I didnt want to make this comment. But something compelled me too. A lot is being missed in this story. And that this is one of the many stories told for dark skinned Black women. Ara is a dark skinned beautiful Black woman who is very intelligent and strong. Well spoken. And she took a chance on love. She gave up her child, she lost the man she loved and almost lost her position in her community. And the man she loved ended up with the woman he said he didnt love to be with their child. He never knew Ara was pregnant. And He didnt convert or commit to her inspite of his professed love for her. When I fisrt saw this movie. The comments then read, "What a beautiful movie." And I thought - how was it beautiful? Ara lost everything for a man who would not commit to her even though he said he loved her. She sacrificed for him. And he simply walked away "cluesless" of all the sacrifices she made. True love will sacrifice. The man, in my opinion, did not love her. He just "tried" her out. He did not sacrifice anything. And people were calling it a beautiful movie. I come back today....and at least people see what she sacrificed. I am not holding the character Ara unaccountable. If a woman chooses a man...at least make sure he is worthy of the sacrifices you make to avoid paying a high price...for nothing.
Ara and the man were BOTH very irresponsible and reckless. The moral of the darn story is to use protection and slow the heck down. Stop moving so fast in relationships. I hope he does a Paternity Test after that Baby is born since his girlfriend was spending nights and having sex with another man.
Nice analysis by you. By the way, most women these days don't make sacrifices like Ara. They are simply available for the highest bidder. That is why the current partner of Elon Musk was someone's wife before she jumped ship
@@TheBrownIsland For me the moral of this story is to follow God's ways, to be blessed and avoid confusion. Not trying to preach. But when you stray away from what God has laid down - you can actually SEE the trouble that comes from it.
@@bishopharris3085 Nope. You are dead wrong to say such a thing. I watched my mom sacrifice like Ara. Putting up with a lot of foolish things she should not have in the name of love. And the women around me did the same thing. That is why the movie - Waiting to Exhale was so popular and the Joy Luck Club, films by Catherine Cookson. Scores of books and movies made, tell of the sacrifices women made - just like Ara - then and now, from all ethnic backgrounds. Women today still sacrifice like Ara. Hell, take a look at when the movie was made...it wasnt made in the 1950s. Also, men like Elon Musk take women from some kind of caste or rich family with stellar beauty or qualities. Elon is rich - and he will choose from the upper ecshalons of society. So I denounce your assertion that women today stand in line for the highest bidder....when an overwhelming population of them do not even "walk" in the same circles as he do.
@@bishopharris3085 And just because a man has looks and money doesnt mean he will treat you well. Catherine Cookson has a movie about this called "The Secret". Back in that day the rich woman in society tried "marry" into rich families to avoid poverty. But you see the trouble is always there. That is why is ALWAYS a good thing to just...partner....with God. All of the loves songs we have today fits Him...perfectly. You gotta learn it...for yourself. Anyway, as fate would have it...its turns out that the man the woman married was a psychopath. And he beat her. And she was not happy in her rich trappings because there wasnt a lot of love there. She married him for his money and his looks. He wooed her. Did everything right until she was in his grasp. And then his true psychopathic nature jumped right out and punched her. And locked her in a room...for safe keeping you know.😏
I liked her relationship with her mom the most, I thought that was the beauty of the movie. It was nice to see how patient, loving and supportive of her daughter she was, great mother daughter relationship.
the daughter was treated as a minor and as a property prepared to serve duty for the family, if she knew how the daughter loved ben, she wouldn't have attacked him respect to your self and you receive the same, Ben was a Truth teller not hiding behind any thing
Great movie - no assumptions, just the plain truths of life. Many levels to navigate, and this movie deals with them brilliantly. Love a movie that makes you think and shows various points of view and beliefs. These conversations need to happen more often, quite frankly. By the way, Ara and her mother are beautiful ladies. Thank you for the upload. This was valuable time spent. ❤️
I like Ara's mother, " if you don't have honorable intentions, step up, or leave her alone". Poor Ara, torn between true love & cultural/religious upbringing. Ben, realized too late, that he did love her
@@saynotofgm7312 Actually her accent is really Cameroonian based, English spoken with Cameroonian inflections. That is what the 'accent' is and that is why she does not sound like a 'typical' American. You can also hear it in her mom..just deeper, more distinctive. It is indeed beautiful!
