- Several downtown Denver business owners say that if the "inescapable problem" of homelessness doesn't improve soon, they won't have much of a choice but to close their doors for good.

I left Denver last year after 12 years there. It has been such a weight off my shoulders. No longer do I have to worry about my safety on a day to day basis. Get out while you still can. The rest of the country isn't nearly this bad.
I was in downtown Denver a couple of days ago while on my routes and there were encampments everywhere. Some took up the entire block. High end multi family structures throughout with large tent camps lining the streets beside them. Trash, tents, drugs and alcohol abuse everywhere. Very sad.

i was amazed visiting Denver from Boston at the level of sketchy people and homeless camps, definitely killed my view of what Denver was gonna be like. Colorado however was beautiful but holy hell expensive.
I saw the exact same thing too! Downtown 16th Street Mall looks much worse than any 3rd world country. SO EMBARRASSING to even walk around downtown Denver! I was HORRIFIED!
You could film the walking dead there without a permit. ALL of the ground level retail in downtown has the windows covered in newspaper. Blocks and blocks in a row with zero existing businesses. And no new ones are coming until they clean this up.
Mayor Johnston is a failure. His campaign to house a certain number of people by a certain date is such a losing, desperate attempt to make himself shine. Those shelters are breeding grounds for drugs, disease, theft...oh and now murder. He wants so badly to make a name for himself. I have a name for him but I will keep that to myself. Denver has become an absolute shithole since the riots of 2020. The 16th Street Mall, once a place to shop and dine, is a flippin' dangerous dump.
Hey Mayor...why don't you and your trusty boy Cole stop trying to grab the spotlight and actually do something positive for the good hard-working people of Denver. Stop the soft on crime nonsense. I just visit the cigar bar in Denver from time to time and I am always disgusted by the human feces and urine on the sidewalk. Denver was a fantastic city about 15 years ago but now it’s a nothing but homeless camps and shit on the street. Nasty

Every American deserves a place to call their own even if it’s just a room in a house or even a partitioned off piece of a room. Jesus Christ…I have had horses and dogs I’ve treated better than people get treated in this country; that is, they have a stall or a crate and that’s their place to go to feel safe.

The news is trying to make a story out of nothing. The people of Denver will take care of any and all people who need assistance. It's heart warming.
What the Denver mayor doesn't realize is that if you provide free housing, food, medical, and let homeless camp freely they will be coming here from Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles because they are cracking down on it right now.

It's time for them to start cracking down on this. What happened to the illegal camping bans? The mayors offices in all the cities and the goveners office needs to figure this out. They all also need to figure out the inflation thing before they start loosing people big time because it's too expensive rent wise. I get all the time oh you work for a hospital!? Yeah I don't make the $40-$50/hr the nurses make I'm a peon living paychech to paycheck just to cover rent which is more than 30% of my income. Between my two checks I bring home $2,600 and rent is $2,200 of that. Leaves me with $400 for transportation and food. I'm starting to think about where is going to be the cheapest for me to retire too. That's another 8 years if I work until 70.

I went to a concert at Red Rocks a few months ago and we decided to go to Denver for lunch and drinks. We ate and got the hell put of there. The city was filthy, from the car to the restaurant we saw 2 guys pissing and 1 guy arguing with himself. The “normal” people were rude as hell. Must be a miserable place to be. Morrison and Golden were awesome.
I heard once that the reason big cities have homeless problems like this, is because the homeless themselves refuse to follow rules at shelters and recovery centers, and get kicked out a lot. Add to this any city that has decriminalized hard drugs, and you have an underbelly of double standards mixed up with people waaay too altered by said drugs to give permission or consent for treatment....the very same people college-aged "advocates" say we should hear the stories of and get to know.

😢 I’m about to be homeless I worked my whole life and lost everything over night due to illness. I will not burden my children or friends and I have no family other then my children. Not all homeless are drug addicts or drinks a lot have mental issues and some are waiting SSI or SSDI eligibility and living in their cars.
I feel ya, been there. Best thing is to learn skills and invest what little you have into camping equipment and skills. If you can respond to a video, you have an ability to produce something others can pay for. Try to keep a vehicle or a storage unit so you can have a change of clothes and not look destitute as how we present ourselves matters. Look for the government programs that offer free internet, free phones, ect. Maybe use your homeless time to document exactly how others live, but don't stay in the city or the influence will drag you down. Stop paying medical bills, you can have them dismissed as part of declaring bankruptcy. Get ahead of this before depression swallows you whole.

Two things: 1) Vagrants should not be blocking the entrances to businesses, and 2) Vagrants should not be blocking wheelchair ramps. In fact, a number of unhoused people depend on wheelchairs to get around.
If they are in a wheelchair, they are disabled. If they are disabled they can get social security and section 8 housing. If they are unhoused, they are responsible for that choice.

We got out of Denver after seeing the writing on the wall back in 2017. We live in Parker for 5 years and left CO when it was obvious that Governor Polesmoker wanted to make all of Colorado into Denver.
26 of them may have been removed from the street and now have housing but you still have 20,000 more to go

family dentist had his office there...The last time that I went there I could barely see the side walks...They were covered with old dirty clothes, trash and other kinds of refuse ...I don't see
