JR East should consider taking this train to service soon. It squeaks a lot. It could also use a change of windscreen wipers, use Rain-X on the windscreen, and consider the use of HID headlights. I like the 'point and execute' system the conductors use to keep their motions and operations 'in-check'. But, what they really need to change (in my opinion) is the 'robot-like' announcements. They sound so mechanical and alien. On the plus side: i like the use of pocket watches by the conductors and, the most pleasant surprise: a lady conductor. Well, this model train being used (the 251 Series) may be retired in the next few years. JR East plans to put the E257 Series train set (now running the _Azusa_ service between Shinjuku Station in Tokyo and (mostly) Matsumoto) on the _Odoriko_ service in addition the new E261 Series train sets that will replace the 251 Series.