Nice movie, it's amazing how they talk sharp topics like religion and don't argue. They really like each other and also are enough smart to deal wit this themes.
Wonder how it would have turned out if she had told him. They spoke about so many things at an intellectual level. Surely they could have been able to negotiate the situation around her pregnancy?! ... But I do not think people should take lightly the idea of minorities giving up their culture for the relatively irreverent Western one. Furthermore, if he could not do good by her, then would not have been worth it. But I ache over the fact he never even knew about his child.
It is a movie that tells a story happening everyday. I believe in love and the power of it! If you find true love and both respect each other’s believes it make work!
I'm going through that same situation. My daughter left to figure herself out.i will only believe like she told me she got her own place she remove the cover we talk time to time but I'm very concerned that is why I was reluctant to watch this movie .My girlfriend suggest it .Adolescent is tough phase when trying to adjust many opposing concepts in life.i myself I grew up US ,I'm conservative but my kids who just moved in few years ago are materialistic. Parenting demands to keep up even though we must wait .I have more tears to cry when the mum said we will wait forever. I'm a single mum too.
This movie is life. It shows that we don't always get the ending we want, but we have to make the choices that aren't just based on feelings. It also shows that regardless of religious beliefs we are all humans and make decisions that do not reflect these beliefs when we give into emotions or feelings
Didn't expect a sad ending like that. This films shows that love is only one part of our life and there're more things to do in our life than attaching to the sake of love..
It's not about other things in life but love, it's about Ara not telling her beloved one and official father of their child that she was pregnant!!! Gabriele was way too advanced in that, but Ara chose the way of suffering and giving up her love, child .. Very stupid attitude.
Wow one of the best movies I have seen in a very long time! This movie resonates well with many of Muslim girls born here in USA or western cultures. Thank you for writing and creating this movie!
@@shininglightstar843 really !! How many do you know that have lasted 20 30 or beyond in years. It’s hard on couples who claim to have common backgrounds much harder for an atheist / agnostic to marry someone of faith especially in religions such as Islam.. Islam is a way of life.. not just something you do on Sunday’s for most Muslims.
This movie is a sad love STORY. The girl mom Ara is right, if the guy will not marry Ara, he said leave her alone. Many people have a hard time making tough decisions in life
They were unequally yoked. And she should have known that but still laid down and got pregnant and secretly had abortion. Ben and Ara would’ve been toxic had they gotten married.
Ara should have stuck with her true love for Ben. Ben should have made sure that the baby from the other girl was really his. After all, she was screwing the other guy. I don't like endings like this.
I love the movie...and the way Ara pronounce 😍 her words , so fluent.....she has an amazing way of convincing and influencing someone's opinion.. Love is a crazy and unexpected thing , u never know whom u will find it in ..... ❤
Super sure and endorsement of your statement. Especially to the female, it is a no no to marry outside their Muslim religion. One of the most difficult barrier in relationship.
The Grace and Mercy of Almighty God is extended to all. We sin all the time. When we acknowledge our sin and ask God's forgiveness, He is faithful to forgive us. She chose not to burden him with the truth, find a way to move forward and get her life back on track. A woman's heart is a deep ocean of secrets......
Their relationship as daughter and mother is beyond imagination.....she supports her and motivates her every chance she gets ❤ u can see the love and trust between them
Beautiful movie. I cried a little because a great love between two precious people, religion and cultures should not be an impediment to love each other.
The movie is too good, well acted and touches on all relevant themes; love, religion, same sex marriages, Africa-American Migration, traditional African beliefs, open relationships, education, death, single parenting, abortion,..... every debate that shapes modern life. 💯 recommended.
I love this movie. It is intellectual with real life portrayal. The ending also depicts real life.. rarely do we have a perfect world. My sense of Ara is- she had to reach a point of self-discovery. And I admire her mum for her gentle reminder of how much she loved her and reminded her of who she was brought up to be. I feel regardless of the complications of both pregnancies--- Ara would have still come to that point of self-discovery herself. I loved Ara's mum speech with Ben- a view to approaching what really matters in the long run. If you love someone you will make sacrifices for them. Ben's character is also golden- we are all not perfect but he was so genuine and showed us his weaknesses. It is a good movie and you can view it from different angles according to your faith, doctrines, background and values.
