So true! I guess with how simple the graphics are, they had enough space on the cart to fit some live guitar samples. And the MIDI guitar doesn't sound half bad either!

That one was actually performed with a real electric guitar, unlike most songs (excluding the car select theme and the results theme) which are definitely sampled.
I was 6 years old. My cousin who was s4 years older than me, brought his N64 over, and brought this game. Didn't know what it was, all he told me it was a futuristic racing game. I sat on the couch. He slapped that game into the N64 and turned it on. The BAM saw the N64 logo, with that killer intro, Mani was looking at the Title Screen for a little bit, the demo ran like 3 times, before my cousin had to snap me out of it. After that I was hooked. Man if they put this entire soundtrack on CD & Vinyl, I'd buy it.
There was a soundtrack release...sadly it was only in Japan and they're super rare and expensive these days. I really wish Nintendo would do official re-releases of their soundtracks or open a digital store or _something_
The N64 cartridges were very limited, but the fact that this game was so scaled back graphically, to the point where it actually achieved 60fps natively (the only N64 game to do so), meant there was a lot of room to spare for badass soundtracks!
Ahead of its time. Still sounds so fresh even from +25 years from released. Way before Synthwave, Retrowave, this is like ProtoOutrun. Big fan, and I had this Tape with me in my old Nintendo 64 so I played as a kid. It's fascinating.

N64 graphics were superior than Playstation graphics. The only thing is that the games were smaller on size due to being made on cartridges. That's the reason Final Fantasy games weren't made for the N64 at the time.
Music like this came from a specific era that will never come back. This is peak 1993 - 1999. Edit: Game music lol, this is 80s metal through and through.
OMG! That's exactly how I got F-Zero X too! When my dad brought me to Wal-Mart because I wanted F-Zero X after I got the SNES F-Zero from a local pawn shop, he said he would let me get another game. And I chose to get Pokemon Blue even though I never heard of Pokemon or what it is all about.
Actually there are a few frame drops here and there I haven't experienced on original hardware. However it might be due to the fact that my N64 and my cartridge of F-Zero X are PAL ones running at 50 Hz. Maybe the fact that the framerate is lower than on NTSC console (running at 60 Hz) makes for a more stable experience. Other than that I haven't spotted major emulation errors.
