Glad to see KP is recovering! It was also very important to learn that that their dog's name is Scribbles. Also the retrofit of the lights is really cool, and holy crap that 50 y/o hunk of cherry!
Something to consider doing on your fuel system: have one of your tanks that doesn’t have a deck fill and the only way to fill that tank is by pumping the fuel from one of the other tanks, through the filter system, and into that tank with no deck fill. Have the engine only pulling from that tank. This guarantees that the engine will always be getting clean pre filtered fuel. I did this when I redid the fuel system on my boat and I love it. It gets passed through a 30 micron filter and a 10 micron filter as it gets pumped into the tank. Then the engine has its own set of filters. 10 and 2 microns. I realize the second 10 is redundant, but it was already installed on the boat.
On the big overhead lights, I suggest putting a three pin switch on those lights. Switched one way is normal light. Switched to the other way it would turn on red leds (or another color of your choice) to preserve night vision. It would also prevent waking others trying to sleep.
Old guys are so beautiful. We see you all make the mistakes and forgive. We see you make great strides and love you. We are old only through service. Until the task is done. when the reaper comes for us? Our task is complete. Tradition is the bones of humanity.
Nice to see KP is recovering! That slab of Cherry is awesome! And will make some really nice rails in Arabella the lights look very good KP , nicely cleaned up. That fuel filtration system is truly an awesome piece of kit, and looks tremendously well engineered and made. A wonderful donation to Arabella from Keenan Filters!
Excellent work and cooperation. It's almost like a work of art. Now I love the sea and maritime more because of you. You are amazing. With love and greetings from Istanbul.
Steve giving a tour to the Old Timer's was heart warming ; he showed respect and kindness which is something our country could always use more of . great video well done .
Lovely gift of Cherry. Good to see KP looking better and nice job on the lights, 2 pin bayonet is the standard bulb in the UK. Nice wire terminations from Adin.
What happened to KP? i missed something. BTW, that cherry is beautiful and i thought it was hilarious that you told Ron that when the seas get rough you would be grabbing his cherry. I really admire what you guys (i know that it is your dream Steve, and that you are the driver) are doing. Some background, I sailed a Tahiti Ketch 30 back in the 70's. This was a wooden boat, built in the 40's. The boat was purchased in Nantes, sailed to Panama, Tahiti, Hawaii, then San Francisco and then sold. But, what you are planning, in this digital age, is just incredible. To build this traditional design out of trees from your grandfather's farm is, in itself awesome. But, then you are off on adventure two, go sailing and learning. Bravo, I always remember my sailing years with fondness and to watch you guys do this in the 21st century is marvelous. Keep it up Steve!!!
So love to see your generosity towards those seniors (I'm only 72!) that gives them so much pleasure! And their desire to not waste the earth's resources!
What a fantastic fuel filter system! My two most epic "learning opportunities" sailing have both been fuel system related. would gladly give up the knowledge gained (and grey hairs) in those episodes by having had one of these! Very forward looking. The value gained by having the ability to polish fuel between tanks is hard to overstate!
"I'm going to be hanging on to your cherry" Not a sentence you ever thought you would say, but, this is the sign of the times!! Glad to see everything is falling into place.
More legacy wood and parts… this build is a testimony to several generations of lifetime love. She’ll sail with an aura like no other!!! Thanks for sharing it with me.
The metamorphosis of this channel over the past years is truly unique. It's become organic/alive. It went from a man and a backyard dream, to an international community of togetherness, new friendships, and so much more. I've always loved the boat build... but my favorite parts are like today, old man donating wood ❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯 Sadly, there will probably never be another YT channel like this.
Keep rockin bro prayers for yo momma lost mine 4 years ago she told me that don't stop working because she won't be here to tell you keep going love Crab
beautiful episode, it's great to see that the kindness and decency that you all put out out there returns to you with 50 year old Cherry slab. It was really hard to concentrate on the lights with all that beautiful wood varnish and immaculate paint work. hope you're feeling better soon K.P. it took me a full month after covid before I felt I was back to full pelt.
Watched you cut that big slab of cherry wood on that big bandsaw. I love that saw! It’s really great that people care so much about your project, making such significant donations, that is so significant. Arabella will be a great wooden sailing ship built from the strengths of so many.
Good to see KP back, one concern is the removal of the backing plate on the LED disks, this is normally used to remove some of the heat generated by the LED's, and removal will greatly shorten the life of the unit. You really need to put them back.
Hmm… given it’s a puck light, meant to be flush mounted with about a couple of millimeters behind it, I think that’d make a a lousy heat sink. In this case it’s surrounded by metal around its rim and has about an inch or more now between itself and the mounting surface. Maybe it all works out.
@@AcornToArabella its still distributung the heat away from the diodes. So it would reduce the peak temperatures of the diodes. Strip lights are pretty sensitive to overheat and temd to degrade fast. If it is a flat area you may just copy the old backplate it to aluminium or copper/brass. However considering the humidity you may well have to replace it before its normal lifetime. Make shur you have a few spares and an connector for fixing it.
Wood is good! Cherry wood that you received looked exceptional. Only in the east can one find such wood. In the west in1840's no one new what cherry trees looked like!
As always: great craftsmanship and valuable building materials! For night sailing, it might be worth considering installing red lights below deck. Some LEDs can light up white AND red: simply switch them on and off and then on again and the light will be red... Best regards from SY BALTHASAR!
Great seeing KP again, I’ve missed her. Things coming together now. Fuel pump/filter, and getting that chunk of cherry for handrails. Victoria’s lights polished and leds replacing normal bulbs. Great stuff and great way to end my Friday. Looking great guys n gals and wishing you all a good night from Scotland
These videos show all the hours spent building parts and assembling the boat and I sometimes wonder: how many hours have been spent sharpening chisels, hand planes, drill bits; how many band saw blades have they gone through, jointer and planer blades sharpened or replaced? When you consider all extra hours spent maintaining the tools we watch them use this project becomes even more amazing.
I find watching your videos to be so comforting. So much in the world id rotten: the war in the Ukraine, the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, the tensions in Israel, the load-shedding and corruption in South Africa, the French allowing people to leave on boats to illegally enter the UK , the floods in New Zealand and so much more. Your videos speak of hope and courage and continuation. Thank you.
What a fine looking piece of cherry. It is wonderful those guys decided to invest that 50 year old wood into Arabella. I love the lights being placed in the boat. Can't wait to see how the wiring will be hidden.
I don't recall seeing the finished roof/deck underside all painted before until this light install. It really brings it all together helping highlight all the varnished beams. Looking good!
That's a well thought out fuel filter system. It seems so obviously better than what's typically used that it makes me wonder why nobody else came up with it sooner.
You know man, sometimes I watch these videos and I see something about the boat that is this weeks version of mind blowing. This week my mind is blown over the wood rolling racks, the amount of physical labor saved there is unreal. They have been there like nearly this whole time, I remember the video you made saying "it's going to save so much work" but for whatever reason, this week was the week it blew my mind :P
Every time I see the stairs (8:17) I feel connected to this wonderful project, having spent about 4 hours with Alix helping install them. Unfortunately it was my only visit to Arabella, but I am there every Friday thanks to the wonderful team that has grown from those early days. Keep on truckin' !!!
That fuel filter setup is sick. You'll never see the likes of it on a boat of your size again. It's great that it uses standard Racor filter elements. By the way, those things are pretty expensive once you get out cruising. Take along a bunch of them.
The coffee was hot and so was the show! Why do these episodes go so quickly? It's good to see KP up and around. Praying for your mom and that your time together is a real blessing. See you next week. Those old timers were fun!😁
Great to see KP on the mend, hopefully full steam soon for the push toward finish line.
Well, full sail!:)
Reminds me of my grandpa! I bet he would have loved watching along together!
What a sweet thought!
Glad to see KP is recovering! It was also very important to learn that that their dog's name is Scribbles. Also the retrofit of the lights is really cool, and holy crap that 50 y/o hunk of cherry!
50 years since it was cut down. The tree probably started growing more than 150 years before that!
I concur!
It is vital that we know of any more pet names that we haven't been told yet. :D

