Hello Lauri, it is nice how you debunk (disagree) the idea that Russian balls are too different or not worth using. I have Russian in 72mm and 75mm. At first, they are strange and the Russian effect causes unexpected challenges. In continuing to practice I made a variety of experiments like 'throwing the sand straight,' 'catching with give,' and similar. Soon, I connected with the sand and it became my friend. Like you say in the video it is not best for everything but for some styles and techniques it adds a certain jazz, a certain dynamic that builds mojo into patterns. I am very glad to have this understanding because it involves a lot of subtle elements and is worthwhile. I went looking for an explanation from someone with more experience than me about the sand dynamics and your video is the only one I found that gets into the concepts. The give/yield, curl hand, grip - and then also the open hand demonstrating the two inch range of lift are the vision understandings I was looking for. Your English is very good that you can get into such details. In working behind the back up over top there is added challenge in controlling the sand. Sometimes my release causes a little hurricane in the ball and my friend in the sand becomes a little tempest, still, with grip like you explain, it is okay that happens sometimes because you can quick zero it back out to flat, true, straight. But! If we make a hurricane and don't grip! Then the flop-over spill can happen, and it is very fast. It is funny how silly one feels when they do flop-spill out and plop on the ground!

Thank you for that comment. It’s actually very interesting to read.
Yeah those type of balls felt so weird first but I think it’s totally worth getting used to.
I still use other type of balls, like beanbags, but Russian style balls are now my most used balls

the sand or other fill in the Russian ball, is a wonderful metaphor for the PORTENT (inner content) OF THE JUGGLER'S INFLUENCE that passes to individuals in the audience through the SPECIAL RECEPTIVITY generated by amazement, admiration, enchantment and flashes of awe. Children, and some adults, dwell in states of awe in response to witnessing the harmonious interplay of physics, mathematics, skill, colorful art and the grace of the soul. A performer is wise to BUILD THE LOAD OF THEIR SAND, the portent of their character, so children and marveling adults find gainful sustenance quietly passing heart to heart when their eyes go wide with surprise, and they gasp; their breath affected by seeing up close what seems to them impossible! But to work on spiritual character, and the influence we are, can require greater diligence than practicing and tossing sweet objects. It can seem easier to simply overflow the tempests of odd deeds and bizarre thinking. Some fancy-pants artsy artists neglect such honorable duty that could be the core of their way. Admittedly, it is hard to blend and balance the truth and the showiness of the show. Then again, all that makes juggling great, is that it is so difficult!

Interesting, I didn't know this kind of balls. For what use are they particulary interesting?

I think for everything. Many world class jugglers use them.
I think they are definetly worth trying out. Some people dont like how they feel (because of the sand moving inside) but I think they make many tricks and moves much easier.
I think the biggest thing is that you can adjust the weight and always still have the same size

@@JugglingMasteryOk, I've seen my circus shop sells russians balls wich look like my mmx balls.
I will try perhaps, or sil-x balls, it seems to be a little similar but with silicon instead of sand.

Those sil-x balls feel very different from ”normal” russian balls with thin shell, but they have a nice surface tho. I like those for 3 ball stuff

Hi Lauri and thanks for the good videos. Can you recommend some juggling balls, and from where to buy? I did start with some basic leather-like balls from Punanaamio store but they kind of got worn out and broke after a month's use. What would be good for next balls? Budget doesn't matter, though didn't think of buying 1000€ equipment at this point :)

I would recommend to go somewhere, where you can try out many different balls, and get the feeling of what kind of balls you like.
If you are in Turku, I would recommend contacting sirkussirkus.com
They have many options and you can try them out in their store (in Turku).

@@JugglingMastery okay thanks for the quick response. I am in Espoo. Let's see if traveling in Turku at some point. Now it's quite limited due to this corona..
Maybe I take the risk and order a few different ones, it's not that serious. Those russian ones seem interesting ones.

What Russian juggling balls do you use

I use Turku balls (those blue ones from this video, not currently available). They are made from ballpit balls, salt filling, airpressured, covered in plastidip.
      And I use Norwiks also
