teri beeti umar hari naam bina,
Koopa neer bin dhenu chheer bin,
dharti megha bina,

Deha naina bin raina chandra bin

Kaam krodh mada lobha nivaro
chaad de sab sant jana

ya jag main nahi koi apna

Say the holy name the One, o heart of mine,
your life ages away without the name of hari ( the Lord within all)
A well without water, cow without milk,
the earth without rain and clouds,
the tree without fruit,
thus is the being without the name of hari
A body without eyes, night without moon,
temple without lamps
preist without scriptures
thus is the being without the name of hari
Dispel sexuality, anger, arrogance and greed from your life
leave this materialistic world behind like the saints
Gurunaanak says, listen lord of all
in this relative world, there is no one truly mine.

Sumiran or Smiran means to Connect Within.
It also means to remember.
In Punjabi it is simran.
In Gujarati it is smaran.
Here in this famous bhajan-devotional song attributed to Guru Nanak of the Sikh Faith, it is an appeal to come Home to the Lord within. One can not remember God, one can only come Home, and that is the natural state. To recollect or recall anything is an effort. The opportunity Sumiran of the Lord happens for a human being every time he is confronted with an obstruction or adversity in life. Such songs make that appeal very effective.

It is misconception that author of this great & lovely bhajan is Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
But, it is not in Gurbani.
Must be clarified by someone known.
