This has me thinking...for all his flaws, Zanec was probably the best choice as an heir, at least under normal circumstances. He lacked the ignorance of his elder brother and the two-faced sociopathic nature of his sister. Even if he might come off as arrogant. He was smart enough to ally himself to Marquise Raven. He was brave enough to not only depose his father, but also to meet the enemy King, a man described by many as a true monster, to bargain for his and his kingdoms live. His brother wouldn't have done that. His sister was secretly cooperating with the enemy. He was the best King the Kingdom could have asked for after his father became little more then a shadow of his former self.
@Trollnix I must revise my last statement. Phillip-kaka would have obviously made for the best King! He could have saved the world from the clutches of Nazarick if it wasn't for Zanac!
Zannac was a real man, He looked death straight in the face and instead of begging or crying he rode back to his men and prepared for his end with dignity
A bit of inaccuracy. The nobles didn't even have the balls to kill Zanec. It was sort of implied that they got the mercenaries to kill him because they chickened out. Even with their superior numbers.
It feels so weird going from disliking a character when they're first introduced to actually admiring them a lot by the end. Zanec turned out the be a better ruler and more of a man than his father and brother ever were. Its weird but I thin under different circumstances and without Nazarick, Ainz and Zanec could've actually been good friends were they somehow able to meet in, say, the side story.
@@theprettypetard2524 Yeah, knowing the NPC they will probably enslaved the human and all the demihuman. With only Pestonya, Sebas, and Nigredo try to lessen the suffering, but as they are all ordered to follow Albedo without Supreme being order, they basically powerless even more than in canon.
Zanac was so impressive to Ainz that he ordered Albedo to give his body a "Dignified Burial" as far as i know only one to ever get that much respect from Ainz was Gazef (i'm sure if he hasn't returned the corpse to the Kingdom he would've ordered for him to have a proper burial as well to honor his wishes) and to be honest i can see why, Zanac didn't let his emotions get the best of him, sought out the best possible outcome for his people and right till the very end seeing he couldn't avoid the doom of his country, managed to convince Ainz of at least giving the Kingdom a "Swift & Mercyful End" something that AINZ HAD AGREED TO...but god the Re-Estize Nobles in their vast mayority are all Philips to the end aren't they?
Actually, if you read vol.7 to the end (Entoma reporting to Ainz, what has been done to the corpses of the workers) you'll be amazed by what "proper burial" really means in Nazarick ;)
@Nas to be honest that's one of the few moral things in Nazarick I can agree with. If your gonna be a dick and kill people using all the bits is more respectful than leaving shit behind especially if your a predator cause it symbolises that you did not waste the persons life. It's gruesome but from the perspective of predators Ainz is teaching his children good manners.
@@risha43 Never understood Ainz's sense of respect. He is not a warrior, so I don't understand why he respects Gazef, who still chooses honor in the life of many. He respects Zanak, who recently became king and didn't do anything amazing. Enri, on the other hand, is in the same situation as Ainz but she managed to do it. She has no reason to respect Zanak. He talks a lot about friendship and how he misses his friends but he tortures those people who have shown that same feeling that is emphasized in the character. At least Cocytus is consistent. Following, I believe, the sense of the samurai warrior (he respects orders but also the courage of warriors), he goes against orders out of respect for the Lizardmen.
@@TermInator-np6vw Ainz kinda likes the eyes of the people who stand brave in the face of death, like- Gazef vs. White scripture Tsuare almost getting her head blown by Sebas Gazef vs. Young Ones Gazef vs. Ainz Martial Lord vs. Ainz Neia fighting Jaldabaoth's army Zanac(leading his poor army) vs. Ainz(leading death's army) Climb vs. Ainz These are a few examples shown in the light novel, but for those cowards who run or try to push their subordinates ahead, like the Giant of the East and Grand King Buser, they're true trash, not worthy of his respect. Clementine is the only exception, coz Ainz was satisfied with the intel he gathered during their fight.
@@risha43 So it is strange that he continued to treat and think badly of the Foresight. Hekkeran sacrificed himself for Imina while she and Roberdick decided to take time for one of their mates.
When I first watched overlord I honestly thought he was the bad guy when he was first introduced. Second son scheming for the throne because he wants power, being overweight means overindulgence and the count being introduced as a opportunist.
"He was more human than I thought." Zanac came closer than anyone else in the NW to seeing the man Ainz once was. One point of correction (which others may have pointed out already) - Zanac didn't have Razor Edge. Brain had it at this time. Zanac DID have the other Royal Treasures equipped like the Guardian Armor.
@@arturarruda8151 Imagine bringing your familie there, only to find out that your 4-14 Year old Kids are getting their nails ripped out, and getting kidney stones along with yourself. Holy Shit.
When Ainz-sama was gifted Zanacs head by the traitors, he respected him enough to give him a proper burial. Ainz-sama even when he is doing such horrorible things is a respectable and magnanomus man.
Zanac did not deserve a death like that, he was actually such a well-written character. At least Ainz avenged him, even if indirectly, and his vengeance is eternal.
It's a running theme in Overlord that nobody gets the death they "deserve". Plenty of good and noble characters die with little dignity or fanfare. Zanac was actually one of the luckier ones in this respect - he got to go down swinging and made a final badass boast.
From the NPCs' perspective, Zanac's death was well deserved, which after his head was brought to Ainz by his own men, and further more Ainz in his mercy orders for Zanac to be given a proper burial, which in Nazarick: is to put every piece of the corpse to good use (like what happened to the workers which Entoma reported to Ainz in the end of vol.7 "The head was given to a Silk Hat Demon. The arms were split between the Deadman Strugglers, etc.."), and then vanquish the entire army within an hour, I'd say that was the best end for an inferior life form who dared challenge the Supreme Overlord in a battle of wits so far. Of course, Ainz' human side might've wanted to honor Zanac with a real proper burial and have forgotten the workers entirely..
@@risha43 Eh, I think they were aware he wanted Zanac's body to be treated with respect. There aren't many other ways to interpret "proper burial". As for Arche...remember that he never promised that her body would be buried. Only that she would die painlessly.
@@mjuang84 the NPCs take every word Ainz speaks as divine revelations (even if he said Black is White, then it must be white), then if you read Entoma's report at the end of vol.7 and Albedo's reaction to Ainz' "magnanimous mercy", you might understand what I'm trying to say.. Ainz even replies that it's not "mercy", but a hunter's way of respecting the prey or something like that..
My only regrets when reading this Volume: The off-screen segments, both of the war as well as Philips' end (thought then again, leaving that to one's imagination can also be fun)
Me haven't watched the show: meh just a 3rd- rate-villain of a prince calls his sister a monster out of jealously. Me after watching: Dang what a wise man. He was right after all. The Marquis is a good character too.
Zanac was a very decent guy and a good king, you could see clearly that Ainz was angry at he being beheaded so soon after meeting him. It's like he can't have nice things XD he rarely meets someone that interests him and then he can't keep them.
I don't remember where I read this, but apparently the author said the prince, the Marquis and the princess would have been able to stave of the Empire, if the first Prince did not get the throne.
Zanac is high on my list of "characters I never expected to like". He's a flawed man with few scruples but who is genuinely concerned for the wellbeing of his country and the people he serves. He's incredibly perceptive and insightful and tries to keep casualties to a minimum, even if he is cruel about it. Better to be mean than a murderer. I was genuinely sad to learn that he dies.
You know... I wonder how much of this could've been avoided had the king personally thanked Ainz publicly for saving Gazef and the village as he said in season one of the anime. Would also make for a fun, if speculative, What If scenario. I believe that Ainz would've crushed the Fingers, then quelled the unruly noble factions for his new allies. I'm pretty sure the Empire situation would've unfolded more or less the same with the exception of Splat... which would instead be the Kingdom, Empire, and Nazarick vs the Slane Theocracy. Also, has anyone else noticed that the Overlord world map is basically just a map of the Middle East? I mean... Nazarick is basically smack dab where Bagdad would be.
@@deveshnaik7919 about Nazarick being located at Bagdad and the map being nearly identical to the Middle East, or that much bloodshed could've been avoided had the king publicly thanked and rewarded Ainz?
ainz was preaty impresed about his composture when negotiating soo when he was killed in sutch a misrable way he got mad and ordered to give him a proper burial.
you have to remember that the Second Prince think of his own Sister as a Monster. when he say the Azin Ooal Gown, the Undead king, was Human, he wasnt kidding.
I loved the part where PDL acted against Ainz and I read and thought, oof a real challenge for Ainz. Nope, everything was a part of the plan and it was hilarious
@tiglath pileser yeah pandoras actor copies ainz-sama at 80% power level also PA was holding back trying to pump info out of the paladin dragon puppet a serious ainz with his staff and world item is WRECKING the paladin dragon
Zanac may not have been anyone's idea of perfect but he did the best he could with what he had to work with. He worked with Marquis Raven, arguably the most (only) competent noble and with Renner whose genius was invaluable and all she really wanted in return was Climb, he displayed bravery and personal virtue when he joined the battle against Jaldabaoth's demon army (mostly to boost morale but at least he was there, unlike Barbro). Zanac recognized that his father had aged and was simply unfit to rule anymore (Ramposa was a good man but was too weak a king to reign in the nobles and act decisively), and although he usurped his father, he did try a serious attempt at negotiation and all but begged Ainz to spare the capital. He prepared the army for a desperate battle knowing the cost would be extremely high even if they could win (no, they couldn't). In spite of everything, Zanac acted the part of a true leader when the situation was dire and hopelessly outmatched by a foe he knew he could never defeat. He was able to gain Ainz's respect if nothing else and that does speak to his character, his death was tragic and only made things worse for Re-Estize. RIP Zanac. Re-Estize was a rotten kingdom with self-serving nobles and corruption everywhere, Eight Fingers ruled the criminal underworld and held great influence within the kingdom and both the Empire and Theocracy were disgusted by the kingdom's rotten state. Re-Estize was destined to fail with or without Nazarick. Maybe if Renner took the throne and simply killed all the nobles, then maybe she might have turned things around, that's about what it would take to save the kingdom. Ainz could have gone about this a better way as PDL opined but the point was to display the power of Nazarick and warn any foe of the consequences of challenging the Sorcerer Kingdom. Certainly... after this war, everyone will be very wary of Nazarick's power... but they will also see Ainz as a villain whom is too dangerous to exist. This may end up uniting people against Nazarick and Jircniv who had previously given up on fighting Ainz will be horrified at what happened to the kingdom and might be end up having second thoughts about the Empire's submission to Nazarick.
jircniv would will deffinitly be horrified but in a way also relived that he made the right choice he long have understood the price he will have to pay if he stood up against ainz but im not sure he understood the totality of said price now the consequence of such action has been shown to him without a doubt baharuth would end up the same way if he had not bend the knee. Ainz messge to the world is the tale of 2 kingdoms one that submit and cooperate and another that resist and challange him one gets the protection and prosperity another get total annihilation since his power is so ridiculous by the new world standard a bunch of nation like re estize grouping up togeather will provide him no challange what so ever. Chances are most would rather be like baharuth then to end up like Re Estize jircniv now having seen the actul price of betrayal that probally exceed his already considerable estimation without actully having to pay it and having enjoyed the fruits of submision would not have to think hard which he rather prefer total annihilation or prosperity how is that even a choice.
And the craziest thing is, almost everyone was baffled at how this started because no one could understand the level of stupidity that it would take to antagonize the SK.
I don’t know, renners actions truly do show what one is willing to sacrifice in order to satisfy a primal need. Yet, she’s still fears for herself when confronted by higher beings.
Razors Edge was not present in this battle. Since it was still in the capital in Brains possession. In the end Brain gave it back to Princess Renna and she use it to kill her father.
[ SPOILER ALERT ] In the epilogue of vol.13 Ainz tells Shizu that he'll give her alot of free time to visit Neia and "play" Then in vol.14, Ainz while taking a stroll with PA and Narberal, thinks about why she's not interested in Yuri's workplace, during which Ainz indicates that Shizu and Entoma have workplaces too Ainz not having received a [message] from Entoma for more than a year, can mean that she -like Shizu- is abroad on a mission Now if we took the "Pleiades Day" side story, and considered Shizu's wish to have a cute pet to have been accomplished by making Neia her friend, then for Ainz to grant Entoma's wish of having a territory where she can weave spider webs to hunt, Aaand, to avenge her loss against BlueRose, Perhaps the ruined country they're making their escape to, is Entoma's new territory which will give them the good end they deserve as Maruyama mentions in the afterword But that remains a theory until Maruyama bestows upon us vol.15, a side story, or atleast hints that it happened -like the Draconic Kingdom or tira..

