  • In Episode 3 of 'Proxima Beyond', we finalize our space explorer, continue salvaging abandoned space vessels. The goal is clear: find an assembler, cargo container, and refinery. These components are essential for crafting ammunition, storing resources, and processing raw materials, setting the stage for future endeavors in the vastness of space.

    As always, thanks for watching and leaving a like!
    I did feel like the "NPC Cooperative Takeover' was a tad too easy - 'Hostile Takeover' was suggested instead, what do you think?
    Suggestions are always welcome, you might spark ideas for future episodes! 😊

      This current takeover mod does seem a little too easy so yeah hostile might be better.

      There is also the hacking computer mod. In my mind that is the most balanced. It randomly picks any block with computers and 'rolls to hack', has to succeed number of times equal to computer in block. You can place it on the grid, connector to grid, or landing gear locked. Depend on how immersive you want to be. Haven't played it on scrapyard so you might have to admin in the block.

    Oh my goodness, you accomplished so much in this episode! So much fun watching you setting up the different ship's AI and having it travel to the "BOO"! The color scheme is really nice. This is great fun!

    I don't know if anyone has mentioned it or not, but you might consider grouping your "braking" thrusters then putting that group on your hot bar. That way you don't have to rely on turning off your dampeners, just turn off the braking thrust until you need to slow down. Saves on fuel and allows a bit better control in the mean time.
    Also, there's a mod call "Camera Panning" that works with any of the plain cameras, allows you to hold 'Alt' key and then you can pan all around (just not backwards) to put it back into default angle just tap 'V' .
    Love this play through, always looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Cheers!

      @Beeblebum  2 місяці тому

      Oh yeah, I only really use the breaking thrust group on planets, as turning of dampeners on planets does not end well, haha.
      In space however, I don't see the need for it.
      Thanks for the suggestion though 😊

    Loving this series man ! as for the nacelle , i know i`m late on this, but an insect-themed name that would`ve fit perfectly perhaps would`ve been ''Chrysalis'' , seeing as you plan on making it ''morph'' into a part of a larger ship , it kinds of fit the theme of a butterfly emerging from a cocoon xD

    Hi! I'm author Grind To Learn 2 and 3. New third version has blueprints. There are also settings that disable Grind-to-learn mode, so you may have only random blueprints scattered all over the spawned ships. Not fully compatible with the Scrapyard - Build Restrictions, but no crashes I hope :)

    • @Beeblebum
      @Beeblebum  3 місяці тому +1

      Hey! Cheers for the info - the plan is to remove the build restriction mod and replace it with Grind to learn. SO there should not be any conflict I hope.
      I assume I should install the Grind to Learn mod first, then start the world, save it with the mod enabled, then remove the Restrictions afterwards. 😊

      @@sovahc I did some testing to be sure this works for the next episodes, but i seem to have an issue.
      With the Srapyard Restricitons still enabled, I can not grind to learn. But if I remove the Building restricitons, I have access to ALL building parts. (neither Grind to learn 2 or 3 work.)
      Do I need to change any other settings or perhaps game files to make it work?

      @@Beeblebum Build restrictions disables blocks by making them “non public”. That’s all. GTL3 is more complicated, and can be configured for example to act as build restrictions and more. With the current GTL you can unlock only public blocks. I know one mod based on controlling public/non public - Schematic Hunter. Not sure if it will work with build restrictions. If you need something special from GTL, I can help with it. It’s easy part.

    I really like this series, the mix of pragmatism and resource gathering is very appealing. However I feel there’s no sense of threat in this series, it’s too easy for you to dodge the turrets and worm your way into the ship and take it over, and once you’ve done that then it’s yours and you’ve got all the things in it. Perhaps there’s a mod that adds actual active factions where if you take down enough ships they send bounty hunters after you and actually try and find your base, and maybe rival scrappers that don’t like that your taking all the good salvage. I think these would really build some strategy and long term thinking to the series. The reason I say this is because I love watching and want to see this series flourish. all the best!

    • @Beeblebum
      @Beeblebum  3 місяці тому

      Yeah, threats should be appearing more and more in the future - Currently only ACS is installed - But I think INCON will join the verse from the next episode.
      The danger of being too much on the offense, with only having a limited possibility to rebuild destroyed blocks is that this could strand me into a situation where the playthrough kind of is broken. So trying to balance it out until I can actually build freely. 😊

    • @dakaodo
      @dakaodo 2 місяці тому

      @mortimeir: There's one MES faction that adds civilian, police, and military factions (Not sure which one. EEM?). The latter two will start to attack you and escalate to actively hunting you as you aggro them by grinding CIV faction ships. HOwever, it's still pretty easy to cheese the aggro b/c it'll reset periodically.
      The same is true of most other MES factions, even aggressive ones like Enhanced Space Pirates, MOD, or the Orks, b/c MES factions are mostly designed by default to pose primarily passive threats to the player. I think this is due to how the player base has evolved -- mostly creative builders and solo sandbox players who like to accumulate stuff, and they hate getting stuff destroyed. So MES by default will not randomly ROFLstomp your base when you're not ready for a fight.
      Also, building bases underground (which Beeblebum isn't doing here) is also a hard counter cheese tactic b/c NPCs are incapable of dealing with really buried bases or ships in caves. (straight tunnels are an exception, b/c they can sometimes line up a shot straight down the tunnel)
      The most reliable way I've found to make any MES NPCs more of a challenge is to 1) limit your total PCUs of ships/bases you build to 50k PCU or less (Most MES factions aren't designed to threaten a player with a 100k PCU ship), and 2) modify the minimum path distance variable in the MES config text files (this is stored in a subfolder in each separate SE save game folder, so it can be different for every save game). For the 2nd option, MES by default will NEVER generate an NPC ship path that comes closer to the player than 2.5 km. This means by default a stationary player will never aggro an NPC ship. Aggro only happens if the player either accidentally or deliberately flies into the NPC ship's path.
      Modifying this variable, however, you can reduce it to any value and increase the chance that NPC ships will actually path close enough to the player to aggro on their own. Set it to something like 1 or 0 if you want to maximize the chance that NPC ships will fly right past or even into the player.
      This way, you have to much more carefully manage your total PCU to limit the MES threat level, stay mobile, and/or hide stashes of starter materials (enough to build a new survival kit and whatever else) at a distance of 5-10 km from your primary base just in case every goes violently pear-shaped.

      @@Beeblebum Rather than moving from the black is it possible to crank up your gamma? UA-cam tends, I have found, to make things much darker so when a player is in a "dungeon" situation (or black space) it can be difficult to make out.
