I was just about to pay money for t a little bag of these, then found your video. Now I know I can make them myself from old inner tubes that I already have laying around. Thanks! Oh, and max TOTALLY stole the show.
Nice tip as a salvage item. You might run across an old broken down bicycle almost anywhere in a scavenging situation so this is a good idea to keep filed away.
I asked at my local bike shop, and the repair guy there fished some busted inner tubes out of the waste bin, and gave them to me for free. They were tire tubes that didn’t hold air anymore, but pieces of them work fine as big rubber bands.
Great info. I have been using rubber bands made from silicone for things like this. They are impervious to freezing and last a lot longer than rubber bands. But I love the cheap inner tube idea. It sounds like they will perform just as good as the silicone bands and they are definitely a WHOLE LOT cheaper. Thanks for sharing this info.
Pretty dog.... Great idea, this will come in handy in the long run and I'm going to give this a try on my dogs tags asap. I knew I was saving that darned inner tube from the bike I don't have anymore for a reason. I've been trying to think of a way to keep his tags quiet when we're hiking or just walking around the neighborhood at night, being silent. Should work well on keys in my backpack too. Thank you
I use a ranger band to hold my old service dogtags together and it never occured to me to use them for my dogs id tags till i watched this video. Funny how you can overlook to obvious, so don't be shy people share your uses. thanks for the videos take care God bless
Loved what you did on your Neck Knife w/the RB! (Gotta do that!) Other good suggestions for the RB's are: Rope Containment; Loose [backpack] Strap(s) Holders (though these will probably need to be cut/glued to get that 'Perfect' fit.); Battery Containment 'Straps' (Helps keep batteries together, and not lost in a myriad of other gear; Plus, if you Make Wide Ones, place the RB over the +/- Sides of the battery, and this [will] protect them from erosion that comes from exposure to O2 & Moisture/Dampness!); my Final contribution is Magazine and Firearm Grips. (Tips: For Magazines: (1) You can use RB to attach 2 Mags together for Quicker exchange by Cutting 3"-5" Sections. (2) Take a 2" section, place it on your Mag. approx. 1" above the Bottom. Place a healthy dose of Super or Contact Glue on the bottom (1/4") of the Band, and Roll the Top Down to where it Rests on the Glue. Once your Band is on Correctly, give it a few minutes to ensure a thorough Drying. Finally, and this is Optional; but you [could] Roll the Front portion of the Band back a bit, and apply some where it will rest when it is released. Repeat this on the Opposite section. (All this does is help the band from slipping. But it is helpful when you go to grab for a Mag, and the Band's slipped... you're kinda left surprised for a second...) ((Practice this a few times to get it 'Right' before trying it, or (a) your glue may Dry too fast; (b) you may not get it on straight. [JS])) (2) Pistol Grips (my Favorite of all time): These can really be tricked out, if you want to spend a bit more time and effort on them. (Which I 'recommend. Seriously!) But there is One (1) Downfall to the 'Tricked out' ones: They [may] make the grip Larger than may be comfortable for you. But even with this, you can "Form" (Cut) them for a Perfect fit. So it's really not a down side.... Anyway, for the quick & easy One (a) Take a measurement of your Grip, then cut a Band 1/4"-1/2" longer than your measurement. I found that Rolling it onto the Grip is easier; but that's just me. You may be a Bad ass and be able to stretch it out and all the way on to the Grip. Either way, (b) Place Band onto the grip. (c) [Optional] Coate your new Grip with Cooking Oil VERY LIGHTLY. >>With Your Shooting Hand.
cool never thought of using a bicycle tube. i use a wheel barrow iner tube on my hard hat. to carry soap stone and pencil that to short for pockets thx