Zanac didn't have "Razor's Edge" at the time, it was still in the possession of Brain Unglaus at the time, and Zanac was still lamenting how he still couldn't get Brain to join him.
I find it makes no sense for both of us. For him it would have been logical to show respect for Sword of darkness (because they were who Ainz wanted to be, that is adventurers) and Foresight (for their deep camaraderie) but Gazef and Zanak had done nothing to deserve it.
@@TermInator-np6vw Gazef a warrior whom stand strongly with his belief and duty that remind him like his own friend touch me and Zanak whom someone that trying his hardest to fulfill his duty that is save his kingdom from painful doom even though it's inevitable? sword of darkness already avenged by killing clementine and the old guy and remember the foresight and worker already found big treasure in front of nazarick tomb but still trying their luck inside nazarick and not only that they tried something unforgiveable for ainz that is to use ainz guild member name for their own safety.
@@null8036 - I don't remember touch me ever showing character sides. Could you tell me where they are said? Ainz admired Gazef for determination and willpower and courage; v.1 ch.4 part3; He admired Gazef’s determination, his strength of will that he did not have. V2 ch3 part3; And then he recalled the brave man he had encountered recently - Gazef Stronoff, the Kingdom's Warrior Captain. * but also foresight shows this type of character, all to protect a partner but ainz doesn't seem to give a damn. Gazef on the other hand was there to do his duty. In fact, as a warrior in the direct service of the king, a failure, according to what can be deduced from the discourse between gazef and ainz in volume 9 before the "duel", could have been a shame for the king. In short, Gazef dies of blind faith but without a real motivation. He dies knowing he is dying. Different is Foresight who decide to sacrifice themselves for a goal but without thinking "why must she save herself and we must stay here to die?" , which ainz also points out when he tells them; v.7 ch4 part 1; "However, it's quite remarkable that you decided it without fighting with each other. I thought I would see your disgusting true selves on display here. " * In short, they show courage, will and determination. - Zanac, on the other hand, was a type placed on the throne by compulsion. If so little is enough to impress ainz, why doesn't he give a damn about many others around, like Enri who manages to run the village on his own, in a situation similar to his? - I know that ainz avenges them but my point was to write possible people that I think he should have respected. - It's bullshit about the treasure. In fact, ainz has no reason to donate gold to strangers, especially considering that in the previous volume, after he hears that the theft of precious objects from the re estize kingdom has auvto success, he feels reassured. Furthermore, if he did, there is precisely the risk that someone, or worse, all the workers would abandon the mission and at that point albedo and demiurge would ask questions. Also in a tweet (which I put at the end of the comment), the author said that one of the things to do to stay alive was not to touch any coins. In my opinion that gold is there for two reasons. Either it serves to attract even more or better yet, it's there for decoration. In fact, there are also decorated flags in the tombs with gold. - Regarding the lie, I always thought it was absurd as a situation. 1) It was only one member of the group who told that lie. 2) Ainz and demiurge use the tomb for a political purpose, tarnishing the name of the place, like a politician who uses a temple or a church for his political campaign. For the workers it was just the opportunity of a lifetime. They certainly didn't think they were invading someone's property, unlike jircniv. 3) Regarding the lie, I would like to tell you to go and read that part (v.7 ch4 part 1) and you will realize that hekkeran had no reason to lie because Aiz does not talk about his friends right away but could continue to tell the truth, that is, that they were sent to explore a newly discovered ruin. . In fact ainz accuses them of greed and tells them that they are not forced to enter (like the elves) they have convincing reasons to do so (like the group) and hekkeran tries to say their reasons but ainz interrupts him saying "don't bother me with yours lies ". So why tell a lie based on nothing. If he wanted to buy time he could just say "why do you think I'm lying?" or "it's not a lie. I'm just answering your statement."

