I lived in Knoxville, TN so Bart on the Road has a special place in my heart. The day after the episode aired, the mayor was on TV talking about being concerned about the portrayal of the city. Then he assured the audience that he and several members of the city council had thrown rocks at the Sunsphere and could assure us it had not fallen over.

You know, "There's No Disgrace Like Home" and "Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield" are like mirrorings of each other.
For instance, one ends with them getting a new TV, one begins with them fixing the old one. One has Burns cheating in the shack race, one has Burns cheating in golf. Burns' house and the Country Club both give off a similar feel. Both episodes have one member of the family trying their hardest to feel normal while the rest are just along for the ride. And one is episode 4 of it's season while the other is episode 14 of it's.
Seems to me like they'd make a logical Simpsons Showdown.

“Summer of 4ft2” is the first episode of this show I ever watched. I was at my Dad’s house when I was a kid and it came on TV halfway through the episode. He was a fan so he started recording it so we could watch it again later. Because it started halfway, Homer throwing the fireworks down the sink is the first scene I ever saw. It’s probably my most rewatched scene in the series because it brings me so much nostalgia and because I had ZERO context watching it for the first time. I also had no context for Lisa’s story, but I knew it felt special. We started collecting The Simpsons seasons on DVD, and when we bought S7 I was FINALLY able to watch the first half of the episode and get the context I had been missing. I’d have to say this is the most meaningful episode of the entire show to me personally, so I’m happy to see it rank so high here on your list!

Scenes from a Class Struggle in Springfield is my favorite for a few reasons. While it’s not the funniest episode, it’s an incredible character development episode for Marge. She’s kind of an inherently tragic character as she sacrifices so much of herself for her family. But once she’s given the chance to experience a new social environment, she thrives almost immediately. I don’t think she means to lash out at Homer and the kids as much as she does, but seeing her be slightly more selfish was a refreshing change of pace.

Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield is the best Marge-centric episode in my opinion. We see a side of her that's new but not unusual either. As a momma's boy of a single mother in the 90s, Marge be not Proud was very emotional for me -- the thought of him getting the (totally deserved) cold shoulder was too much. I'd definitely rank it as the 2nd episode of the season too. My #1 spot, of course, would go to Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield. Say what you will, but I think Marge really won this season -- that epsiode made my cry as a kid, teen, and now adult. Plus, the fashion! I swear, 90s fashion was the best. xD

Marge Be Not Proud is my favourite episode of the Simpsons because it completely emotionally destroyed me as it reminded me of the painful feeling that things will never get better that I had during times I really upset my mother. I think almost everyone would have experienced at least once and even though things always turn out okay it still hurts like all hell which makes the ending of Marge Be Not Proud even more impactful in my eyes as it tapped into that feeling that I get when things are resolved and go back to normal. The other thing I love about Marge Be Not Proud is that it has Marge wonder whether she went wrong when bringing Bart up which again I feel like most parents end up wondering at one point in their lives. The episode just emotionally destroys me but in a way that I appreciate as it reminds me of the whole pallet of emotions that you go through in ones relationship with their mother.

"The curse of the flying hellfish" is an episode that I always thought was from an earlier season, I don't know why... there's a huge disconnect for me between that episode and something like "Bart on the road" I found myself losing interest a little when I got to that episode in my last marathon attempt. I don't know if it's the lisa story or the bart story which had a few funny gags but overall left me wanting a little more.

Pretty good episode rankings. I would definitely rate Class struggle a little higher myself but I wouldn’t put it on top myself because I’m not a Marge person. I might give 7 out of 10. I also like the Halloween special a lot and think it deserves more love too. 22 short films is also always a must watch for me from this season. Also I have to give special mention to “the Day the Violence died” that episode would easily be in my top five!

