The arrows that points to other missions is showing what item(s) you need for that mission.Example you need the Janitor's mission and the hitmans potty guard complete to use the items that you got from those two missions, and you need to use the items in the nugget mission:)

Dan figured out a different way to complete the plant puzzle, the real way to complete the puzzle was to feed the plant the flowers in the order you found them