In fact ainz does not speak of his friends when hekekran lies and therefore he could not imagine that there could be someone who had a similar authority to that of ainz. In fact at a certain point ainz says the word "friends" and the narrator says "Friends, a new word". - The second part is totally illegible. Correct it and use more commas and punctuation.
Ainz is incredible , he started a war and came as a savior for the holy kingdom so he could supply them with humanitarian resources , all of this was planned the moment he met Philip , he knew a stupid soul like him would dare to challenge him , and he planned all along to use this moment to set the kingdom as an example . The genius has now ruined the image he tried to keep beautiful in previous volumes. Moreover, he must now take care of the territory of Re estize, or rather, it is Albedo and Demiurge who have to do it.
I felt nothing for the little thief because she had options like serving a great noble with he 3tier prowess. She could have done a 180 on her parents by robbing thier rich home with help of her group and take away her sisters. Ask the Emperor to give her power over the domain in exchange for her loyalty and service. Heck even not be so greedy by entering the tomb after the first fortune gathering. Gold the great fever. Zanac between a rock and a hard place so he did his duty and we cannot ask more of him. The nobles were all hypocrites and the Kingdom was doomed way before Ainz. The ST wanted to Invade if they wanted the chief warrior dead. The Empire would have joined them if asked also.
zanac had one chance to save the kingdom from it's faith and he missed it. if he objected his father's descision to save philip and overthrew him to give philip's head before the war begun he could have potentially avoided the whole thing but he waited for to long to overthrow him. that would have shown that the kingdom was bowing hard to ainz instead of trying to remain independent with the offering of the king's head.
Apparently Arche was Fluders disciple who had ran away from him for reasons that was never explained at least to my memory. In Fluders inner monologue we see that even after years has past he still misses her as she was said to to be extremely talented as she was quite young and was a third level wizard. At the very least Arche could have been Fluder's assistant and later to be a teacher at the academy. The question is "Did Arche know what Fluder thought of her? Then, another question: if Fluder held her so much in consideration, why did he never find her? Did he have a lot of resources to do it. Or is this a point written a little badly by the author or in Fluder it didn't matter too much to her. Was baited, essentially. PDL fought in his remote-control armor against Pandora's Actor (as Ainz), with PA explicitly told to hold back to a significant degree. PDL put up a good fight against this Pandora's Actor but ultimately was unable to deal any significant or fatal blows. Before the fight Albedo was lured out by an Adamantite Adventurer with a Gundam, however said adventurer had no chance against her. Albedo ended the PDL vs PA (as Ainz) fight by overpowering PDL. PDL concludes that Ainz (really an holding-back PA) can be defeated by him in person (as a dragon), and that Ainz is probably an NPC and Albedo is the player. It is revealed that Ainz' world item (the red orb in his abdomen) has Anti-dragon properties. PDL himself reveals that he has natural anti-undead properties. That sets both of them against eachother nicely.
The nobles were already frowning on Gazef. If he had joined Ainz the nobles would have had only one motivation to point the finger at the king. Perhaps Ainz, at Gazef's request, would have saved the ruler during the events of volume 14 or could have convinced Ramp. to become a puppet king, following Nazarick's instructions and then try to make his kingdom a vassal state.

