I have an internet monitor thing that used to run on my main Docker server. Now it runs on my ROS device so it can do troubleshooting from the perspective of the router (Can I ping Google? DNS working? Route present? etc. etc.) which saves me a lot of headaches.
Very cool new features to play with and thanks for the easy to follow video! It is nice to be able to run all those services within your low energy router compared to running a full blown server.
I've tried to run home assistant on a rb5009, and it failed to start. Then i tried on a CHR and it worked perfectly, it would be great to be able to run it also on the 5009.
Thank you very much! Now I love my RB4011 even more. The shell feature is a life saver. One question: how do I know the IP address of a given container? There is some kind of implicit DHCP server or something?
Hi dear I worked with mikrotik more than 10 years but when it's come to container,I face with a problem I used CHR and x86 on hpe server with gold CPU and esxi but when I create veth, it dose not run and has no R flag So I will be thankfull if you could guide me with that I used 7.12 router os Thanks
I'm wanting to build an expressVPN container so that I can take advantage of the Lightway protocol. How do I route all of my LAN traffic into the container and out the VPN tunnel ? The available expressVPN dockers don't seem to be able to do that, or I'm not skilled enough at routing in RoS7 to make it work. Would really appreciate a comment back on how this can be achieved !
Don't route all your LAN traffic out the VPN tunnel, only the places you want to reach through the VPN (eg. overseas NetFlix). For that, you can setup some routes in the ROS device. If you think ExpressVPN will do anything for your security or privacy, then you've basically been scammed as it does nothing for either of the two.
@@FinlayDaG33k thank you for the reply ! I understand and thank you for the information regarding privacy. What I am missing is the information on how to route it correctly. I seem to have been able to mangle and mark the traffic correctly but when it enters the container, it doesn't seem to route out of the tun0 interface of the container. Any assistance on how you might achieve what I'm trying to do would be appreciated as it might fill the knowledge gap I appear to have.
Hi sir, how do I remotely zerotier on a container, because I setup it on a container, but I can't remotely this IP and ping mikrotik to zerotier Ips. do I need to new add route and firewall. Please help.
Best regards,. I would like to request a video on how to install zabbix in mikrotik using the container. Since you can't find a video explaining the correct way of installing it It would be great to be able to have that detailed video as well please Thank you for the very good job you do, MikroTik has helped worldwide to revolutionize the Internet 👌📡🙌
I've build a container of an application we would like to deploy on Mikrotik routers. This container is built on top of alpine arm64, and run correctly using emulation in Docker Windows desktop software. However, this container fails to extract on a RB5009 with nothing more than "failed to extract", then "was unable to import..." in the log. How can I troubleshoot details of what goes wrong, or eventually get a support contact? Tried on ROS 7.5 and 7.6rc2.
How are we supposed to create containers if ROS v7 cannot detect microsd cards on tile devices 😨 Not sure if the team is aware but there are a lot of complaints about this on the forum.
you can't run containers on TILE, because there is no software you could run there. Generic linux software exists for ARM or X86. There is no PiHole made for TILE arch. This is why TILE has no container support.
@@mikrotik thanks for the clarification. I missed that. But what about expanding memory for logs and the dude? 🙁 Dude is my eye over the network 👁️ The same SD card works when plugged hanging from the USB port but not inside the card reader 😕 I know I probably should get the better arm64 router but still...
Everything was going to be great. But too many details are omitted. As a result, it is difficult to complete without a foundation. Because of the design to docker knowledge. So more detailed steps are needed. This will be a very teaching material. Even beginners can install it successfully.
Containers are far lighter than a VM due to the way they operate. Also, there is no real "reinvention of the wheel", it's just taking the invention of the wheel and adapting it to the MikroTik ecosystem.
Can we invoke from within container some executables/tools from host RouterOS? kinda OpenVPN, WireGurad, etc already installed on ROS... and so no package these apps/tools into image

Which monitor are you using? I use Uptime Kuma, in a standard Docker setup currently.
UPD from 5 days ago - Ubuntu installation work amazingly at blaze in my hap ac3 using this guide, thanks Druvis!
Oh, that's what kept everything constantly shutting down? Wow, worth giving another shot!

Any plans to somehow allow mounting smb/ftp drives inside those containers?
I just discovered Mikrotik and I'm amazed! I'll buy an Ax3 asap!
Can we see how much RAM memory a running docker is consuming from our mikrotik router?

Is it possible to make a Linux container with CLAT to use ipv4 where mobile operators only have IPV6? Could you make a tutorial video, please?
Is there a way to use NFS or SMB share from a NAS (synology, ect ..) for hosting containers images for Mikrotik devices that don't have USB ?

How do you use login (username/password) when the docker image is being downloaded from a private docker registry?
Please make a video on mikrotik usermanager for mikrotik admin login.

openwrt is posssible on docker in mikrotik ?
Can not pull alpine --platform arm64 on Windows (Docker Engine Desktop). Error: no match platform in manifest.
Fixed it: add "linux" to platform -> linux/arm64
docker buildx build --platform linux/arm64 -t alpine_core .
Is it possible to run portainer in mikrotik? can we update the docker from it? How about running agent?
No and no. Please see the manual: help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ROS/Container
Can't wait to get an AX2 and (hopefully) run Uptime Kuma,Pi Hole and CloudFlare DDNS in the containers. :)
AX2 will not allow you to run Docker. Make sure you get AX3 instead

does anyone hav try to run grafana on container on mikrotik?
вы упомянули что ваши коллеги используют home assistant в контейнере на Микротике. Как туда пробросить usb dongle zwave?
Nice. Going to try running a Bitcoin node so that I don't need a separate PC or SBC for that.
Instead of reinventing the wheel you could just build one virtualized guest os and let people run traditional docker inside the way they like.
Why don't you watch the first 2 videos of the series :)

To an extent - yes. Video coming soon.
