      I also find her perspective quite interesting.
      I think in this talk she should have acknowledged the incomparable opportunities that the US offers. There is a reason that Raya's family left their homeland to come to the US. That reason is that the US offers the greatest opportunity for success. And that what the American exceptionalism is all about; it is not that Americans think that we are superior; it is that we believe our country has one of the best governmental structures (constitutional republic) and that it offers the greatest opportunities for people of all ethnicities and backgrounds.
      That being said, the US should learn from successful models and practices developed by other countries. Many countries in Europe have much better primary education systems and the US criminal justice system is deeply flawed.

    USA is one of the best places you can grow up. I was fortunate enough to live and grow up here. That being said the US is not the beginning and end of happiness. The world is huge and filled with beautiful people, places, and experiences. Im currently moving away from the US. I've spent 33 years here. I served in the US Navy. Im just ready for something new.

      for many things usa is great, for many not so. for all the things usa system is great europe is equaly great but the bad things of usa like no universal healthcare, endless capitalism without boundaries, high religion, epicly bad transportation system, gun laws and murder rates etc etc we dont hae in europe.

    I completely agree with Raya's outlook. Having grown up in Ukraine and then moving to the United States when I was just 5 years old, I too have had a more open mindset with regards to these societal issues in America. I just wish more people (and this goes for anyone around the world)--have the opportunity to travel, to learn new things, meet new societies and cultures and not be afraid of it, but rather welcome them and embrace those who are different from ourselves. That's all.

    While I agree that traveling is a great way to break out of ones "bubble", it's also difficult to travel when one does not have the monetary means to do so. Maybe that's a topic that can be talked about by you guys. 🙂

    • @isitRachelle
      @isitRachelle 7 років тому +7

      JP Definitely agree it would be great for them to chat about it with us. Though it doesn't take as much money as most people think, it would for sure help if they had some insight for those who aren't in their position :)

    • @MatthewMcNutt252

      I'm not sure where you are from JP, but traveling is cheaper than living in the US. I can travel in Europe on $800 per month. That includes everything.

    • @ZECH1189
      @ZECH1189 7 років тому

      Agreed, but one must have an income source to be able to travel. Whether you live in the states or travel for a living, you still need money. Most people have to settle down somewhere and work. That costs money. How lovely it would be though to travel no non-stop. Also children play a huge role. Schooling is crucial, can't always be on the move.

    'Where to Invade Next' is a great doc. I am so blessed to have grown up in the Australian way of life, obviously a very British based system. My mother is epileptic and couldn't work, so we were lucky that our free health system has helped look after her, and me with free education (until I got a scholarship from a private high school).I feel very safe here and although people do tend to grumble on election day, the last Federal election we had earlier this year I got the sense that every single person in line knew how important their vote was. We do have compulsory voting but the events in the world this year everyone realised that yes, your vote really does count.

    Honestly Louis doesn't live the adventure anymore, he just goes to the places everyone goes to. I'm waiting for him to hit up St. Croix, Belice, Dominican Republic, Haiti, the French Guyana, Jamaica, places that vloggers don't go to, that's living the adventure. Louis is just like any other basic vlogger out there, such a shame.

Most people still have that mindset that another country couldn't possibly be as great as the USA. So if anyone knows of one in Bali, PLEASE give me a shout! You guys are soooooo fortunate to live there!

    shipping containers from Bali are super cheap. You can get one for around $3000 filled with furniture. You'd certainly also be helping the community if you did buy local from them, at cheaper prices than you'd be quoted in your own countries. Its not that expensive to buy and ship from them

    $200,000 in debt?! Anyone with decent grades can get a scholarship to a public university and spend a fraction of that. Heck, I pay nothing because of my grades in high school. It's not normal to spend that much, and also there are community colleges that I think you forget a lot of people attend for minimal costs.

    I totally agree with you guys!! I'm from New Zealand, grew up there and now live here in California married to an American.. It is a lot different for sure and I see how the Americans I have come across that don't travel outside their cities, state or country in general?! I just luv it on how Americans think they know it all and great they are.. I just keep my mouth shut and laugh inside 😂... education is the same but is a lot cheaper back home. Americans need to live outside their country for 6 months to a year and experience another country/culture to really understand it's not greener here in the US.. its green everywhere guys.. stop listening to stories and explore for yourself. Read read or go out and experience it and taste that good life.. My wife and I will eventually move back to New Zealand or Australia where my parents live..

    I wouldn't call it a documentary but I recently saw this movie called Moonlight. And it was an excellent coming of age or really coming of consciousness film. What is important is that America is made up of states, and each state has its own by laws, dialects of English, and ideas about what diversity is. There's no blueprint and everyone has a different perspective on whether or not an education is pivotal in America due to the fact that we are an entrepreneurial based society. What you actual gain from academia depends upon how much you built yourself up beforehand venturing into that field. For some first generation Americans, their parents citizenship status dictates a free education fully funded by Pell Grants.

Would love it if you guys made some videos about veganism and maybe educate others about the benefits of it for our environment, the animals and our health! :) A really good documentary to watch is called Food Choices, its on youtube, and Black Fish its about orca whales... xxxx

    excuse me... university isn't "cheap" in the UK, after 3 years in uni I'm over £60,000 in debt...

      When I went to Uni it was £3,000 per year. Also, all of my friends in the UK that took out loans don't have to start paying them back until they're making enough money to do so and they don't have interest on the loans. It's not like that in the U.S., I'd have started to pay back my loan the second I graduated and it would have probably doubled over time because of interest..

      RayaWasHere There is interest on UK tuition loans since 2010. At least on my husband's loan. Paying back starts with the first minimum wage full time job, but about £25 a month which is impossible to pay back the total amount in a lifetime. My husband already owes over 30K and it keeps growing each month and in order to make it bearable to pay, one needs to put away significant amount of money a month. Nevertheless It might be cheaper for foreigners, it's not easy for Britons. This is truly a mortgage - 'death lock'. Can't imagine anything worse then owing money for life...

    I went to college in the US and my loans totaled $28,000.
    So saying $200,000 for loans is a bit of a stretch. You need to find a place where you can afford.
    Raya, what was the cost of University for four years in London?

      For international students it's normally more than that.