We’ve got a plan for red lights.
On my boat turn the switch to starboard you get white light, middle is off and port is red light. Easy to remember in the middle of the night
I came here to suggest the same thing.
Ditto
Go with green or blue light lots of ships are switching to those colors because red messes with your vision too much, and makes you feel angry
That is really so nice to use some great cherry that personally means so much. Much of the boat's wood has personal meaning.

I never thought a fuel filter could be a piece of art. That thing is so cool.
Right?!
just from your explanation I would have suspected an aviation manufacturer. Now you can trim your boat with fuel, just like an aircraft.
Many do with fuel and water… you could say because boats were first that airplanes are doing that like boats do. 😊😉
What an honor it must be to have such a nice piece of timber donated to the project.
You’re a good man, Steve.
KP, wishing you a speedy recovery.
That filter system is freakin awesome! Redundancy is slick
We’re so grateful!
Never fear KP,s back good to see your up and about Steve sure has missed your cherry smile
Great story behind the cherry wood, what a great place for it to end up.
Nice you were able to refurbish the lights. They look great!

Lovely old boys.
50 year old cherry that come out of a massive cherry tree probably 100 + years old when it was cut down! Amazingly beautiful wood.
I sprayed a bunch of brass fittings with clear enamel after polishing. 10 years later, they still look pretty good.
