Regarding skipping content, my second child picks up reading concepts much faster than my oldest. We recently got to a lesson where the ee sound of y is taught. Does he already know how to read words like happy? Yes. But the challenge words at the end of the fluency sheet, where he had to sound out words he had never heard, let alone read, was the perfect way to practice that concept.

Yes so true. I love that they have added those challenge words

I will be sharing this video a lot. You touched on so many things that had me fail when I tried this, hated the program because of the tears, and put it aside for a while.

Great tips! I just started all about reading level 1 and it’s working well!

I’m making my struggling reader re-read the stories in the reader books. The first time she will struggle, but I’m there helping her out.
The second time, she’ll read it faster because she’s already had my help, it builds her confidence.

Great tips!! I found what works best for us is having the phonics and word cards as part of morning basket time, which then means we can have a shorter lesson later and read 20 min at night. Spreading it out across the day meant that my kid was touching reading 3x a day but never for more than 10 min at a time and was so successful

Thanks so much for this!! Definitely made lots of those same mistakes!
My oldest is 10 still at a k/1st level - we are integrating Dianne Crafts Brain Integration Therapy (thanks to your awesome videos and reviews on that!!)
My 8 yo daughter is doing very well. My struggle with her is she tends to be a perfectionist and has melt downs if she misses something small, she gets stressed more when we limit her reading lesson to 20 minutes because she wants to get everything done... It's such a hard balance and they are such different learners!
Thank you for reminding me the importance of the 20 min of reading after the lesson and the ideas on how to "outsource" that time! So helpful!!
Do you have ideas on how to make fluency sheets more kinesthetic or fun? For my daughter we do mini m&me after each word or phrase which is a great motivator for her. But for my boys who need to move and my oldest who it takes so much effort - I feel like they dread them!
Do you use the pre-reading for your littles? Or have you found a different preschool / kindergarten program better?
Keep up the good work mama! You're doing an awesome job and I love how real, practical, no fuss your channel is! You have been so helpful to me and my homeschool journey! God Bless!

As far as making the reading list more fun and kinesthetic I will have a video coming out on that topic very soon but in the mean time here is a fun one that might help.

As far as pre-reading I used it but It was about 10 years ago, so my experience isn't recent, but I remember loving the emphasis on rhyming and the gentle approach to phonemic awareness. My child responded well to the activities and Ziggy the Zebra. However, there's a big jump between pre-reading and level 1, and it's a bit pricey for the content. The quality is excellent, making it worth it if you plan to use it with multiple kids. For a single child, there are cheaper alternatives. If your looking for other ideas here is something we love www.wheredyoulearnthat.com/shop/p/alphabet-adventures-1

I get it’s too easy to help them in the wrong way!!! I’ve had reading lesson ending in tears and it’s not nice for me or my kids!!! I’m reading lessons I refuse to skip the review!!! If I see issues I know to review that and more review will come!!! We do the reading habit at a different time!!! We love the letter tiles but I have one kid use his scrabble board to move the scrabble tiles!!! We discuss our read alouds and audiobooks at a higher level!!! I’ve seen my older kids read words they know but don’t know how to break it down!!!
