck, especially with binding and fancy inlays...it looks just so high class. Honestly, the neck matches the body for high class.
Once again, Gibson didn't disappoint.
@@julosx , for what they cost, they should be good, right?
I love how we get to vote for the guitar you focus on for the video. Really cool and unique way to connect to your viewers
Beautiful! 1st concert I attended (when I was 16) was Chuck Berry in 1975 at a local amusement park. The opening acts were various girl groups from the '50s. While they were on I wandered around the park and spotted Chuck Berry sitting by himself on a bench smoking a cigarette. When I asked for an autograph he said "Maybe later kid, I'm trying to relax right now", lol. This was back when he was using local pickup bands for his backing band. He travelled light in those days and used to check his guitar as luggage as documented in the "Hail, Hail Rock & Roll" movie when flying to gigs. Still put on a heck of a show. Because I'm old it amazes me you need to tell guys watching a guitar channel who Chuck Berry is.
as a st louis native and someone who has been fortunate enough to see chuck berry play live at blueberry hill the guy is a legend. I wish I could afford/justify owning a guitar like this.
I think this is possibly the most Beautiful thing I have ever laid Eyes on .
The guitar is nice too
@@astrohartley1439 ....hahahahaha
I just got a 1198 Washburn 35 HB in flamed maple natural/w upgraded Seymour Duncan Andrew Emerson wiring harness in the mail today for $500 and it is mint. Double cut away
Ive looked at this guitar on Gibson's website many of times. Thanks for the video. Chuck Berry is a guitar legend, I seen him on tv when I was like 5, and knew I had to get a guitar.
I’ve been waiting for so long. It’s a good day.
Your playing is definitely improving and you inspire me to play more. Thanks Trogly
Look at Trogly, bustin' out some classic jams tonight. Rock on brother!
Right on time!
And I just sealed the deal on a DS1 and a MetalZone for 70 bucks :D
On the topic of humbuckers you could likely rig up something with mini buckers! :)
Wow! and it's my birthday guitar!
I hope more of these find their way to pro guitarists. That's a damn rock machine and it's a bit of a shame to see it sit in a collection. Thanks trogly! I'll have to maybe look into an epi P90 arch! hot dang!
Thank you.
I don't know of many archtop reviews being done. They are my favorite.
Yes, I would rock this!
Chuck Berry! That guitar sounds bloody fantastic...thanx for giving us all the opputunity to view this wonderful guitar..
Trog, great choice in guitar to get. I'm a big Chuck Berry an and love ES-350Ts, Gibson hollows with P90s. I also saw Chuck Berry in concert with Little Richard in 2003. Big fan. Also "Maybellene" is my fave Berry song, I agree with you it's a great song.
This has the be the funniest Trogly episode yet, love it!
Those overdrive tones are absolutely awesome. Never mind the beautiful woods. Great guitar. I am now a fan of this model.
Loved the Blue Oyster Cult thrown in there! Cities on fire with rock and roll,
Yo great stuff man! Love the CB 350.
I had one of the late 70's guitars. Just loved it! It did have more binding including 3 ply on the headstock which was very impressive. In keeping with the quality issues of the time it was missing a shim in the neck pickup which made it microphonic. I ended up selling it to a buddy in Australia who still rock it!
Great video, as usual! LOVED the BOC riffing at 24:10!!! Cities on Flame!!!
Gorgeous guitar. I grew up listening to Chuck Berry.
Gorgeous guitar with that top and back, WOW!!!
You'd think Gibson could do some flame on sides as well.
I was very happy when you stated that you loved this guitar. I think we all would.
I’m a daily watcher but after the duck walk I’m a fan for life!
As a guitarist who has copped every Chuck berry stage move possible, you are SO right about being a good cardio workout 🏋️♂️. If you do the duck walk guitar solo for 16 bars and come back to sing that third verse if you are not totally out of breath then you are a guitar super hero. 100% truth. Dude had to be in stellar shape to do this throughout his more than half a century career.
Can you do a review of the John Lee Hooker Epiphone Zephyr that came out a couple of years ago??
You can read my extensive review at Reverb.
Definitely worthy of Trogly's attention. It is one of the very few modern Epiphones that appreciated immediately and meteorically.
Essentially pre sold and only 1000 made. Two years later they have appreciated 33%.
AMAZING guitar for the money.
Trogly! Try one!
@Hugh G. Rection Well Hugh I make and design guitars.