thanks for breaking away from your stove videos and doing these type of videos....people care for your videos and you do get the word out there..I have mentioned you a lot in , y last video of a bug out bag...
Thank you for showing everyone including me I have been trying to use my cycling tubes but they are too thin to stretch that far lol. I guess I need a bigger tube for that.
In order to make longer tubes someone suggested cutting diagonally and that's a good idea, but so long as gluing them works, consider cutting long strips length-wise and then you have a long continuous strip without the hassle or weak joined spots, or if you make a larger loop it has only the one joined spot.
I ordered a variety size bag of these things and I wish I had known I could just get bicycle inner tubes it's good to know if I need to make some if the ones I ordered brake
About that rattling with dog's (Max) collar.. I prefer not to have collar when dog is inside the house. Quite useful info tho this ranger band.. Thank you!
You mentioned the use of car tire inner tubes to make larger bands. Haven't had much luck in finding car tire inner tubes, since all, but specialty, tires are now tubeless. Do you know of any source of car, or truck tires ... ????? Your reminiscence of banding " dog tags " to prevent them from clinking together and betraying your presence brings back a memory, or two...Cheers.
I turn em inside out & wash the white powder off the inside with soap & water, then dry it. Used 1 to replace the strap retainer on my watch band, works great. If you want a bunch of different sizes, you can order off Amazon, SCOL survival supply, (Skog Bands, Large mix) for about $11.00 USD, Made in the USA.
The inner tubes will outlast regular rubber bands, but they will perish over time with exposure to the elements. Their life span is more on the order of years rather than months, but you should check on them every so often if they are not where you will see them regularly.
Nice review. What are your thoughts between survival vs fighting knives. He would be good to get yojr input. It seems we are being sold brands on youtube and social media rather than effectiveness
Thank you very much, I saw them on another vid then saw them 4 sell. lol almost bought some! saw this video just in time. I have plenty of old tudes around. I'll give it a shot.
Please give Max an extra scratch under the chin for me. What a fine specimen. Like the ranger band ideas. Didn't know the difference between ranger bands and rubber bands; good to know.
Heat shrink tubing is used for insulating electrical connections ... its not elastic but can be used as a cover for things somewhere like radio shack if your in the US or RS Components (uk) sell it also come car part stores do
Thanks for the information on the ranger band video. I now know where to get bicycle tubes for freeeee! I have wanted to use them on my paracord survival bracelet. BTW Good looking dog.
Hi Hiram, thanks so much for a very informative video (for those of us who are not in the loop!) Love Max to the moon! ...again, nice simple and somehow relaxing video. -- Pladin
Cowboy Just in case anyone is still wondering his neck knife is a Becker BK-11 manufactured by KaBar from 1095 CV carbon steel. I have one. Its a great knife. The end of the handle is a wire breaker and bottle opener. It was only about $35 too.
Awesome . Love the idea of those ranger bands. Also I like what you did with your channel. You have my subscription would love to have your support as well. Again thank you. ATB JOE
MAN THAT IS SO FKN COOL IM GLAD I SAVED MY OLD BIKE TIRES CUS I USE RUBBER BANS 4 EVERTHING AND IM A HIKER SO ILL B USEING THIS TEKNIC 4 ALOT OF THINGS MAN UCOOL THANKS BROTHER !!!!!!!!!!!
Seems everyone here likes Max very much -- why not let him do a video. Maybe share his thoughts on doggie treats or cat chasing? hmmm...does he like his tummy rubbed..? .please tell us a little about him. My three pups would like to know. ::)) -- Paladin

