Fun fact: the cat wasn’t supposed to be in this scene. He was a “set cat,” belonged to one of the cameramen or something. But Brando had a way with animals, and the cat absolutely adored him, and just jumped on his lap right before they shot the scene. It was so natural and pure, they decided to just let it be.
Fun fact: The Brando wasn't even supposed to be there. The cat was about to begin shooting on that scene when a stray Brando came upon the cat, and so, the cat went with it.
I love that this scene establishes the entire theme of the films--which is family and relationships. The scene is basically "this movie is about the mafia, but it's not John Wick and this is not about murder. And we are not hitmen. We are people who value our relationships"
I love how tom hagen stands up as soon as vito stands up. That's respect, not out of fear but from admiration and loyalty. This movie is the best thing ever and everyone should watch it multiple times and at different points in life.
What I love about this scene is that Vito WANTS to help Bonasera. He understands that he just simply wanted to do it the "right" way and was screwed over by the system. It is when Bonasera views him and his family as nothing more than hired thugs is when Vito was disappointed.

The cat has no idea he’s in the greatest film of all time

"A dog would have ruined this scene." -

With all the remakes and reboots nowadays.. No one fucking dares to remake this movie
UA-cam made me a suggestion I couldn’t refuse

"that is not justice, your daughter is still alive" the moment he earned my respect.
maybe the cat is the director
In the Godfather, even the cat is a good actor.
When Don corleone stood up from chair, I also had to stand up from my chair to make sure i dont disrespect him and make him my enemy.

If they ever try to remake this film, it will fail miserably. Nothing can compare.
The innocent cat is the perfect foil for their dark conversation. A most brilliant scene, not equalled in any other film. Brilliant.
"Someday, and that day may never come, I'll call upon you to do a service. Until then...accept this justice as a gift on my daughter's wedding day."

The way you can hear the cat purring so happily in Brando's lap honestly kind of drowns such an intimidating scene with "Awwww."
I had to suit up to be worthy enough to watch this scene.Simply fantastic.
