    Question, have you ever used the top to smoke a brisket? i just purchased a Lockhart, and I want to do a brisket but it looks like the lower cabinet cooks well and also uses less pellets. But i wonder if there's a different on how the cook will come out if the top chamber is used for a brisket.

      Yes, but be prepared to burn through some pellets. Set your temp to ~100° higher than you want it as that’s typically the upper chamber temp. But yeah it’ll still be great, just gotta get the temp right.

    I also have a Lockhart....why didn't you use the upper smoke box vs the grill?

      Mainly just because of the amount of pellets I’d go through

    How would you compare the Lockhart vs some of the PitBoss horizontal smokers/grills?

      The Lockhart is quite simply a BEAST. It's definitely great for searing with the handle that operates the flame broiler. Also, the versatility of the upper smoking chamber is great, but I don't really use it except for overflow because it's about 100 degrees F lower than the main chamber and doesn't have a separate pellet supply, so if I want to smoke at 225 up there I have to set the grill to 325 which burns through pellets much faster. Overall though, definitely worth the investment especially if you cook for crowds.

      @@HolySmokesBBQ thank you very much for the feedback!
      I'm not sure what would constitute using the upper cabinet vs the lower portion aside from overflow. Any ideas for that?

    How do you think the upper chambers would work for holding a brisket at say 150-160?

    • @HolySmokesBBQ
      @HolySmokesBBQ  2 роки тому +1

      I’d say as long as the temp in the main chamber is 250°, the upper chamber should hold it at 150 for as long as you need.

    Great job! What temp did you set the lockhart at?

      @HolySmokesBBQ  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! It was set at 225 the whole way.

    Have you tried to cook a brisket in the top cabinet? What would be the benefit to cook on the bottom instead of the top?

    • @HolySmokesBBQ

      Mainly the difference is the amount of pellets I go through. After owning the Lockhart for over a year now, I only really use the upper cabinet for warming or for “accessory” cooks. Stuff like corn on the cob, side dishes, bacon, etc. while I wait for what’s in the main cabinet to cook. Reason being is that the upper chamber runs at roughly 100°F cooler than the bottom so it will burn more pellets to get that cabinet to the same temp I’d have it on the bottom. Hope that helps!

      @@HolySmokesBBQthis is my main interest in the top cabinet, using it as a "hot hold" 150 degrees for 10+ hours. Do you think the top cabinet would be effective and reliable for that use?
