Lyrics:
Cyrus Jones 1810 to 1913
Made his great granchildren believe
You could live to a hundred and three
A hundred and three is forever when you're just a little kid
So Cyrus Jones lived forever
Gravedigger
When you dig my grave
Could you make it shallow
So that I can feel the rain
Gravedigger
My grandmother died to cancer yesterday. Her name was Judith Crook and she died at 73... 73 is forever when you're just a little kid, so Judith Crook lived forever...
She was outlived by my great-grandmother. You should never have to bury your own babies...
Where do they get such great actors and film directors??? I love whoever plays Cyrus Jones. Dave is an awesome actor with all those emotions and soul-shaking lyrics
I think the fact that he put Ring Around the Roses in the song makes him genius
How are you doing today my name is Eric Moore
i dedicate this to my dad, my little sister died when she was just a year old. and when Dave goes "you should never have to bury your own baby's", gets me every time.
when you have cancer this song means a great deal.i listened to this when i had a second go round with it,and it helped a lot.it is a good coping song, and soothing in its own way.
The music video just brings this song to a whole new level of awesome.
4:14 Dave's expression here scares me. It says "no more talking, no more negotiations, no explanations...it's done. Now, from life I must depart myself. Potentially an Oscar winner.
2003, early morning, basic training, barracks
this was on buddies radio, playing real low of course... inspection pending and coming up fast
this song pretty much well described my mood that morning, lol i'll never forget it
This song reminds me of a poem I read once in high school. It was about the man who carved the stones, but realized how much people doctored the truth about a person when they died.
It's very moving.
dave matthews- a truly awesome musical genius
the reason dave matthews version is so good is because off his past and how much emmotion he has
Such a well played song and video. It gives me goosebumps… in so many levels!
chills, people!
My 1st time hearing this song I was just a 5 or 6 year old boy, waiting for the bus ever since I've never forgotten even though back then back then it wasn't okay for a guy like me to be interested in anything other than rap but i never really cared much for stereotypes I loved/love beautiful music and this is beautiful
I watched this like a million times and it never gets old
GREAT SONG & even BETTER MOVING, SONG!!
My boyfriend was digging a grave for my dog when I first heard this. It was really quite poignant. It was raining, and I wanted to be in that shallow grave, next to my dog.
I can so follow your thoughts, even though it sounds dramatic too other people ( than maybe you and me ) 😢😓😊
Many people are making a mistake. This is by DAVE MATTHEWS. NOT Dave Matthews Band. I can understand the confusion; however, because DMB does sing it on tour.
brilliant, brilliant man
Gravedigger when you dig my grave
Could you make it shallow
So that I can hear Dave
😂👏👏👏👏👏
Oh bang! Yes please ❤
That’s won my internet forever
ahhhh, this song is so beautiful.
Andre her efter x-factor?😜
Yup😂
Yeah 🤣
Feeling quite silly coming back here after all these years - totally worth it though
Dave Matthews...You're my hero
Profundo och deepest !!
gives me chills everytime. DAMN.
Prefer this version of Dave Matthews to his more flowery band stuff.. Also love his acoustic solo music.. Awesome!
its not depressing its the truth
Ring around the rosie, Pockets full of posies, Ashes to ashes, We all fall down
1 September 2021,and I'm still loving it...
love this song. everytime I listen it brings a tear to my eye. Merrial reminds me of the loss of my own lil baby sister.
one should not outlive their children but nor should you outlive a sibling who is greatly younger then you.
Darksoulpoetry everytime I think of her I wish it was me, for my life is so pointless and hers was so short yet so great
beauty in simplicity
He could not have chose a better location to film this music video. Melville Church, in Montana. Like if you agree
Little Mikey Carson
'67 to '75
He rode his bike like the devil
until the day he died
When he grows up
he wants to be Mr. Vertigo on the flying trapeze
Oh, 1940 to 1992--
Gravedigger
When you dig my grave
could you make it shallow
So that I can feel the rain
may he and all other victims of terrorism rest in peace and may those who are responsible for their deaths be brought to justice.
