Identity has been a central concept for artists across time periods, movements, and media since it plays a key role in understanding the self. Marble and oil portraits, Impressionist strokes, Cubist shapes, dream-like landscapes, photographs, and now computers have pulled every stunt to achieve the mimesis necessary to capture the essence of a human being. I would like to unveil how New Media art examines the concept of identity through the manipulation of the data source, the artist’s purpose, the medium, and the audience.