Did Ben ever find out about Ara and his baby I love the movie don’t like the way it ended is there a second part I hope so because he should know about his baby because he really love ara
This movie is so recent and have people to think out the box ...very well written movie.. for all the religious minded people you all need to understand that the world does not resolve around you have belief kills and beliefs cure so you choice...so please put aside the religious mind and understand the moral of the story line instead of saying you don't support certain parts in the movie it is to open you all minds... # Excellent movie
Sometimes what we think is good for us may not be the case. I loved someone with my whole heart soul and life..it's been 27 years and I'm still not over him. I have a successful marriage and four children. Yet my mind, heart never forgets him. He wasn't meant to be part of my life. Only God knows whats best for us..
There one thing that I do have in life in that's God in my life who need a men when God will never leave or hurt you like man.that who I trust before man in you could never go wrong .just like you have people on your timeline once they see your picture on FB then they read your post but give you no like because of the hate in there heart I get a lot of hate but I sill give other thumb up anyway I don't have to but it's the love that God gave to me so I give it back to all my brother in sister's so you see the hate but I have much love for others because God is love in if we show love we could live a long life . The word is Love.....
Wow Ara. She is beautiful young lady and I think she was scared about the choices she made her self, but I think if she tell ben about the pregnancy, he will support her, because he truly loves her.
She is quite beautiful...also wearing the hijab, literally shows just how beautiful she is...and I'm not Muslim, so I'm not even trying to be biased, but I do think that when women cover up, you get to see their beauty on a whole different level
Pretty ara it so sad we are like a thousand in life that go through same thing ...we don’t always have to end up with what we love but what is right for us ..love isn’t everything it takes ...✌🏽✌🏽
I wish Ara tell Ben about her pregnancy :( It's so sad both going in different ways at last, I am a Asian from Nagaland India, and my Gf is from Jamaica, and we are so faithful to each other.... God bless .
Did she abort the baby or she is going to give it to her husband and if she is going to give it her husband how is going to explain the color of the baby to husband and the community of Muslim people any way wish her the luck but i think that she had tell him about her pregnancy he would have married to her because he is the man for her and the first relationship for her
I think they were back together because she didn't do the abortion and the lady tell her to think about it...she is engaged but not married...she told him we can't talk here that's mean they talk after that,in the end of the movie they were talking while they are in the beach house.if the movie is a small Budget they can't make to a long story and they want people to make their own judgement of the end the movie.
This movie was so emotional seeing the story was about a girl from my country Cameroon and also about my tribe.. Thank you Ejuma Constance and the crew. This is so beautiful.
I was not sure about this movie, however, I watched it and it has left me with many questions. Sleeping around is not who I am or who I ever want to be, but I can see how life can throw you a curve and mistakes can and will be made. The big thing is how to get beyond the mistakes/sin. We do not live in a perfect world and we ourselves are anything but perfect, so I guess we must try our best and preferably fail forward. Learning from the mistakes of others because we cannot live long enough to make them all ourselves. Thank you for the upload, it is a very thought-provoking video.
I'm not perfect but I don't judge but reality is knocking on the door they need to stop making these type of movies with black women being turned down by the white man but when they make movie of the black man with a white woman he always win he always keep that white woman it's just something wrong with these movies I don't agree with how they make black women look but behind closed doors there's a lot of good looking white men do marry black women. Now that's reality for you cuz my daddy is mixed.
@@shawnamorgan247 Hello, to be 100% honest, I dislike so many movies with people of colour in them because of how they are portrayed. I am offended by many shows. This one, caused me to think, there were so many times I wanted to go click let´s see what the next movie is, but it just really opened me up to do a lot of thinking. I never got the opportunity to know my mother, my father took me away when I was a newborn. Then he sold my sister and I so that he would be single and free. I just do not understand people. I guess that is why I prefer horses, dogs or cats to people.
I dated a guy in my 20's who was an atheist while I was a Christian. I think at the time I felt that I was a great catch in every way and would be the prize he would change his beliefs, values etc for but love doesn't really work that way. We also had different political views. That relationship made me realise how important it was to me to date persons who share the values and beliefs that are important to me and that allowed me to cut out many prospects that would have just wasted my time because we were not equally yoked.
@@nadooshashour5106 I love you ara how you do your hijab I wish you are near you can help me do my it shows that there is no one perfect you inspire me to to do my prayers ALHAMDULILLA
It's never a good idea to date someone who doesn't share your own values and beliefs. If you're serious about your faith, I don't think you should date someone who is not of your faith as it will lead to grave issues eventually in the relationship.
