I think my cat knows he’s not suppose to be on the counter. When I come home or into the kitchen he quickly jumps down with a guilty look, then runs under the table or out the room. Sometimes I think they are smarter then we give them credit.

This was my problem. The sticky tape was more annoying to me than my cat.

Finally solved the problem in my kitchen. I placed two Scat Mats across the four foot kitchen entry and now they don't even go in the kitchen anymore. You have to use two mats because they'll just jump over a single one. I have my counters back now ... so I can pile miscellaneous crap all over them.
We have a bar. They could jump up there. :/
We did the same thing. The scat mats aren't even on anymore.... basically a placebo after a couple of electric surprises

Tried all this and more. Also set up a little perch for them near the counter and try to use positive reinforcement to attract them to it. It's to no avail. I've never given them food on counter. No-win battle.
When you said they won't know why your disciplining them , I think that's wrong . If my cat jumps on the counter , all I have to do is give them " the look" and they jump right down . They're smarter than ya think. They definitely have a dgaf mentality though it seems cause they still do it when I'm not looking.

I’ve been putting barricades on the counter with boxes and bottles but it’s not pleasant having a messy counter and he still gets up there. I’ve tried using tinfoil but it doesn’t bother him. He’s also yowling in the windows at night and early morning, have a while till the vet appointment.
Double sided tape does nothing to my cats. Neither the citrus repellent. Neither the tin foil.

Why ruin your counter with sticky things? What I used and really worked perfectly is a motionactivated mobile alarm. Very small very effective. You just leave it on the counter whenever you want. Needs just 1-2 successful moments and the cat will not jump up there anymore.

Tried this in the past... all this did was give my problem cat a taste for adhesive. Now it’s a snack any time she can get her stupid little paws on it. Even ripped the tape off a moving box to lay there and lick the adhesive off.

Not true... cats are a gift and my two cats Barney (Barnacle) and Oyster are treasures. I would not part with them for the world. The only time that my cats jump up on the counter is at feeding time when I prepare their food. Good luck! Just clean your counters after they climb on them. I can handle a quick visit from my cats twice a day at mealtime because I love them more than the countertops! Good luck!

My cat is obsessed with the kitchen sink. She jumps up on the counter and goes right to the sink. I try to always keep it empty but she sniffs the sink water. . I don't want her to accidentally ingest dish cleaner. I'm gonna try the sticky tape around the sink
how long do you leave the tape on the counters and how do you remove it? i would hate to work in a kitchen with something sticky grabbing my clothes every time i brush up against it. Does the tape leave sticky residue on the counters thats a lot of effort to remove? My cat jumps to & from mid-counter, he wouldnt even notice it on the edge. Thank you for sharing.

My cats are both sixteen and they’ve both jumped up on counter all there lives which annoys the hell out of me for obvious reasons!.. I’ve tried everything and they look at me and it almost looks like there saying!?.. what ya gonna try next then!?....I’ve now come to the thought process of putting up with it as I have for years. Just come down in the morning and hoover up and clean as always . As I said there both sixteen and there’s gonna come a day when they won’t physically be able to jump up so it is what it is.

The only time food is on the counter is when we just finnished making dinner and when we start eatting dinner they sneak over and jump up. Iv tried sticky tape nothing iv tried spray bottle with water nothing and to day they got shock collars and I heard the beeping so I know they was going off, but not a single fuck was given.....not even a flinch

can sticky paws be used outdoors? I maintain some stray cats and they like to sit on the outdoor window sell and look in the window. they scratch at my soft screens and have put large holes in the soft screens. I participate in the catch and release program to try to cut down on the cat population in the neighborhood
comfortbwp ya it can, but it will loose its effect after awhile from the elements. then you just replace it. shouldnt have to replace it much, they will get the idea
comfortbwp and i would test it in a descrete place first, peeling the tape off might take some of your paint off if its old
Don't waste your money on sticky paws. Indoors or outdoors, it won't work. This video is not unbiased advice. It is a thinly-veiled advertisement for sticky paws.

