One thing that surprises me is that apart from Miles there doesn't seem to be any other fencers that have the same kind of sponsorship that he does. At least that is visible on the clothing he wears etc. Is it just others are but don't place it on their kit etc or is it Miles is just unique in both his style of fencing and the way he presents himself compared to others on the circuit?
@@CyrusofChaos No such thing as a malparry apparently - not defined in the rules. If the defender fails to find the blade, the attack isn't "malparried" - it's just simply "not parried". All the defending fencer has to do is "find the blade" before the attacker hits. Doesn't mattter how they do it.
@@dzfz2100 it may not be an official referee call but of course there is such a thing as malparry: it means that there was blade contact but it happened after a hit was made. And even though it's not an official call, referees will often say it anyway to discourage the follow-up question "what about the blade contact"
@@CyrusofChaos sure - I’ve even used the term before. But I do like the idea of refereeing, as a discipline, constantly reflecting on its precision of language. I hope we can both agree that it you have made contact with the blade after you’ve been hit, you haven’t successfully performed a parry. I like to imagine that the term “malparry” arose as a knee-jerk reaction to an angry fencer squaring up against a referee saying “I MADE BLADE CONTACT” 😅
Do you lose right of way if your attack hits the opponent's guard before landing on target? Does that count as a parry even though no effort was made to parry by the fencer being attacked?
Yes you are correct in that if your blade hits their forte then it is a parry. See it happen most when someone beats their opponents blade but ends up beating the forte.
Dookieryan please don't bring Gerek into this, I didn't hear him curse at all. In fact I've never seen him behave with anything but class in all of the bouts I've ever seen him fence. And I've seen him fence a lot
CyrusofChaos I thought I heard at one point (when testing on the leg) you didn’t fucking hit me. With as quite as it was and the general demeanor on strip I’d be surprised if he actually did say that. I really believe that miles got away with it though (can’t really argue that one)
@@Dookieryan Swearing in and of itself is not a problem, and most reasonably good refs understand this. Your demeanor and presentation are far more important.
@@CyrusofChaos not to throw Gerek under the bus, he is my favorite American fencer to watch, but didn't he say the f word and throw his mask after losing to Kruse at Rio?
It’s always interesting to watch top US fencers fence each other. Nice video!
Profencer the other option was Emmer v Kaneshige. I think I made the right choice
CyrusofChaos Yeah that’s very obvious 😂
Bruh I feel really bad for miles tho he had so many bad calls

Max hienzer a Epee fencer also advertises his sponsorships
hes a model so im sure that helps. imo he has very marketable to youngins
Oh miles ..
sorry Miles, very defined guard sound at 12:52
Seemed like it was just late parry from Gerek's six to me?
The only question for me as a viewer was whether it was malparry or not. Those are the hardest touches to call in both sabre and foil

This was a very high level match!

@@dudeofvalor9294 ah relating it to the beat makes it crystal clear 👌
@@dudeofvalor9294 Yes, spot on - actual FIE rule is T85.2
The way this has been explained to me is that if you land on your opponent's bell guard you have essentially "parried yourself"
Coolest video ever!
i live in Ukraine we allways have a problems with divice
How do they both swear on strip without cards lol