After Ashi death in the anime, I've stopped caring for the other characters and just want everyone teamed-wiped and Zanec was just another cobble stone in Ainz march to greatness.
I felt like I was reading plot synopsis of a trilogy when I read volume 14 its got a few well written and long segments but everything else is about telling about events that the author decided to off screen. Here are some for those who are interested: - Renner apparently had to kill off the oprhans or it is at least hinted it to have happened we don't know because that too was off screened. - She also apparently then transforms into a demoness and uses her newfound strength to stab her father through the back with Gazefs former sword. Once again the scene in question off screened. - The battle where the floor guardians are told to unleash their full might on the Re-Estize kingdoms last stand of 400, 000 soldier you guessed it. Off screened. - What about when Ainz recruited the Blue Roses assassin twins big sister and her entire organization to their side. Can't say it was off screened. - Brain never mentions that he has met Shalltear and Sebas several times and the latter said he would some day return the favor to him after helping out save Tsuare. He is cut down immidiattely as the fight starts. Gets cool ice tomb burial and Cocytus takes his sword as a memento though for showing a courage of a true warrior. So props for not running away from the fight ...I guess?. All in all very difficult in finding positive to say about the volume in question. I've heard that the author was upset because the editor in question did not like the idea of killing Blue Roses off in this volume and has been saying that he just wants to stop writing all together and maybe off screen couple kingdoms because he just can't put himself to write about it anylonger. Which clearly shows in his writing it is lazy summary of events taking place instead of PoV instances of events taking place and characters reacting to it.
On the off-screen fight with the kingdoms 400k army, it can be said that it was skipped for a reason. Unlike the earlier major battle in the Katze Plains this fight had no "intimidation" factor. The goal was entirely to kill the Kingdom's army, unlike in the Katze plains wherein there were multiple objectives: Intimidate Empire, lure out brainwashers, gain E-Rantel. There was no point to show this completely one-sided battle, especially since no one would be left alive to tell the tale.

