Donny, I just watched this again, and appreciated the build all over again. I would do some things differently, but that doesn't make my way right. I appreciate your work and I appreciate your sharing it with everyone. Well done!
Oh my gosh,Your speaker looks awesome!!!You can start a great bisness if you keep up this great work and thanks for keeping us intertain with your great talent , keep up the good work.😉
Yes, quite good work, also the loudspeakers were installed acoustically correctly, from the front into the baffle. For HiFi speakers in the living room I would use real hardwood 3-4cm thick and the speakers have to be insulated with wool or foam, also bass reflex speakers.
Nice build!! How long does the battery pack last? I have built a 5s Battery pack using 15 18650 batteries for a PA speaker, and I played it a full volume for 12.5 hours before I recharged it. The voltage dropped from 20.1 volts down to 19.6 volts, but it is only running a single speaker at about 30 to 40 watts output into a 10" woofer and a horn tweeter.
Thanks! You most definitely have to isolate the left and right drivers with a separate enclosure. Other way the drivers will be forced by the pressure created by the subwoofer.
It is a CSR64215 Bluetooth audio receiver board but I did not include it in the final build plans since the newly released TPA3116 amplifier has a Bluetooth chip built in.
This is an awesome work. What we see here is a piece of art! Excellent! I would like your advice please. Instead of the full range speakers can I use a pair of two way car speakers 4ohm, 40 watt rms, that I already have? Thank you!
Heya, Do you perchance have the updated blueprints for this particular iteration? Looks like you moved the controls on top further to the front to allow the handle to be put in centre (fantastic decision!) I'm just getting the parts in to attempt to create this as I absolutely adore this! Thank you so much. Alex
Hey my friend. I have an old set of 2.1 philips pc speakers. Can I make a boombox like yours if I tear it down? Can I do it with the same parts as you?
hi dony, i'm from indonesia, i'm also a tpa3116 user, i want to make it like yours. how many amperes of battery output do you assemble? is it safe for tpa3116
I have a creative sbs a120 2.1 system and the woofer doesn't blow air on its hole anymore. Ii did when it was still new and the sound from the woofer is so weak I can hardly call it a woofer anymore. what seems to be the problem here? should I replace the speaker on the woofer?
Check every possible air leak in the enclosure and seal them if there are any, remove the woofer and play some low frequency tones to check if there are any noises coming from the woofer itself. Gently push the woofer to check if there is any rubbing of the coil against the magnet. If so, change the woofer.
Circuitry question: if I made a second entire battery pack, with BMS board and connected both in parallel (to double capacity) would I need a different charger? Maybe 25.2 V by 4 Amp? Or stay the same?
This speaker is so well done, the enclosure, crossover, everything, but i dont like the design. Maybe i would add 3 of those speakers at the sides to fill the space, but it still being an awesome project. Congratulations
Thank you so much! Adding as many speakers to the enclosure as you want is not as easy as it seems! Every speaker has to have its separate volume calculated.
Nice speaker! How did you calculate the bass reflex port? I'm building a bt boombox with two 8 inch mids, one 6 1/2 inch woofer and a horn tweeter and I wonder how many, long and wide my bass reflex ports should be. I have tried software but there is not enough information about my drivers to use software. Can you help me?
If you dont have Vas, Qts and fs values of the drivers, the only possible way to tune a bass reflex port is by ear. Be careful not to make the diameters too small as that can cause port noise if the drivers move a lot of air
You can use a software called "Limp" to measure the impedance curve of your speaker and then calculate the TS parameters. Limp uses the microphone input and stereo output of your computer in combination with some resistors. You need to enter the dc resistance of the speaker that you measure with a multimeter.
This build was based on the Paul Carmody's Isetta build. I have redesigned the enclosure a little a bit and for that I have used winISD of which you can find a few tutorials on UA-cam on how to use.

Look for speaker kits on Parts Express. Try the Executive. Uses the same Tang Band "sub" and Co-axial drivers. I highly recommend getting x6 18650 batteries as the 3 that come with the kit only allow the operate the amplifier at 12V, and using a very inefficient woofer with a low voltage power supply for low amplifier power is a pretty terrible idea because you'll cause the amplifier to "clip" or form a square wave pretty early on the volume knob. Also with the Executive, it's pushing an 8" Passive Radiator so it becomes super stiff (like a PA driver), so you really need that 24V power to make it shine. You'll need the tools to build the kit as the kit does not come with tools. (Soldering Iron, pliers, Gorilla glue, etc)
