- Gene Slocum was born in Bartlesville in 1931 and later moved to Tulsa where he graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1950. After graduating, he went to work for a jewelry store and joined the Tulsa Marine Corps Reserves. Almost immediately, the Korean War broke out and he was activated and assigned to the infantry. While serving in Korea, Gene was injured and he also received the Purple Heart. In this oral history interview, Slocum looks back on his military service during those years.