I remember reading over that part many times when he is killed the events afterwords...... and my hunch was right about him begin a person who actually cared about the kingdom I mean be brother just wanted to seat ok the throne was willing to kill him and was planning to purge everyone else. As for his sister she did not care about the kingdom or for that matter anyone and she has to be one of the most twisted begins ever I mean she a person who would commit the holocaust with a smile on her face and she killed her own father and condemned eight million people to death. On top of caring he also done the so far impossible brought our aniz humanity even thought sadly it only lasted a moment he did bring it out and even the possibility of preventing more deaths yet it did not bear fruit do to the nobels...... And onto them of there sheer stupidity and actions first off they only ask to save themselves and there family's nothing about the populations of there domains they where willing to first kill there king then leave behind a untold number of people to the monsters. It show in the end the reason why the kingdom fall of the actions of a few that put no thought into the end result I mean they thought killing him would save them? What do they have to offer gold? The aniz kingdom has more then any other creature live or dead of the new world that there no need for it. There lands where already going to be conquer another matter they had nothing to offer no special talents no abilities nothing they believe that just the word nobel make them above everything and the world would obey there words........ yet in the end they learn that it just a word if you have absolutely nothing to back it up just like the first prince.
The fools. Those poor... deluded... fools... They were doomed the instant they turned their weapons against Zanec and didn't even see it coming to them.
Zanec may not have been likeable but had he survived he would have been a formidable and loyal vassal to ains just by virtue of his common sense and compassion for those he protected as his subject. It's a pity that ains had arbitrarily on a whim decided to corner the entire country without understanding merits of absorbing the leader into his fold and grand vision. Forcing the death sentence upon the entire nation with no room for surrender or servitude essentially brought out the worst intents in the nobility and led indirectly to the death of a man who earned ains fickle respect and would have been worthy of serving ains as one of his most competent vassal. I think this arc could have been written better as it simply shows how close minded and fallible ains was as someone leading an army that couldn't be defeated by the ordinary humans of the land.
Yeah right ! Ainz is a tyrant , for having been forced to such solutions. PDL and his family did such a stellar job after all... Come off it. PDL attacked out of fear. fear ainz would eradicate humans. No humans no souls to fuel his magic. No extended life for him. He'd do better to take his grudge up with his daddy, The Dragon Emperor. Its his doing Yggdrasil players keep ending up on his world. Though.. i think this will be the last. He found what he was looking for.
i hope there is no some kind of tomb suddenly emerge in north/south pole, amazon rainforest, sahara desert, or anywhere in earth. because if so, damn man we're doomed
Genocide isn't exactly a good look for Ainz. Men, women, and children, families, innocents, 8 million in total, all dead and many tortured because he wants a 10,000 year peace? Isn't that exactly how the Holocaust was justified? Pretty sure Ainz is most definitely the villain, even with his excuse for genocide. I argue it begun when he attacked the religious kingdom and brutalized their queen. It's tacky, self-glorifying, and morally bankrupt. I kinda dropped the series after that volume where the queen got brutalized by Demiurge and their kingdom was invaded by man-eating beastmen who flayed peasants, where Ainz pretended to be their savior. I just read the summaries now. Good riddance it's ending soon. I'll miss the characters, but not that much.
@Kabcr1 "Genocide isn't exactly a good look for Ainz. Men, women, and children, families, innocents, 8 million in total, all dead and many tortured because he wants a 10,000 year peace? Isn't that exactly how the Holocaust was justified?" to be fair that's not uncommon in the new world, several nations set their eyes on the kingdom , and were planning its downfall. and the king openly defended philip and refused to give philp to nazzrick , and would rather try to fight the nazzrick and risk countless lives of civilians to protect a complete idiot just because of his noble blood.
philip rob SK humanitarian food > Albedo & Demiurge Scheme Fail > Ainz Explain that there are stupid nobles > Ainz let Demiurge initiate Carrot & Stick: Stick part to re-estize > albedo come as diplomat to send message > zanac advised to rampossa to sacrifice philip since he is the culprit of the robbery > rampossa reject and offer his head instead > SK reject that > Zanac depose his father > Zanac negotiate with ainz and begged to him to at least spare the people of re-estize kingdom > The corrupt nobles do the unthinkable once again, that is killing zanac > ainz conclude that there is no hope for re-estize and proceed the Carrot & Stick: Stick part on Re-Estize > Kingdom of Re-Estize doomed The excuse ain't 10,000 years apart even though it's within the plan but the cause behind this are phillip foolish action and Rampossa Stubborn on protecting his corrupt nobles. The original plan involve a civil war where SK will come as saviour to Re-Estize but cause of phillip action the plan was doomed and with rampossa action making it clear that Re-Estize kinda 'humiliate' SK. Zanac try his best begging for his people lives and ainz consider it but after the betrayal of corrupt nobles killing zanac, they seal their kingdom + people death warrant. there is no 10,000 years peace, there is no holocause nazi-style where they kill all a group of people, it is just a side-effect of badly handled politic started by the re-estize kingdom itself. the people of re-estize kingdom are unlucky to have nobles full of corrupt & stupid people but they are still lead by those corrupt people so SK need to put example to what happen to let corrupt people become the government and also making example to DO NOT MESS WITH SK.
I think as time goes, I feel Ainz is maybe...too....powerful. There isn't a sense of struggle when he isn't faced with one of his own. I get it, he's supposed to be godly powerful, but even his servants and soldiers are shockingly overpowered, such that even if we saw a clash, it almost isn't worth watching, because who wants to watch slaughter number 72? If the secret alliance could harm Ainz, with heroes to match..it'd be more interesting.
Pretty sure that is the point of the overall story though, to show a foreign and overwhelming force suddenly appearing and how the natives react to it. This series isn't about DBZ grudge match or beam struggle, but about world building and character growth (for side characters). Usually the protagonist need to change and grow as they try to find their way through the "main antagonist/conflict/struggle" but in this case the protagonist *IS* the conflict, and the world must adapt around him. Ainz *IS* the immovable obstacle, he *IS* the ultimate villain of the story that everyone need to overcome/adapt to. Part of it is to also highlight the difference of placing a video games character into a realistic high fantasy setting and show how absurdly overpowered they are in comparison. Like, video games characters kill gods and destroyers of worlds without batting an eye, then you put the same character in something like D&D? Yeah.
I think that's not the focus of the story anyway. For me, where Overlord shines is in its world building and characters. Its plot can be amusing at times, but it's how the characters react to the plot and what new things become uncovered is what makes the story great. I consider Overlord a flat character arc story, and as that, it is quite the gem
Lol, I wrote this about 2/3 in and right when I resumed the video, you said pretty much what I was just saying :'D
@Trollnix I must revise my last statement. Phillip-kaka would have obviously made for the best King! He could have saved the world from the clutches of Nazarick if it wasn't for Zanac!
Zannac was a real man, He looked death straight in the face and instead of begging or crying he rode back to his men and prepared for his end with dignity
.... He was... He was........
A bit of inaccuracy. The nobles didn't even have the balls to kill Zanec. It was sort of implied that they got the mercenaries to kill him because they chickened out. Even with their superior numbers.
Yes, Zanac even called them out for not having the guts to kill him themselves
u need to listen again. He says this in round about way. He says even though they werent willing to fight or something like that.
Also he did not have Razor Edge
Lol he dead
It feels so weird going from disliking a character when they're first introduced to actually admiring them a lot by the end. Zanec turned out the be a better ruler and more of a man than his father and brother ever were. Its weird but I thin under different circumstances and without Nazarick, Ainz and Zanec could've actually been good friends were they somehow able to meet in, say, the side story.
pretty sure the spin off has nazarick destroying 3 kingdom before ainz even hear about it sooo ain't looking to good for that timeline.
Even better than Renner
@@theprettypetard2524 Yeah, knowing the NPC they will probably enslaved the human and all the demihuman. With only Pestonya, Sebas, and Nigredo try to lessen the suffering, but as they are all ordered to follow Albedo without Supreme being order, they basically powerless even more than in canon.
probobly theyll be like jircniv and piyuro
I agree zanac ain’t have no love loss his only regret was he didn’t meet him sooner. I fucked with him. R.I.P
@@TermInator-np6vw Ainz kinda likes the eyes of the people who stand brave in the face of death, like-
Gazef vs. White scripture