My nephew is moving in to our house with my Mom and I, and he's bringing his cat, who's name is Rain. I've heard from my nephew Joshua's Mom that Rain has a tendancy to climb upon the counter. "UH OH," I thought! So my first thought was "If that cat gets on our counter, I'm taking a cup of water, pouring it on the cat, and going to lose my shit screaming at the cat to, "GET OFF THE COUNTER NOW! GET OFF THE COUNTER!" Now I realize that's not gonna help. Not gonna help at all." Cause he'll just do it when my Mom, Josh, and I are not around. So screaming at the cat at the top of my lungs which are bad any, ain't gonna help. Well, there goes that idea. We're putting two sided tape down when the cat moves in. I guess I shouldn't scream at the cat.
My kitten is rly annoying. He jumps on the counter all the freaking time! I can't even cook bcs of him. And it's not like my othercats didnt do it but they stopped doing it when they grew up (also they didn't jump on that often). But he is getting really annoying. He steals the food all the time. And he hisses when he eats something good like meat or something like that. None of my cats done that when someone was around them. Maybe bcs I found him on the road side so he is a but feral, but my mom is getting really angry and she said if he doesnt stop doing that we will have to give him away.

I bought my cat from a personal owner and I hate to say this but okay, I think cats that's been breeded by ally momma cats just do ally cat things versus Himalayan cats or more expensive cat breed may be a little more sophisticated..lol. I use to have a Himalayan and a siamese cat and they didnt do that. Not saying this theory is true, just my assumptions..lol

Both if my cats are making me considering rehoming them!!!! Have had them for 11 years and as of late they have been OUT OF CONTROL!!!! Jumping on my kitchen table trying to eat bread etc.... I have not had a decent night's sleep in 5 days!!!! HELP!!!!! One loves to eat plastic and act out when he is "hungry"! The other one just want to eat all the time!! I can't stand how they say to remove food off the counters, do these people work a full time job? where the hell am I supposed to keep my fruit and herbs? what's the point of a counter if you keep it empty? I keep mine empty and he still jumps on the counter. I have managed to train him from not doing a lot of things like not biting or scratching me, eating from his own bowl not his sister's. But he absolutely wont stop jumping on the counters. I'm at my wits end with him, to the point where I've started resenting him.

Can you shut him in another room when you are away? Our cat gets shut in the laundry room when we are out.
@@peterwallis4288 hey, so now our cats are 9 months old. We realised that we needed to close them in another room whilst we are cooking and eating and let them out after we have cleaned so that the smell of food is minimal. It kind of worked. We also kept training them and now although they still get on the counters, they jump on them much less and they get off them after one scold. So yeah, they needed time to mature and we needed the patience to keep at it.
I didn't have any open food on the counter. I sprayed it off with Lysol Kitchen Cleaner to sanitize it. He has been acting strange lately.

Okay! After watching this video I decided I will splurge and get a moderately priced cat tree for my two cats.

My cat knows it shouldn't be on the counter but will continue to do it when I'm not around. As soon as it hears me (and even if I'm far away), it will jump off and either walk away like nothing happened or hide somewhere. I know this because I have cameras in the kitchen.
I've tried everything. Foil, double-sided tape, electric mats. These devices will prevent the cat from jumping on there ONLY when the device is deployed on your counter. The cat will test the counters once in a while to see if the devices are still deployed. This forces one to have to keep the devices out on the counter at all times, which is ridiculous. I don't want to be a slave to my cat. I should be able to have a home free of cat-prevention devices all over the house.
If only my wife would let me rehome this cat...

Some people never correct their kittens (or their kids) and then complain about what a b---h they are to live with. I've never had a cat on a counter. If you have been correcting/rewarding the kitten all along they learn happy human/happy life. Then when they get that twinkle in their eye and you know their planning something tell them FIRMLY and always the same tone ""Don't even think about it."
Never feed them your human food. Never feed them in/near the kitchen or store their treats in the kitchen! Kitchen for humans. Kitchen off limits.

Kerri Peart - It is not animal cruelty at all. The tape doesn't hurt the cat, they just don't like the sticky feeling. Some cats don't even seem to be bothered by it at all. Sticky tape didn't even slow my cat down, let alone change his behavior.

A powerful nerf gun worked well on my kid's cat. A slight concussion, maybe, but I think he's done getting on the table.
There is a wonderful way to actually have a pet and not have to worry about it jumping on your counter.... It's called a DOG! Just get a dog... They can understand you and you don't have to go through all this trouble with sticky tape at all!