My favourite thing about Uncle Moe’s family feed bag is… no one forced him to do those particular gimmicks. He wasn’t buying into some franchise with rules and procedures. He could’ve chosen something he wouldn’t have found humiliating and infuriating… but he didn’t!
Also I always loved/was oddly mesmerised by the deep-fried champagne bottle and the husband/boyfriend eating part of the neck! For so many reasons, like, what happened to the champagne inside it lmao. Or just the absurdity of eating glass like a delicacy. Deep fried glass at that!

This is, probably, the most tightly plot-oriented of all classic seasons, next to S2, and that has most obvious encompassing theme through its course: the season of revelations and retrospection, diving into history behind established characters and setting, growing into full “family saga”, tying together paths of individual characters and the town as whole, “22 Short Films About Springfield” just punctuates this theme, highlighting grand scheme. Probably, because of that, season forming solid piece of narration, it’s harder to me single out episodes without thinking about them as part of big thing. But seeing the season as whole unwrapped piece of some long story (get forget about lack of continuity or actual recurring plotlines) is truly fascinating. Imagine seeing it for first time, knowing nothing of what comes next, I get strong impression that series going in new direction, building with all these unfolded secrets to some massive arc centered on big changes of some kind (can it be that upcoming movie was intended to being built on it?). And, after watching “Who Shot Mr Burns?” series, I just get convinced in intentional epicness of this season all more. Honestly, I even start thinking that WSMB 2-parter could make even more impact be it placed in the end of *this* season instead of previous, even more so as second part reaches heights in bizarre, twisty, even-more-referential plot turns and humor, not mention sort of ridiculous resolution, which seems to be right at home in S8. I still admire S8, as its concept ties well with S7: even if expect actual continuous storybuilding from previous season can be vain, in terms of episodic series it takes next step from advancing depths of characters and setting, it starts to play on that establishment, creating stories upon already known and expected scenarios and arrangements, putting characters in new places, genres, dynamics, spoofing (further than even) various cultural phenomena, including these from which the series spawned in the first place. Still would prefer if it returned afterwards to the same profound storytelling as S7 offered. But I digress. Favorite episodes (again, without ranking save top-5)?
“Bart Sells His Soul”, here’s I’m not original either. Coupled with my common bias toward Bart-centered episodes which also make attempt in psychological character study and some of sibling-bonding “schmaltz” as well, this being one of the last in whole series, probably, such intellectual kind of episodes, but not last of esoteric ones, for sure) Even if drama supposed to be all in the head of Bart, it’s still full of suspense and empathy toward Bart, with fairly cathartic ending to boot. And, as stories of individual family members, put in the same season notably, tend to parallel and supply each other, this one personal self-searching story matches well with “Lisa The Vegetarian”, in which she also gets, in different way, on path of self-affirming personal faith, no matter how inessential for ones around her it could seem. (And I find interesting how expressed by her in the end of episode concept of “soul”, wherever she did pick it, foreshadows her eventual conversion in Buddhism, it’s actually that naturally fits her views, one can wonder why it doesn’t become apparent thing earlier.)
All episodes that provide insight at aforementioned dynamics and unknown ties between characters (Mr Burns surely is recurring star of that season, and his prickly history with titular family goes deeper one could expect): “Mother Simpson”, “…Flying Hellfish” - second one also doubles as episode in genre of “exciting high-stake adventures and investigations of Bart Simpson”, especially prominent in earlier, 1 to 3, seasons, that incidentally treated Abe with due respect and sympathy he re-gain to himself, even if only in the eyes of Bart, in that one.
“Bart on The Road” - all built on established dynamics of characters again, involving and tying together two units: Bart and his friendly circle of misfits (never since being such close together as here), and Homer/Lisa always endearing parent-daughter bond, as different they can be in theory, involved in troublesome adventure and managing to meet ends of it. Additional points to Homer for parental responsibility and quick wits (in expense of plant safety, but at least this time it had external necessity), Lisa really influences him for better.
"Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming", which is, in my opinion, almost serves as literal “last gleaming” to his established personality (as nicely “Brother From Another Series” caps his “arc” and gives brief, but compelling conclusion to his enmity toward Bart, I suspect, if not shout-out to “Frasier”, it could not exist at all…), also, as other things through this season, returning it to its roots from very first appearance - to unfortunate, and too much immersed in vanity and thirst for fame, well-intentioned extremist type, in the same time retaining his quirks, high-brow pretensions and comical pathos (maybe, next time demand marmalade when threatening people with terroristic act, as easy to do it in Springfield?).
Both Lisa-developing episodes (“Iconoclast” and “Vegetarian”), when she stands for her principles, but also learns to be respectful (or, at least, indulgent) to beliefs of other, as far as it doesn’t break up and estranges people. It’s great character growth, no matter again how subsequent additions to franchise stale that development. My personal sympathies go to “Lisa The Vegetarian”, as disproportional retribution of wasting that pig/ruining BBBBQ can be, sentiments of kid having her newfound, yet strong beliefs getting waved off by seemingly the whole world, including her own family, are understandable, and emotional payoff just natural. Plus lot of additional humor: storybook village, family reunion of Flanderseses, even Very Special conclusion with guest stars is ridden with it, and gives some building to upcoming arc of Apu, shading some light on his ways of assimilation. And, naturally, this little arc of Lisa concludes in "Summer of 4 Ft. 2" (I think this video encapsulates its themes perfectly, so I have nothing to say). It’s truly Lisa-shaping season, to think about it! (Poor Bart, to lesser extent, as always, gets his dose of crime-and-punishment treatment, and it’s evident that starting with its season, show starts demeaning him increasingly, sadly, to make better contrast with Lisa, possibly.)
Honorary / “Great and favorite, just not on top” awards (in order of appearance):
    "Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield" - yet another Marge-suffering episode, but with somehow happy (if unacknowledged for Marge, soft version of her own “Summer…”, perhaps) resolution, anyway, I like to see all variations of that Chanel suit on her, proper Marge-service));
"Homer the Smithers" - writers do love Burns/Homer dynamics, not as intense this time, but still with explosive consequences, also another (rare) episode which gives insight of humanity of Smithers and his ever-unfortunate conditions as deadly devoted assistant.
"A Fish Called Selma" - another fulfilling character study, for two characters at once, also giving most noble, empathetic moment to Selma ever.
"22 Short Films About Springfield" - while I can’t say that I like this episode in its entirety (it’s anthology from different writers after all), concept of this one is highly welcomed, and I like when shows using it manage to make the most from it. Some individual sketches are great on their own, aside of obvious contender, I like one of Dr Nick (scenario sort of similar of “Cape Feare” trial scene), Maggie in newspaper vending box and Lisa’s hair saga. (And “Tomfoolery of Professor Frink”, naturally, but I just like anything of Prof. Frink.)
As whole, it’s rather easy to say which episodes I don’t like (not fully dislike, but not ones I would recommend, and prone to rather skip): in this case, it’s "Two Bad Neighbors", rather “teen Simpsons” by spirit.

I'm sad that Bart on the Road didn't get into the top 10, it's my favourite episode of all time. It hits just right for me. That spin-round shot whilst they're driving was amazing, and it has some of the funniest jokes imo not just from the Simpsons but that even rank up there for me when compared to some of my absolute favourite comedy shows like Blackadder goes Forth and The Inbetweeners. I particularly love the credits joke where Marge is just getting all the phone calls from the people Bart has interacted with throughout his journey, that gag never fails to have me in stitches.

Also, I'm sorry, but Lisa The Vegetarian has to be my least favorite episode in the series as a whole. I think it's basically what caused Lisa to go from a heartwarming character that I could actually sympathize for such as episodes like both of the Bleeding Gums Murphy episodes and Lisa's Substitute to the pretentious little shit that we end up getting in the later.
Then again, that's just my opinion.