Gazef vs. Young Ones
Gazef vs. Ainz
Martial Lord vs. Ainz
Neia fighting Jaldabaoth's army
Zanac(leading his poor army) vs. Ainz(leading death's army)
Climb vs. Ainz
These are a few examples shown in the light novel, but for those cowards who run or try to push their subordinates ahead, like the Giant of the East and Grand King Buser, they're true trash, not worthy of his respect.
Overlord does complex characters so dang well. Zanec deserved better.
When I first watched overlord I honestly thought he was the bad guy when he was first introduced. Second son scheming for the throne because he wants power, being overweight means overindulgence and the count being introduced as a opportunist.
The characters are so multi dimensional. Zanac was not a bad person he was just related to a complete sociopath. That's what makes him a true king.
alot of dead characters deserved better
"He was more human than I thought."
Zanac came closer than anyone else in the NW to seeing the man Ainz once was.
One point of correction (which others may have pointed out already) - Zanac didn't have Razor Edge. Brain had it at this time. Zanac DID have the other Royal Treasures equipped like the Guardian Armor.

Ainz even honores Zanack with a burial.

Ainz even replies that it's not "mercy", but a hunter's way of respecting the prey or something like that..

My only regrets when reading this Volume: The off-screen segments, both of the war as well as Philips' end (thought then again, leaving that to one's imagination can also be fun)
Perhaps he was dragged back to Nazarick and introduced to all of the five worst.
I thought I was the only one who thought that.

Being a genius but mad doesn't mean a great ruler and so zenac is better than renner
Nope Jircniv will stay loyal.
jircniv would will deffinitly be horrified but in a way also relived that he made the right choice he long have understood the price he will have to pay if he stood up against ainz but im not sure he understood the totality of said price now the consequence of such action has been shown to him without a doubt baharuth would end up the same way if he had not bend the knee.

