    Jeff Geerling showed in one of his early Pi5 Videos how to switch the PCI Port from 2.0 to 3.0 in a config file. He tested a 10G Network Card and it reached around 6 Gbit with PCIe3.

    I would have loved for RPi to have embraced UFS cards. It would have been awesome. Smaller footprint is always welcome. Merry xmas. 🎄

    Once there's a case model w/ beefy passive cooling capabilities that can cool rpi5 w/ %90 sustained cpu utilization w/o throttling and nice, good looking integration of a NVME in the same time, I'll get that one.

    • @makerbymistake
      @makerbymistake  9 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, I'm sure there will be options. New cases for the Pi 5 coming out all the time!

      Me too. I don't want some Frankenstein stack of silicone. I want a case with the hat or I'll just use a USB boot disk.

    Hi Maker by Mistake, thanks for sharing. its a cool topic and at this time there is not much content about it. did you plan to make another video, may be with the bottom hat, Gen 3. and speed test ?

    I think the Pi Hat would be perfect for my use. I don’t need much as far as the connectors. My next build will be for Klipper, or OctoPrint for controlling a 3D Printer. I just want something a bit more stable for storage. As I have had a number of failures on the microSD cards.

    You had the bottom too, you could of show how that went on. Its going to be the more popular option IMO. Theres no videos on the bottom

    • @makerbymistake
      @makerbymistake  9 місяців тому

      The bottom is nice because you can fit a full 2280 but it's a little clunky, in my opinion. If you don't mind the size, it's a good option.

    I’ve had so many failures with SD card extender ribbon cables causing interference.
    Are these cables going to be any better??

    • @makerbymistake
      @makerbymistake  9 місяців тому

      I'm not sure, never used the SD card extender cables. Only time will tell.

    • @31plemoine

      I believe ribbon cables for PCIe are special. They are shielded, so that xfer errors do not occur.
      So yes, they will be better. Just forget standard ribbon cables.

    Too bad there is nothing available for the Pi4 8 gig board.

      Pi 4 doesn't have an exposed PCIe lane. The CM4 does, though.

    I bought and received a Pineberry Bottom adapter (HatDrive Bottom GEN3) last week. Just happened to have a 512 GB Kingston NVME 2280 drive lying around. Works fantastic. You really can use this setup as a daily driver. I have a Western Digital WD_BLACK SN750 500 GB NVME which did not work. Keep the video's and writeups coming.....

    • @makerbymistake
      @makerbymistake  9 місяців тому +2

      Too bad about the WD_Black. I suspect the more power hungry SSDs won't work, but that's just my suspicion. It really is a nice setup

      So does this mean a Corsair MP600 MICRO 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe x4 Gen4 2 SSD won’t work????
      Or
      Integral 1TB M.2 NVMe 2242 PCIe Gen3 x4 SSD - won’t work either???

    Are you reading texts of from the side? Because it makes for very weird and awkward "eye contact". Maybe try putting the text under the camera and (as soon as your channel makes some revenue) invest in a teleprompter. Enjoyed the video nonetheless; keep up the good work!

    Hi!
    Do you think a SSD NVMe of 4tb will work with pi ? If yes do you have some brands exemples ?

    • @makerbymistake
      @makerbymistake  8 місяців тому +1

      It depends on the brand and model of SSD and the M.2 adapter that you are using. Unfortunately, it's hard to have a comprehensive list, so, do research before buying a specific model. I haven't tested any 4TB

    Very badly designed, you cannot cover the cooling fan. It is silly. Pimoroni designed a better one that goes below the RPI5.

    • @makerbymistake
      @makerbymistake  9 місяців тому +1

      Covering the cooling fan is fine. The fan does it's job with this HAT or any other HAT

    I wish you would have included the same process of installing the bottom NVME board as well as the top hat you did. I’m curious how much space there is going to be between the boards since my full-size NVME Drive will be running a little bit hot and I have heat sink on it as well and want to make sure there’s enough room.

    • @makerbymistake
      @makerbymistake  9 місяців тому

      On the bottom adapter, the NVMe drive is installed facing away from the Pi. They provide stand offs to work as feet and you can always get longer stand offs

    • @ksoonsoon
      @ksoonsoon 9 місяців тому +2

      @@makerbymistake Outstanding. I was hoping that might be the case, but for some reason I didn’t think so from what I saw in the initial installation of the top hat. That is one of the reasons why going through what might seem kind of a meaningly process of installing the bottom board would’ve been helpful. Thank you for the quick reply.

    But the Pi 5 still only had one lane of PCIe 2.0 (or 3.0 if you hack it but that might cause stability issues) bandwidth to work with, which will be sloooow in terms of NVMe...
