  • Osmoregulation in marine water animals is crucial to maintain the balance of salt and water across their membranes.
Here are some ways different marine animals achieve this
    Isotonicity with seawater:
Most marine invertebrates are isotonic with seawater, which means their body fluid concentrations adjust to changes in seawater concentration.
    Electrolyte balance:
Some fish achieve electrolyte balance by actively transporting salts through their gills. When they move to a hypertonic marine environment, they excrete excess salts through their gills and urine.
    Ureotelic process:
Cartilaginous fish like sharks achieve isotonicity by storing high concentrations of urea in their bodies. They also have a rectal gland that helps to secrete salt.