Then in vol.14, Ainz while taking a stroll with PA and Narberal, thinks about why she's not interested in Yuri's workplace, during which Ainz indicates that Shizu and Entoma have workplaces too
Ainz not having received a [message] from Entoma for more than a year, can mean that she -like Shizu- is abroad on a mission
Now if we took the "Pleiades Day" side story, and considered Shizu's wish to have a cute pet to have been accomplished by making Neia her friend, then for Ainz to grant Entoma's wish of having a territory where she can weave spider webs to hunt, Aaand, to avenge her loss against BlueRose,
Perhaps the ruined country they're making their escape to, is Entoma's new territory which will give them the good end they deserve as Maruyama mentions in the afterword

- I don't remember touch me ever showing character sides. Could you tell me where they are said? Ainz admired Gazef for determination and willpower and courage;
v.1 ch.4 part3;
He admired Gazef’s determination, his strength of will that he did not have.
V2 ch3 part3;
And then he recalled the brave man he had encountered recently - Gazef Stronoff, the Kingdom's Warrior Captain.
* but also foresight shows this type of character, all to protect a partner but ainz doesn't seem to give a damn. Gazef on the other hand was there to do his duty. In fact, as a warrior in the direct service of the king, a failure, according to what can be deduced from the discourse between gazef and ainz in volume 9 before the "duel", could have been a shame for the king. In short, Gazef dies of blind faith but without a real motivation. He dies knowing he is dying. Different is Foresight who decide to sacrifice themselves for a goal but without thinking "why must she save herself and we must stay here to die?" , which ainz also points out when he tells them;
v.7 ch4 part 1;
"However, it's quite remarkable that you decided it without fighting with each other. I thought I would see your disgusting true selves on display here. "
* In short, they show courage, will and determination.

@@null8036 - As I said in my comment, Hekkeran has no reason to lie, both because basically the lie was easy to discover, and because he wanted to use it to buy time and find a way out but at this point he could continue trying to say the truth to ainz, as he tried to do when aizn accused them of being there out of greed. In fact ainz does not speak of his friends when hekekran lies and therefore he could not imagine that there could be someone who had a similar authority to that of ainz. In fact at a certain point ainz says the word "friends" and the narrator says "Friends, a new word".

Ainz is incredible , he started a war and came as a savior for the holy kingdom so he could supply them with humanitarian resources , all of this was planned the moment he met Philip , he knew a stupid soul like him would dare to challenge him , and he planned all along to use this moment to set the kingdom as an example . zanac had one chance to save the kingdom from it's faith and he missed it. if he objected his father's descision to save philip and overthrew him to give philip's head before the war begun he could have potentially avoided the whole thing but he waited for to long to overthrow him. that would have shown that the kingdom was bowing hard to ainz instead of trying to remain independent with the offering of the king's head.
Apparently Arche was Fluders disciple who had ran away from him for reasons that was never explained at least to my memory. In Fluders inner monologue we see that even after years has past he still misses her as she was said to to be extremely talented as she was quite young and was a third level wizard. Found it quite amusing that the #2 guy in the empire wants to help you out and then the author explains that the girl has to go to raid nazarick because he is out of cash. Some times I do wonder what is going on Maruyamas head : D
@@juusovuolle8251 if i recall correctly arche ran away due to the situation with her family and while fluder does miss her a bit it didn't seem enough to make him go out of his way to look for her. the guy is/was also kinda busy it seems. he may also have tried and failed to get her back if it is years allready wich would explain why there is no further attempt.
DP2495567 First you say that stealing is wrong and then you say you do it?
If the emperor had given Arche some charge, some other nobleman might have thought he was doing favoritism. Then, the job was to explore the tomb while the recovery of the treasures served to obtain an extra reward. If Arche had been greedy she would have kept the rewards higher precedents for herself, instead (stupidly I would add) gave her to try to save her family.
@@elias2054 well i dont recal it being said in the novels but i think she was aware tha she was one of fluders favorites, cause she is a 3 tier mage at yong age and has the same inate talent tha fluder has, the ability to see others mana that said i dont think fluder had the time ou intencion to "help" her, he at most would give her some money to live whit her sisters
Prince Zanec was one of my best characters.
it would be fun to watch a fight between a dragon specialized in fighting the undead and a undead that has a specialization with fighting undead( Platinum dragon lord being platinum and Momonga with the red orb item below his chest)
The red orb dont do much
Then you realize Gazeff died for nothing. He sacrificed his life for his kingdom to be spared. Only for a DUMB noble to doom everyone.
To be fair, literally no one can predict the actions of an idiot on the level of Philip.
@@SnowyWolborg But it was foreseeable that the kingdom would collapse sooner or later. If Ainz had waited for this event, he could have done what Jircniv wanted to do, which is to arrive as a hero.
In Philip's case, he could simply take him and torture him in public, to demonstrate what happens to those who turn against him, something already seen in the Katze plan.
@@TermInator-np6vw yeah but rampossa reject that proposal to sacrifice any nobleman to sorcerer kingdom thus lead the war. simply take him and torture him only make it worse to him since he techincally kidnapping other kingdom nobleman without any approval from the said kingdom.

