I adore her. She truly is a national treasure here in the UK. She's of my mother's generation. My mother was Irish and arrived in the UK in the late 50s and befriended so many Egyptians who, like mum, were newcomers to their new country. The Egyptian Jewish and extended Middle Eastern Jewish diaspora hold onto an incredible history of cultural survival against the odds. They have prevailed and suffered in equal measure. I just love that Claudia Roden is one of the movers and shakers who brought to our tables, on the daily, glorious Levantine/Ottoman/Middle Eastern food, which is, hands down, the most glorious food in the world. And I could listen to her talk for hours!
