    • Building A Lamborghini...
    As the title says, here's an introduction to our latest interesting project - restoring an abandoned Lamborghini Countach and fitting a JDM Toyota 1GZ-FE engine inside (5L V12 from a 1997 Toyota Century) - mated to an Audi 0A2 transaxle.
    Before we get too far ahead, lets be obvious for those who didn't read the title - this is a replica Countach. Lamborghini purists would have a heart attack seeing a Toyota engine in a genuine Countach supercar. This isn't a stretched Pontiac Fiero or Toyota MR2 either, research has suggested this is an early Prova / Mirage Countach kit - full tube chassis with a virtually identical mold of a real Countach. Therefore, it looks pretty near identical to the real deal.
    There is a lot to redo on this car (like the entire interior), but it'll certainly be a one of one when done - a JDM / Euro Countach hybrid of sorts.
    *engine is Ford, not Chev.
    Filmed in 4k on a mixture of GoPro 9 and Canon EOS R.

    Dreams really do come true :D I was hoping someone would drop a 1GZ into a Countach replica.

      Lol thanks. I've been out of the country for a while, but will be back in the next week or two - will start documenting this again then.

    I always thought it’d be better to build a countach replica and put my own v12 in it. Values for the real thing keep rising and they just keep getting less fun, as a result.

      Absolutely agreed. This way you can make it however you want, and not feel "bad" about enjoying it.

      Agreed, I doubt Toyota would have ever expected to see it in something like this.
      There's a new (and better) gearbox on the way as well. Aiming to do a much more in-depth walkaround / breakdown in the next week or two.

    This body and frame looks decent!

    • @GarethBargate
      @GarethBargate  6 місяців тому +2

      Thanks. Yeah, the body mold is from a genuine Countach, and a full custom tube chassis to support it - not based on another car like a MR2, Fiero etc. So the proportions are pretty good.

      @@GarethBargatewhen’s the next video coming? Are you going to do a stock motor or build it? Would love a deep dive into the motor such a weight and other dimensions. Would be cool to compare that Vs other motors. Are you going to run a Pdk trans? Is the chassis custom?

    • @GarethBargate
      @GarethBargate  6 місяців тому +1

      Just waiting for a few more parts, then thinking of doing a more "in-depth" walkaround type of video. But to answer your questions:
      - Stock motor (for now, just a mild refresh), but will obviously have a custom exhaust
      - Trans is a traditional 5 speed manual
      - Chassis is custom. They were built specifically for these bodies.

    The old motor is actually a Ford small block 302 with the distributor in the front by the alt pulley, etc. not chev 350. The V12 Toyota - very cool!

    • @GarethBargate
      @GarethBargate  Місяць тому +2

      Yeah that was my mistake, only once it was removed and had a closer look we saw the Ford stampings and 302 etc. But agree, the V12 is better.

      @@GarethBargate Stock cams will be of high quality material so maybe a good candidate for a re-grind to wake up the V12 a bit. I would keep it NA. Good power to weight and killer V12 sound!

    • @GarethBargate
      @GarethBargate  Місяць тому +1

      Absolutely, we're going to keep it N/A. If we can get it up to the 350 / 400 range that'll be enough - this car doesn't weigh much either.

      @@randyderksen4358yeah it will be awesome 😍 do regrinds make more power 🤔 I thought regrind was just to fix surface finish defects.
      A power cam is typically bigger than a stock cam so that the lobes are larger and hold the valves open for a longer duration.
      Loving this project 👍
      I just started my v12 build 😎

    • @randyderksen4358
      @randyderksen4358 Місяць тому

      @@UKBUILT Yes, this is an interesting one with the fantastic Toyota V12! I have had my stock cams reground both on Sohc and Dohc motors and there is definately more power to be had as the process starts by reducing the base circle on the cams and thereby allowing some useful material to create different lobe profiles. Today people like me have become suspicious of new cam "material" which all too often I hear is no where near the quality of the old Japanese cam metals, so we find a reputable machinist to regrind the original. The process has to be done right or the original heat treatment on the lobes will be damaged. Hope that helps.

      Thanks for the subscribe - I've actually filmed two more videos for this, which are far more in-depth... just need to edit them. Camera is just a GoPro Hero 9, filmed in 4k. I have a Canon EOS R which I've used a bit more in the next videos.

      Lol, dash gauges have already been scrapped. I think they're visible in the pile of parts in the second video lying somewhere next to the engine.

      @GarethBargate I understand, I'm part of the groups so I've seen how long these projects can take and how so many get sold halfway done for many reasons. I'm surprised it took this long for someone to try a 1gz so I'm rooting for you.

    Hi are there any legal issues with building a replica supercar in South Africa? Especially if it to have the real badges on🙈 wanting to do this in forever.

    i could build you an extraordinary V8. Good thing you got the toyota V12, the porsche transaxle is really a mismatch with a chevy V8 's torque and power curves and would break it.

    • @GarethBargate
