I found this movie haunting, engaging and very moving - great acting, especially from Viggo. The themes and relationships were, dare I say it, archetypal. Cronenberg beautifully captured the time and place along with the great discoveries that Freud and Jung, both flesh and blood human beings with foibles and large egos, brought forth. It was the dawning of a new era.
Keira Knightley was absolutely sensational in the film. Very different from anything else she'd ever done. If there's any problem with the movie, it's definitely not her.
Not that many people realise that kiera knighrly has a degree in neuropsychology. This places her in a very good position to understand alot of the background surrounding the history of psyco analysis and feued
The film’s well acted, well directed, stylish, intense & realistic as the film’s themes of analytical psychology is very well presented. (82%) (4/5 stars) (positive)
I'm not the biggest Keira Knightly fan, and while early on her manic performance is a a bit overdone she was overall better than usual. Fassbender was on solid form but Mortennsen walked away with the movie for me, and I can't say I ever found the movie tedious.
I actually enjoyed Keira Knightley's manic performance early on and the stuff with Fassbender and Mortensen is really solid...but the film totally runs out of steam pretty fast when Knightley goes into "stuffy period piece" acting mode.
Sadly, the only good thing about this movie is that Keira Knightley looks stunning in period dress. Otherwise - as much as I love and respect Cronenberg and the three leading actors - the movie is tedious and then some...
There are hundreds upon hundreds of talented female actors. So WHY chose Keira Knightly? WHY!? She made the film unwatchable. I made it 30 minutes into the film, but she annoyed me so much I had to turn it off.

I agree. She was completely wooden in this film as she usually is in most of her films.

Even worse, some kinky spanky stuff shown in the trailer is not in the feature.

Cassel was pretty good as well. Movie was tedious.

I made it to only 20 mins and decided, she is running my evening.
Was she that bad? Really?
@@ilqar887 yes, it really was that bad.
Keira Knightly acting and face made this movie unwatchable for me! She was irritating as hell! that jaw thing made me laugh!
what a dreadful review! This movie is fantastic! probably Cronenberg's finest. Anyone with some brain can see it.
An interesting film ruined by kiera knightly's terrible acting - was it the studio's idea to cast her?
Not a good film.
