I think that it's a more refined solution to what Petzl has been doing. It's an improvement over the Nomic. The grip sizing method of the Hydra is better for sure. The Nomic pommel position changes change the swing between sizes, the Hydra swing stays the same regardless of size. The headweight positioning of the Hydra is also a better feel than the Nomic. And the Hydra ice picks are far more durable than the pur'ice.
So maybe I’m not getting it but isn’t this just a slightly improved Nomic but like 20 years later?

Oh interesting, my experience with the old BD picks was that they were less durable than petzl, did they change them? @@nathanchaszeyka
is it stiffer than a nomic? someone should do deflection tests hanging on ice tools.