Catskill Mountain Girl. Why the fuck would you buy something at Walmart that you have no idea what to do with? Just a thought! Great video by the way. Thanks.
For all the dog knew, the camera was a gun and the man was about to shoot him. I know his owner is nice to him, but in a dog's limited mind it doesn't understand the purpose of a camera and just interprets that as somebody pointing something at them with ill intent.
I just want to say, I really like your buddy Max.
You're a fountain of information, Hiram. Thanks for sharing with us, and thanks for your service!

Cool. Thanks for sharing that idea.
Ranger band =bicycle inner tube. Fancy name for a common item that is so useful to hold together camping gear. Thanks Hiram for another great video.

Sweet ole dog. Thanks for sharing Mr. Cook and thank you for your service!
WOW thanks for these tips. I had no idea an old inner tube could be so useful.
I use a ranger band to hold my old service dogtags together and it never occured to me to use them for my dogs id tags till i watched this video. Funny how you can overlook to obvious, so don't be shy people share your uses.
thanks for the videos take care God bless
Back before the tubing sling shots, we cut the inner tube the long way and made long rubber bands for our home made sling shots.
Great job Hiram, you explained this to me probably a year or more as to what a ranger band is. Great to hear about its background and historical uses.

Lol, I think it's going to give duct tape a run for it's bussiness.
And please do, do a video. I'll watch! What you wrote sounds interesting but I think a visual would be less confusing, at least for me.
Outstanding. I guess I'll be reconning some inner tubes. Thanks for the knowledge!
cool never thought of using a bicycle tube. i use a wheel barrow iner tube on my hard hat. to carry soap stone and pencil that to short for pockets thx
Great explanation and just a really nice easy video to watch - subscribed!

Much appreciated Hiram! I always wondered what a Ranger band was and now I know
; )
I ordered a variety size bag of these things and I wish I had known I could just get bicycle inner tubes it's good to know if I need to make some if the ones I ordered brake
Finally...got me a good look at Max. Beautiful dog.
If you cut the tube the same way just like you were making bands , but on a diagonal you will get larger ones without gluing. Ya-follow ?
Thanks Hiram, my dog does the same thing every morning! Ill give your idea a try.
About that rattling with dog's (Max) collar.. I prefer not to have collar when dog is inside the house. Quite useful info tho this ranger band.. Thank you!
That's a nice idea but Max was kind of weird. He didn't like to be without his collar , honest.

Thanks for the information but more importantly, Thank You for your service!!

Thank you sir for the tips. Got a fire starting kit that I will be adding these to. Appreciate the Vid.
GREAT video. Short, sweet, right to the point AND a doggie
Thanks for the video, simple and to the point. I really like it, shows some good uses of ranger bands. Friendly pup you seem to have there too!
Cut to size, they make for a great pistol grip cover.
The inner tubes will outlast regular rubber bands, but they will perish over time with exposure to the elements. Their life span is more on the order of years rather than months, but you should check on them every so often if they are not where you will see them regularly.
They burn really well making them an excellent tinder extender too!
Great idea on the dog tags. I can't wait to put that one to use.
Nice review. What are your thoughts between survival vs fighting knives. He would be good to get yojr input. It seems we are being sold brands on youtube and social media rather than effectiveness
I had no idea! Thanks.
Thank you for this video i had the same question!
Thank you very much, I saw them on another vid then saw them 4 sell. lol almost bought some! saw this video just in time. I have plenty of old tudes around. I'll give it a shot.
Great video. Poor pitiful dog Awwwww. Thanks
I love the smell of inner tubes.

Thank you for an informative video 👍
Nice video, brother!
😊
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Do you still make fire kits for people if so can you please make me one?
Please give Max an extra scratch under the chin for me. What a fine specimen. Like the ranger band ideas. Didn't know the difference between ranger bands and rubber bands; good to know.
......Ahh yes, car tire inner tubes. lol
Lol, you caught that too.
They used to exist.
I heard the name just didn't know what they were; thanks
Can these be used as heat shrink tubing?
What are those bands that you can heat up(with a hair dryer) and it shrinks? Is it ranger bands or something else?
Heat shrink tubing is used for insulating electrical connections ... its not elastic but can be used as a cover for things somewhere like radio shack if your in the US or RS Components (uk) sell it also come car part stores do
27andymonty Thanks
Seriously useful sir thank you
Thanks for the information on the ranger band video. I now know where to get bicycle tubes for freeeee! I have wanted to use them on my paracord survival bracelet. BTW Good looking dog.

Liked and subbed. Peace
a wheel barrel tube makes one a little bigger
Banding dog tags together, to keep them quiet, is an old G.I axiom. The last thing you ever wanted was to have dog tags clinking together, and betraying a position, or patrol ..
I use em to keep my balls of steel from klinking together. lol

Seems like Max has been misbehaving and you haven’t discovered it yet XD
animals/ pets can end up with a shy/cowering demeanor simply from being a runt. or from a plethora of stimulus. it doesn't mean they've been abused..
Catskill Mountain Girl. Why the fuck would you buy something at Walmart that you have no idea what to do with? Just a thought! Great video by the way. Thanks.
Good dog!
Yes he was. Thank you for the kind words.
cars don't have inner tubes...
sure they do. there are still cars on the road today that predate the radial. trucks too...
Are these edible?
minerlayton 😂
Why is the dog so "shy". I don't think he is "shy".
doge
