    Awesome! These are going into my pack! Been watching your videos for sometime and haven't been able to support your channel until yesterday because I never had a UA-cam account, so I made one to do just that! Amazing information. Easy to understand, plain and simple and straight to the point every time! Love'em! Appreciate all the videos. BIG THANKS!

    Dave, I don't know how you do it man. Regardless of what you make a video on, within an hour or two, the Jesus Christ of bushcrafters has blessed you with a comment in which he explains how what you're doing is stupid and that he could do it better and faster. Half the time his/her comment also makes it apparent that they didn't even pay attention to what you were actually saying. Please keep in mind, most of these folks couldn't set up a mouse trap, much less a primitive in hopes of catching game. Anyway, I just find it amusing that you've been so successful, yet so many apparently know so much more. Lol. The internet, it truly is the domain of know-it-all tough guys.

      You NAILED it Ben C. If I don't agree with something on YT I just move on. Why do people waist their time touting how much they know and tell somebody on their own channel how wrong they are when it is just an opinion. If you want to carve the triggers then do it, if you see the benefit in having them in your pack then buy'em. But why drag down somebody with your negative BS. It's so easy to type a few words and trash somebody on their own channel. Get a camera, do your own video, on your channel, presenting your opinion, and proof (if you have it) of how your way is better.

      Yeah, especially if it's not simply adding a different trick & leaving it at that. I ask questions or leave suggestions, but I don't go calling people all kinds of things (unless they call me some stuff first). I think it has to do with arrogance (there's even a book called The Narcissism Epidemic that touches on this). They excite some sense of being better by acting like nothing is good enough for them or just feel like agreement is defeat & approval would be regarded as a damage. When someone brings this up, they flip a U-turn in some way & it seems to mostly be them paying the cost of doing business. Sure, somoene can have an issue with one thing, but not another- but you get what I mean & what they probably won't admit.

I'm not a worker of wood...i craft leather so in a survival situation, these may save my life. Something like this looks to be even "tom-proof!" Those of us that didn't grow up trapping and have no trapping experience can certainly appreciate a design like this because success is built into the design (assuming we set up on active game runs). Thanks a ton for sharing this, Dave!!!

    I was thinking that if you are going to have bait lashed to the device, you might want to have a way to anchor it so another animal doesn't drag the baited DF4 off. A simple hole drilled in it would work.

  • @sticknstonesbrkbones
    @sticknstonesbrkbones 9 років тому

    Dave, I see a problem with that trap. It is not like the regular figure four in that the animal has to push down. It has been my experience that when an animal bites on to something it pulls towards its body, not down. So, my question is, have you field tested this thing? The set up is quick, but I have doubts about its effectiveness due to the design only letting itself be triggered in downward motion. Surely, any animal fiddling with the bait will eventually push down but field tests will be nice to see. Thanks

      Just watched your video on the DF4 trap trigger. If you add a small notch on the inside of the fulcrum bar just above the trigger catch you can use this with a spring snare. Just use a loop in the snare line in place of the usal toggle when the fulcrum moves up the loop slips off nicely

    Since that is what it is, can anyone recommend a better primary use for this, so I have something to tell the DNR officer if he catches me with one in my pack? Not trying to be a jerk here, I'm serious. I want 5 of these things, but where I live, deadfall trapping is flat out illegal. If its "pre-made" it shows intent. I understand that it is for emergency survival, but I still have to have it in my possession. In what states is dead fall trapping legal?

    • @s.f.outdoorsclub7794

      Jamie Hitt It looks pretty easy to DIY. You could prob make one that would clip together, rather than be permanently fastened. Maybe some good quality snaps? I would suspect that they would hold well enough, and they would pivot easily as well.

    • @DaroffApFire
      @DaroffApFire 9 років тому +2

      The DNR has no authority whatsoever to even look through your pack. I think the purpose of these are for real survival situations. If you're out and NEED to get some food, at which point, it isn't illegal. And to be honest, when it really comes down to it, common law states that everyone has the basic human right to catch food in all of it's forms for the purpose of feeding ones self.

    • @JamieHitt
      @JamieHitt 9 років тому

      Daroff Not only do I agree with you, I do so whole heartedly. But, that being said, you are describing my defense in court, not a principle that will prevent me from getting in trouble in the first place. Taking game out of season is poaching. The prosecution could argue that I willfully and knowingly was prepared to do so. And furthermore, anyone that skilled and prepared was planning on obtaining such needed food illegally, rather than bringing the needed amount of food with them. I would have displayed intent long before the survival situation occurred. And Heaven forbid if exhibit "A" was 5 devices who's sole purpose was to set deadfall traps that are illegal both in and out of season. And if the right to feed one's self worked in court, nobody in WV would need to follow any laws regarding poaching, game seasons, or your neighbors beef cattle. The DNR here can do just about anything they want to, my friend, and defending yourself in court can get very, very expensive. They would twist it however they needed to in order to win the case. I would be better off to plead guilty, lose my personal property, pay the fines, take the hits on my hunting license, and be thankful I was rescued. On a lighter note, none of this changes the fact that those are still excellent, light weight trap triggers that would definitely increase your odds of staying alive in a survival situation. I still want my 5, risk be damned.
