A really good tip when cutting out the windows, door etc is to make the cut but leave it them in place when you bake it to prevent the structure expanding, giving you wonky shapes . You then just re cut the shapes (which are really obvious and easy to cut)
I just finished mine! Like some other folks, I had to add a bit more milk because the dough was dry. Also, if I do this again, I won't put the dough in the fridge before rolling and cutting, as that made it *really* stiff. My arm muscles got a great workout. The template worked quite well! I had a feeling that I'd need more royal icing than the recipe called for so I made extra and was glad: I did need it. If this helps anyone else who, like me, doesn't have a piping bag and tips, a 25cc feeding syring (used to feed sick animals) works quite well as a substitute. It doesn't give you the same precision, but it works.
Golden syrup makes the best tasting gingerbread, in my opinion. The flavour doesn’t compete with the spices as molasses does. Once I started making my gingerbread dough with golden syrup, I noticed the kids in my family started really enjoying it.
Trying this! It’s my first time ever making gingerbread, let alone a gingerbread house (from scratch) so I figured I’d write my journey here. Day 1! So I made the dough....OUCH. It was really dry by the time I finished so I added more milk. Then I thought it was too wet so I added more flour. Then I added more milk and got a pretty good consistency. Until the end, I couldn’t use my spoon, I had to use my hand. Other than that, it’s good. I put it in the fridge and I’ll update this tomorrow, the day of baking and decorating! Day 2! Also the last day! *AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH* Rolling and cutting the dough took four hours, baking took one, rebaking any uncooked took another hour, decorations took an hour, and assembling...oh, assembling. I decided to do stained glass windows out of jolly ranchers and one wall broke so we had to hot glue it an reinforce it with popsical sticks. I broke another wall...popsical sticks. One of the roof things was uncooked...cardboard and popsical sticks. I tried using frosting but gave up and cheated with hot glue. It took an hour to put the house together, but it looked great! I put lights inside and it looked beautiful. I decorated just like the video. Even though it was a ton of work and there were a lot of frustrating parts, it came out amazing! For my first time making gingerbread from scratch, I’m extremely impressed with myself. Thank you for the recipe!!!!!!
Just found your channel! Love it! I can’t believe that I haven’t come across it before! I have been searching blogs and UA-cam, for as long as I can remember, for recipes and creative idea for cooking and your blog and channel would have been a great addition! Well, time to enjoy your channel now! I will definitely be binging with Carina! 💥
Thank you so much! This recipe couldn’t have worked any better. I had trouble with the royal icing so I just used hot glue but everyhting assembled well and for my second time making a homemade gingerbread house, it turned out so much better than I thoguth. Thank you so much!
Carina! This is uncanny! We are having a baking comp for a Gingerbread House at work and I've been nominated to make an entry. I spent about half an hour this afternoon looking up how to do it but here you are with the instructions and all! Thanks so much! xx
Also, just a question - I have heard that some doughs are just for the structural stability of the house, and they aren’t recommended for eating. Is this mixture still edible, even if it is a harder dough?
Great tips, thank you. I just discovered a lifesaving (or gingerbreadsaving) tip: If/when your pieces come out uneven, and aren't fitting together perfectly, use the superfine side on a box grater to even them out.
Love this simple recipe and informative instructions. And I have picked up great tips . I just had a look at your other UA-cam videos- they all look like great and delicious recipes - I just don’t know where to get started

Hi, Carina. Your gingerbread house looks so cute and adorable, just like you, my dear friend. What's your favorite thing about gingerbread house recipes? I wish you a very Merry Christmas, Carina. Take care of yourself, sweetie.
Beautiful tutorial, thank you. I plan on making one this week as a practice - just need to grab a few more ingredients. Love that. your are from New Zealand and mention the difference in ingredients from overseas options!!
Thank 🙏you for sharing your recipe. İ have always wanted to recreate this Christmas yuletide treat as a family affair. What a great way to cherish new memories during this Covid holiday seawon.
I appreciate your recipe, I saw someone did it the melted butter method and I found it very interesting I'm gonna try it I'll tell you his it turns out. Thank you Carina
I love everything about this! The editing, background and your voice. I'm literally mad at myself for not discovering your channel until now. This gingerbread house is so classic! I really like the fact that it's not covered in different kinds of colors and candy. This is definitely my favorite style of gingerbread houses. ❤️
i've seen some that say to cut pieces immediately after taking it out of the oven when it's still a little soft. i can see why. the edges will all be flat. i haven't made a house from scratch, just kits. going to give it a try this year. made gingerbread men one year. the kids like giving them different frosting outfits.
This is the most stunning gingerbread house I’ve ever seen! Thanks for the recipe Carina tried one from a book it wasn’t stable enough so made Xmas tree cookies instead will be trying yours now xx
Hi Carina! Thank you so much for the recipe! I never baked a ginger cookies before. I just want to know is it normal for the cookies is hard? I mean the cookie is not soft or crunchy, its compact and hard. Is it normal?
You make it look sooooo easy but I know from experience, that it is anything BUT! However, I haven't tried your recipe so maybe this time, it will work when I try it, lol
For all of you guys who want some tips: 1.) You don't have to chill the dough! If you are impatient, a floured surface will work just fine! You can just role it out and cut just fine! It might just be a little bit harder to cut since it isn't cold. (You also can bake without chilling it!) 2.) If you don't have the right ingredients for the icing, you can use store-bought, but you might have to wait longer for it to dry depending on the icing. 3.) You don't need a template, you can make a homemade one with a ruler, if you don't have a ruler, draw lines as best as you can! Just make sure that you have something straight to cut with! (Make sure that when you are cutting that you leave a good enough slant for the roof, or else it may be harder to put on!) 4.) You can pipe the icing on using a regular sealable bag! Just cut a hole in the corner! 5.) If you don't have Molasses or Corn Syrup, use this recipe! You also don't need Clove or Allspice! (It's 100% optional!) bakerbettie.com/gingerbread-cookies-without-molasses/ But you might have to bake it a little longer! Make sure to watch the cookies as they bake!
Wonderful work! Thanks for the video. I'm making a gingerbread house this year ❤️ just a question, what can I do to prevent the dough from raising in the oven? I thought since it didn't have any baking powder it wouldn't raise but it did anyway😂 and I'm getting kind of frustrated, help me please🥺

Very useful, thanks 👌🏻

every parent should have their kids do a gingerbread house during the holidays, it is a wonderful to create and bond the whole family!
It could cause a homicide. It is so complicated to do. Just buy one and eat it together lol.
We have been making only this one every year, probably for five years now, very happy with it, it is our family tradition. 😊❤
The whole video is a masterpiece! The filming, editing plus sound!! I think I found one of the most aesthetic youtuber ever

@@jaanal2644 I would but like melted sugar is a bit harder to work with, maybe next time if I make this again thanks for the suggestion!

This is an excellent gingerbread house presentation or tutorial, thank you very much for an excellent jpb. God bless you.
You made it look so easy! The big takeaway is take your time and let the icing dry completely between steps.

hey, this looks amazing I really want to try it out but I was wondering how you stored the royal icing for all these days without it hardening?
Hi! In the fridge, with plastic wrap pressed against the surface of the icing so it wouldn't dvelop a skin and harden. This works for up to a week 😊