Not everyone can afford a Gibson arch top or an Ametican made Epihone for that matter.
Should they just not play?
@@seanwoodburn2616 👍
@@seanwoodburn2616 I'm gigin' with a put together squier.. working fine for me.. into a great amp
@@paulgentile1024 Words of wisdom from a GIGGING musician!
I bought the Walmart best choice 335 clone and it's a nice fire wood guitar. Lol, you live and learn. 😁
Cites in flame with rock n roll! Love that flame neck w/ stinger beautiful guitar nice review and demo Trogly.
That is a smokin guitar. If I ever hit the lottery that would be one of the axes that I would buy. Great video!
Might be the nicest guitar I've ever seen.chuck would be proud
He's more famous for the 335 and 345 of course but most of the hits were recorded with the 350t. Super cool guitar, now get a 295 Scotty Moore model.
I've always wanted a es-295.
I do have one of those!
An me, give my left bollock for one
@@unclefoiley819 My favourites ES-295s are the '93 reissue like the one Frank Black use to own during the late Pixies history.
OMG this is the best tone you have ever had!!!!! Lovely!!!!!
I've been waiting for this review ever since this guitar was announced. I have not found a single video online anywhere of anyone playing this guitar
If people today have never heard of Chuck Berry then I am officially too old.
I saw him at myrtle beach around 78 or 79 he was staying at the holiday inn so I guess I'm getting up in age myself. He kind of stood out on the beach with about 6 girls laying in there lounge chairs all around him .
That guitar is pure class, I really dig it. I hope Sir Berry would have approved before his passing.
I like it how he can actually play the thing and not just having loads of them
Trogly that beauty deserved to be plugged into a tube amp! Love your channel, thanks for sharing your passion with the world.
So, there are 55 new, great playing guitars in the world that will hardly, if ever, get played and just hang on a wall or sit in a hermetically sealed closet. That makes me sad...
good point and part and parcel of guitar inflation..... i confess tho i have a soft spot for chuck
Yes, and owned by people who are sorry ass players
Thats exactly what i said! There made to be played!
That looks fantastic
What a great video. Come to think of it, all of your videos are great. Can’t wait for the next one!
man, this guitar looks and sounds incredible
Congratulations, Trogly! That's a beauty!
Gray review. I have a 1974 Byrdland and it's my favorite guitar in my collection. I live it's short scale, solid woods and ridiculous 5 piece flamed neck. I'm glad these fly under the radar. The same level of ornament as an L5 for 1/2 the price.
Very cool guitar, thanks for doing this man 🤙
I enjoy all of your feeds and watch them daily, great show.
Can't wait for the official Trogly Gibson guitar. It's only a matter of time at this point.
Congrats on your new guitar!
This is definitely one of those "If I won the lottery" guitars. It would be player for me and, not just a wall hanger. A real beauty. Thanks for documenting it.
Thanks for the metric neck measurements and the dashing dance moves my dude
I like aged stuff and I watch your stuff all the time. Great review. I like the hybrid picking bit. Looks very relaxed.
Sounds beautiful!
I love this guitar. Maybe one day I can afford to own one. An all time favorite guitar and sound. Classic
perhaps the huge delay had to do with the move of the archtop division from memphis to nashville?
Trogly!!
Amazing guitar.
Surprised you did not comment on the relationship of the ES350-T and the Byrdland. Note the tailpiece and scale length. The 350 is an all maple Byrdland...which of course is an L5-T with a short scale.
The short scale by the way is why it shipped with .011's.
.010's are noticeably floppy.
Garland and Byrd specified the short scale to facilitate extended chord voicings. I have a 350 and Byrdland and love them for this but as you commented, upper note access suffers.
One other fun detail, thin they are but they are just a tad thicker than the other Gibson thin lines by about .125".
You made it sound great by the way!
Cheers!
That middle position is face-meltingly beautiful. Obviously the individual pickups each sound great too, and kinda unique--I guess with the extra short scale. But maybe it's the pickups being closer together than usual that makes that middle position sound sweeter than ever. Whatever it is, it makes me wish I were a millionaire. Or even a multi-thousand-aire. I'd cherish this thing for the rest of my life.
Thanks Trogly ,Chuck Berry seems to have two main influences .Carl Hogan, and T bone Walker.Chuck got his intro lick to "Johnny B Goode",from Carl Hogan's intro on Louis Jordan,' s "Just Like A Woman". Chuck Berry used T bone derivatives for soloing. The Native style bolo,is a nod to Chuck Berry's Native American lineage, he was Cherokee.
