    I've been binging your instructional before the start of my season. Really excited to practice and train this year as we're headed to Switz and Banff! Your videos have been incredibly helpful in my progression and understanding of snowboarding. Love the clear and concise instructions as well as the diagrams/graphics you add for context.
    Hope you have a great season!
    Cheers from Canada.

    LOL, the half cab joke still gets me. I'm also still confused why it isn't a switch bs 180. Finally did 180 turns my last day of the season. I should have done it earlier as I probably would have gotten the 360 easily. But enjoyed the few resorts I went to and did a good few days of jumps near the end of season. Season is over for my location but looking forward to all the drills next year!

    Another great video Malcolm! Your explanation of progressive difficulty with clockwise vs. counter-clockwise 180s makes sense and I have not seen discussed with other tutorials. This video will also help with my daughter but I'll skip over the 2:35 (she hates clowns) 🙂.

    The toeside back to back 180s in carving is so much fun bc you always switch to a new toeside at every carve. Everyone skids to a full stop on heelside at the skilift. I always end toeside for maximum snow cloud and skid a 180 backside, then ollie out a frontside 180 with the pop of the board. That is fun.

    Thanks to your tutorials I‘ve been able to do my first ever 180s this season. I am riding regular and the spin direction I feel more comfortable with is CCW. I am a little surprised I begin spinning in the air with the combination you ranked 3rd hardest. 😅

      @malcolmmoore  5 місяців тому +1

      I got sent them so I'm trying them out, I like them on piste, but off piste and when conditions get a bit rough they're not the best. I prefer a bit more lateral support, but that's not what they're meant to be doing anyway, for a freestyle binding they're great.

  • @elho001

    Frontside off the toes is easiest to me, probably also as I learned that first, but also as coming in with a frontside carve is the strongest and most stable position (when learning it as a beginner) to jump off of, the camber is loaded from the carve and you can push off of the locked in edge.
    Second I learned was switch frontside off the toes, but that was a much less stylish whipping the board back around thing withou the board loaded.
    Second easiest (to do with more style than the last one) I would rate frontside off the heals.again second strongest carve to go off of and with an open stance (the "plus" position back in the days) the upper body needs a lesser rotation. Great to do on the junction of two pistes frome the lower/less steep onto the higher/steeper making you automatically land toeside.

    What if we send it on a steep area, do you go flat on snowboard or edge to edge, like it is not how to manage, but how to handle speed, when we wanna go fast, is iz point to carve, or be flat, to me flat is kinda scary, easly to catch an edge, so I am intrested in how to do fast riding and like manage it ?

    Would you consider compass a variation or a different move altogether? Also whats the difference between a compass vs nose/tail roll anyway 🤔

    • @malcolmmoore
      @malcolmmoore  5 місяців тому

      I would consider it a different move as you're not really popping the board and getting any air, but definitely alot of similarities. No difference between a nose roll, but I think compass just denotes a full 360 spin, the whole way around a compass I guess!

    In some traditional martial arts, there is a series of patterns (called kata in japanese) that you repeat in order to train different movements... I wonder what the kata would be for these 8 180s... to be a good kata you would finish in such a position that you could start the pattern again... something like:
    starting on toe edge:
    frontside 180 from toes
    switch backside 180 from heels
    --carve around to heel edge--
    frontside 180 from heels
    switch backside 180 from toes
    --carve around to toe edge--
    backside 180 from toes
    switch frontside 180 from heels
    --carve around to heel edge--
    backside 180 from heels
    switch frontside 180 from toes
    --carve around to toe edge--
    ^repeat pattern^
    would like to see someone chain these (waiting for the inevitable link to a Ryan Knapton video where he nails these at a 100mph! ).

    Still don't understand the difference between switch FS 180 and a half cab. Can someone explain?

    • @malcolmmoore
      @malcolmmoore  5 місяців тому +1

      Half cab is popped off the fakie end of the snowboard (switch nose). It comes from a skateboarding trick named after Steve Caballero, and in skateboarding it was always popped from fakie. In Snowboarding it has become common to call anything switch fs a cab spin though. But for me, coming from skateboarding, cab has to be popped off the switch nose, otherwise it's just switch frontside. To be honest though, the majority of snowboarders aren't aware of this so I wouldn't worry about it too much, it's just my view, and plenty of professional snowboarders will refer to anything switch frontside as cab, it's just kind of become accepted as to that's what it is in Snowboarding.

    Ah man STRONGLY disagree. Been learning these lately and from a beginner 180 perspective easiest for sure is a back 1. Here's why: forget the board, when you jump you jump with your toes leaving last and good calf engagement. A jump from a toeside carve feels natural and you can get more air. You can do a back 1 on flat snow without an ollie pretty easily and it was the first one I hit. Front 1 without an ollie requires an awkward heel jump where its hard to get good traction, you basically must ollie which you do in the vid. Sure, learning an ollie is best, but the question is what is the easiest to learn. Personally I think back 1 entering switch is slightly easier than entering homestyle, because the landing is harder than the jump.