Awesome song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
omg i used 2 listen 2 this so much. amazing song
I love this song and video.
meu pai morreu de cancer. toda vez que estou chegando na sepultura dele lembro dessa musica
What a sad song :(
Why is it that evrey single time I hear this song I get mad goosebumps 😨
My favourite ever ❤
1-9-1967. Sake's alive, sake's alive. Look who's 45. Happy Birthday, Dave.
@LincolnCampbell92 ........In case you didn't know, "Ring Around the Roses" is a ryhme about death; in particular the Black Plague.
@JnnyltiaC
That's 'cos is a great song about the human condition, the reality of every man, telling stories about people that live just like you and me and are gone, just a precious song about what unites us all, the one thing we all share, no matter what.
Thx Mitch... Love it!!!!!!
My great granddad lived to be 106, he died in 2003
My favorite song too
Is it just me or would this song be epic on Red Dead Redemption?
Hell in Wheels should have used this version for killing off so many characters.
2003.. u all think its old.. mathews is good, is, will be 100 years from now..
Just heard this song,
the full length video explains it all. he is in such anguish because he was the one driving the truck that killed the boy on the bike!
omg i love this song like really i do
Haha omg thats like something that would happen in a movie :P
@PRSouthern thanks so much! and yes merchenaries are rolling in the cash lol. I looked him up and he has done a whole bunch with his career. i just can't figure out why i knew i'd seen him before. like in which show i'd seen him in lol.
Much thanks anyways!
@MrGoboka it's not that guy. that's michael clarke duncan who plays john in the green mile. the man in this music video is tony todd
@gayco1 I think you need to search for the version of Dave & Tim at Radio City, as Dave always performs this song live with just his accoustic. And I hope you realize Dave wrote this song, Willie just covers it.
"So that i can feel the reign"
"Have you ever seen the reign"
"Who'll stop the reign"
-think about it.
in benjas we trust in bacca must
@almostnuclearwar GraveDiggaz is one of the Great Groups of All Time, though this is also good....
I never heard this song before. I just listened to both. I like this version better. Willie's version is good too but I think I like Dave's voice better. If you are a fan of Willie's voice then you will probably like his version better.
jimmy sullvin to 1987-2009 he drummed like the devil till say he died gravedigger when you dig my grave can you make it shallow so that i can feel the rain!
RIP Barry God Speed
He brought. Me too
BAJAN LIKED IT
tbh i like both versions from WIlie and from here.
nice
That has to be the hardest job, burying the dead. Ouch...
Why is this not allowed in the USA? I had to turn on a VPN to see this
I am here coz this this song is mentioned in the one of the Robin sharama's book😥
@gparks922 Thank You for clarifying... :-)
Benja brought most of us here.
Benja has styles to his songs :D
@Linkinachain thanks for that
Gravedigger when you dig the repeat buttons grave could you make it shallow so that it can still play Dave...
Both top comments spelled listening wrong... Firefox and Chrome have spellcheck... how do you do this?
@KevDurantula35 yea dude i agree, another band that sounds really similar to dave matthews is "My Morning Jacket" check em out.

@actrimoswaslc It's the same guy that did John on The Green Mile. I noticed im too, I figure that's who it is.
Omg
In baja we trust
@tblack60 you mean they will play, funerals are for the living
My and little Mikey Carson have the same birthday.
In bajan we trust
@actrimoswaslc looks like one of the corrupt marines from 90s action, The Rock (Captain Frye or Captain Darrell, spelling/accuracy?)
No offense to Willie, but I like this one better. The video is just so much more powerful!
haha =P it was sickk
Banana Canada!lulz
A HUNDRED AND THREE
ok i am on both sides here i do believe willie sings this song better but this guy has an amazing powerful video so if the would have combined the two it would have been amazing
I love this, but am I the only one who keeps half-expecting it to turn into the "Graverobber..." parts from Repo? XD
@smokedank541 I'm not a hater, I'll stand my ground, no hater though.
@equinox627 no problem man
Yeah Bajancanadian
the gravedigger buried 14 people so they couldnt feel the rain.
Interesting how they used scenes from Cast Away
Transfixed - Incredible - The tragedy of death.
Willie Nelson sings this song too.
@18banderson , well the thing is when you hear really really really good music like this and then hear justin bieber played everywhere it kinda pisses you off. just sayin.
tony scott's in this?!! :D Candyman candyman candyman