What an absolutely Gorgeous Guitar! Even more important, it sounds Fantastic!
I wish I had the funds for one of these, I love Chuck ..I have very fond memories of riding down the road with my Dad in his old Nova blasting some Chuck Berry. Beautiful guitar and strangely enough I think my favorite part is the neck (well besides the actual tone of the guitar). That guitar is a true American beauty. I would love to see his 345, 355, etc. Maybe do a special run for collectors in the same vein of the recent Hendrix set they did . Chucks guitars are so cool and he is such an important figure in music (every bit as much so as Hendrix) that it would be a sin not to. I thought the woodgrain on the back looked like PePe the meme frog. As Tim & Eric say.... Great Job!
Now that's a very beautiful Gibson Trogly.
If you haven't heard of Chuck Berry...oh my.
Thanks for another fantastic review
I really really like the way she sounds. Very nice instrument.
Chuck Loved T-Bone Walker and he had his own model ES 5 with 3 dog ear P90s with 3 in-a-row knobs! So Chuck was going after the T-Bone “look”…Chuck was famous for the bolo!! Good “ duck walk”!…( thanks for the “ Cities On Flame (with Rock &Roll)”
Trogly's in the HOUSE!!!
No. Homeless
🤟
You made Chuck proud with that playin!
Trog,
that distorted tone was incredible. You reall sound best on semi hollow body guitars..
It’s not every day you see a guitar like this. Also Chuck Berry Jr. mentioned you on Facebook on Chuck Berrys official page which is awesome.
With distortion it gives those Malcom Young vibes in the bridge position
I love how he did Stranglehold at the end!
Ayyyy, within the half hour. New record. Once again, greetings from Utah!
Wow whiplash obtained via the contrast with the video - going from Glarry in the last video to this.
your moves are smooth johny
That P90 growl! Nothing better!👍👍👍✌
Chuck Berry was known for his duck walk while playing g some killer notes. As well as his other antics. He performed these well up in age.
@@mubodude regardless he did.
P90s and hollow body, just something about the combination, love my Epiphone Riviera P93.
Wow, Austin! That's awesome! 🎭
what a beauty, Chuck had great taste for sure
Guitar sounds amazing
I love the aging personally, but… I didn’t Always love it. I once went to Gibson mandolin “factory” in the Opryland Mall in Nashville back in 2006 & they’d had a bunch of “reliced” guitars & mandolins on the back wall of the wood working area & back then I just didn’t get it & thought it was ridiculous. I was 26 back in 2006 & now that I’m 41 I actually do appreciate the factory aging, especially the Murphy Lab. Which I got to see A LOT of at the Gibson Garage & the 1958 Les Paul Standard looked like a no-s**t 58 Standard perfectly aged over the 63 years, it was incredible. I loved it.
The only Autograph I own, met him while working at Ameristar Casino in St Charles Mo
Super nice dude
I don’t mind aged guitars if they’re done well, Gibson just DO NOT do them well, that last jimi Hendrix custom shop you had was god awful, if I paid that much for a guitar and it looked like that I would be raging
Totally agree! That horrible finish checking that looked like gashes in the paintwork? Gives me nightmares to this day...
I agree. Pretty atrocious. Although the knots on the back of the neck in this guitar review would’ve ticked me off too. 10k for knots? That lumber should be flawless. I understand woods’ natural characteristics. But 10k, it better not have knots.
Truly a beautiful guitar. that's the guitar Michael J. Fox should've been playing in the original Back To The Future movie (since it was set in 1955), but Norm Harris (Norm's Rare Guitars) rented the ES-345 to the movie's producers, because they felt that the look of the ES-345 guitar identified more with Chuck Berry, even though Norm told them that the ES-350T would be more "period correct".
Oh sweet! Probably the finest Gibson I've seen on this show. Still doesnt hold a candle to special edition 6120s and Annies (carved top, gold leaf, flames of hell,3ply binding, etc.) but for Gibson, I'd call it a 10k guitar had they used a carved top/back. You're right ,the knots on the neck make it a bit less. Stingers (not a stinger except in carve,) its a back strap, a luthiers way of keeping the headstock from cracking off the way Gibsons do when dropped .Looks slick anyway IMHO. These particular p90s sound spot on,(back off the grind just a bit and turn up the reverb)