@@TermInator-np6vw yeah but he didn't think that giving an literal old man head that probably will die anytime soon for philip crime will become humiliation for the SK instead of sign of remorse.
the problem with him giving his head is it only resolved the problem inside re-estize but from the outside perspective, re-estize kingdom doesn't take SK seriously and instead of giving the cuplrit head they give an old king head that can die anytime soon and will be replace by his son. the matter of philip was charmed or not is an internal problem within kindgom re-estize. they should handle this more carefully instead giving old man head
This death is sad but also funny because the people just assumed ainz was angry and killed the king without actually talking it out
7:04 yeah what a "life" awaits then but its still well deserved one. Also Rest in peace Zanack at least you got the respect of Ainz-sama and the honour of a burial as well as indirect revenge for your death.
i really want to see sobin sama drew the outcome of the capital so we can really see the destruction made by the invasion
Ummm..... If I remember correctly those nobles who killed zanak were sent to kyuhuko or someone else from the worst 5?
I just don't understand that when Ramposa III himself offered his head to avoid the war and got rejected, how the hell nobles thought and hoped that delivering Zanac's head would result otherwise.
As someone else said, it's just fear and desperation.
PDL made his move! Hehehe any idea what kind of move it is? Anyone!! Thanks
Is there an 'alternate history' version for overlord? Such as if Gazef Stronoff took Aiz's offer to join him what would have happened to the kingdom?
The nobles were already frowning on Gazef. If he had joined Ainz the nobles would have had only one motivation to point the finger at the king. Perhaps Ainz, at Gazef's request, would have saved the ruler during the events of volume 14 or could have convinced Ramp. to become a puppet king, following Nazarick's instructions and then try to make his kingdom a vassal state.
You can read the WebNovel that has many diferences. But i dont remember what happens to Gazef.
@@elias2054 it doesn't really matter considering the kingdom was Destroyed no thanks to the Selfish Actions of the corrupt Nobles Negating Gazzef sacrifice.
Poor guy. Zanac should've retired.
i was really hoping you would roar out the ork warbosses name like a true ork deserves
"DA ORK WARBOSS RAK EADSMASHA!!!"
was a golden opportunity lost to really startle people who were just listening to you read out names so smoothly XD
zanac was likeable at the end, but if maruyama made zanac likeable in the very beginning this would have hit harder than the foresight ending.
actually brain had the sword and the prince was just wearing the armor . at least he went in a bang *RIP*
I would wholly root for Ains if. It for the fact that (as I get the impression) his killing don't spare the women and children.
After Ashi death in the anime, I've stopped caring for the other characters and just want everyone teamed-wiped
and Zanec was just another cobble stone in Ainz march to greatness.
Ashi?
@@heitorpedrodegodoi5646 I may have spelled her name wrong.
She was the one killed by Shalteir in the anime.

Zanec didn't have razor's edge at that time, Brain still had it, he just had the armor.
I felt like I was reading plot synopsis of a trilogy when I read volume 14 its got a few well written and long segments but everything else is about telling about events that the author decided to off screen. Here are some for those who are interested:
- Renner apparently had to kill off the oprhans or it is at least hinted it to have happened we don't know because that too was off screened.
He also has stated that 17 volume would be the finale meaning the end, so many question will be unanswered
Ya and their a bunch of plot holes
Sometimes, an interfering editor can be a bigger enemy to the story than the villains themselves.
There was no point to show this completely one-sided battle, especially since no one would be left alive to tell the tale.
basically overlord light novels are going to downwards spiral did i understand that right?
@@ajis1337 And for future materials, the anime won't suffer baddies like CGI and rushed contents. Renner killed her father is alright by off screen I guess, so anime watchers won't bitch about her true nature on screen or if animator did it poorly...
One correction there, Zanac did not have Razor’s Edge, just a regular sword. Razor’s Edge was still in the Capital City with Renner and her crew.
I don't recall Prince Xanax having Razors Edge I know he was wearing the adamantine armor but I don't think he had Razors Edge Rim because if he had then crying with Knife Head Razors Edge to fight him a few chapters later
I was honestly hoping ainz would spare the prince tbh. they also should’ve been smart and done what the empire did, their pride is to blame.
I was so upset after I realized they actually went through it I had to take a break
Trinston was here. .
Dude, no offense but you understand little or nothing of what you wrote. Use more punctuation, such as commas.
Was the Undead Army made up of only Death Knights, or was it mixed?

"Genocide isn't exactly a good look for Ainz. Men, women, and children, families, innocents, 8 million in total, all dead and many tortured because he wants a 10,000 year peace? Isn't that exactly how the Holocaust was justified?"
to be fair that's not uncommon in the new world, several nations set their eyes on the kingdom , and were planning its downfall.
and the king openly defended philip and refused to give philp to nazzrick , and would rather try to fight the nazzrick and risk countless lives of civilians to protect a complete idiot just because of his noble blood.
philip rob SK humanitarian food > Albedo & Demiurge Scheme Fail > Ainz Explain that there are stupid nobles > Ainz let Demiurge initiate Carrot & Stick: Stick part to re-estize > albedo come as diplomat to send message > zanac advised to rampossa to sacrifice philip since he is the culprit of the robbery > rampossa reject and offer his head instead > SK reject that > Zanac depose his father > Zanac negotiate with ainz and begged to him to at least spare the people of re-estize kingdom > The corrupt nobles do the unthinkable once again, that is killing zanac > ainz conclude that there is no hope for re-estize and proceed the Carrot & Stick: Stick part on Re-Estize > Kingdom of Re-Estize doomed
The excuse ain't 10,000 years apart even though it's within the plan but the cause behind this are phillip foolish action and Rampossa Stubborn on protecting his corrupt nobles.

Zanac was CHADDER than anyone in the Kingdom.
It's cring wen he starts saying th tho...