@@anneeddrief6055 That's fine. I know some people make it work but if ones beliefs and values are highly important to one, it will be difficult to compromise with one whose values and beliefs are contradictory. If persons are wobbly where their beliefs and values are then compromises are way easier. I fell in love with a guy who was a muslim and I am a Christian. We both valued our beliefs highly and this also set the tone for our values etc which were different in some ways but we bonded over sports, politics, education, food, family etc but we couldn't get pass our religious beliefs and neither was willing to compromise because of how highly we each valued our beliefs. Other persons who may not be big on their beliefs I agree would have no problems. So it really depends on how significant your beliefs are to you. My experience as well.
@@anneeddrief6055 If we are talking about religion, I think it is important to distinguish the people who are religious because it is part of their culture from those who are religious because of personal conviction. If you come from a monotheist religion how do you reconcile with a polytheist religion. I actually forgotten a third category, those who follow a religion and change it to suit themselves. in that case, everything goes religious, cultural values etc are subjective.
The one who really loved Ara was Nabir. He loved her and didn't care that she had lived with another man. What really mattered to him was Ara. He married her despite knowing everything about Ben. She will eventually learn to love him with time. She will remember Ben as a beautiful mistake. She stayed at his place without telling him she's pregnant to see if she could live a life with him. The other pregnancy was the reason she needed to leave him. Ben never changed anything about his life for her. Their life together would have been her making all the sacrifices. Relationships with different religious beliefs work when there is mutual respect. They didn't have.
Moral of this movie is don't be yoked with unbelievers.Ara was a believer and Ben was not. They loved eachother but their background and beliefs were stronger
I just love the good beautiful relationship between Ara and her mum. That's the kind I pray to have with my kids when am finally blessed with them. Relating with your parents that you can feel so free around them and them knowing you is amazing. Nice movie
I loved this movie, intellectually stimulating on so many levels, and visually stunning. It makes me sad that I don't think I have ever seen a film like it. It stays with you. x
Interesting and very realistic! It's never too late to mend our ways. I'm glad that Ara found the courage to take a stand. Honestly, things happen but when you fall make sure you never remain on the ground. Get up! Best bet: learn from others mistake
Somehow i feel like things would have panned out differently if he just had known about the pregnancy... sad story but then again very realistic... overall good movie.
I think so. She is strong intelligent woman she could dealt with everything, the other girl being pregnant that broke her. No fault of the guy. Thats just live.
2020, I found this movie to be an interesting love story. Two different cultures one with strong beliefs, and one with out morals or strong values. " So he thought" until he met a woman who changed his values in life to integrity. But in the end Ara failed to share her truth regarding her present situation with the one life who she helped changed. It would be interesting to see a part two. If Ara's new husband would be able to withstand her present situation even though he stated, "he was willing to accept anything." Actions speak louder than words.
No. A new husband will always resent her child as it will represent his wife's lack of chastity. He will wonder how many other men have been where he puts his manhood. His family will never accept her. Never.
Things like this happen everyday! but I have learned that it wise when we see things for they are, she was a strong believer he was not... even the Bible says that darkness and light never get along. they liked each other and Ara did a very good job by lifting him up with his studies but maybe they should have stayed friends. I could feel how broken she was when she realized that she messed everything up, including her realationship with her God and her mom, I could feel her pain and disappointment because I have been there so many times until God opened my eyes. Great movie , amazing lesson👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I didn't see it mile that ok it’s a movie but why did she refuse to say ben she is pregnant ? That could change a lot of thing cause ben liked her. Anyway it is movie. Nice movie.
Ooouuuu 😍, skin like dark chocolate mixed with bronze, teeth like fine ivory, a voice like perfectly aged wine. What a gorgeous woman. The movie is good too. It feels realistic. No fairytale like most. I think we need to see this side of life in film.
It's so sad how two people that were not in love with each other, met two people that fell in love with them: messed them up and then got back together.....
@@GS-kb3en My sentiments exactly. Gabrielle was never one to be trusted and she clearly did not appreciate Ben being with Ara and truly caring about her. If only Ara had told him about the baby...days perhaps weeks went by in silence.
Exactly,I feel Gabrielle got pregnant just to pin Ben down. She saw the connection between Ara and Ben and knew she was gonna loose him. and that her other never do well loser of a lover was not an option for her so she quickly got pregnant.
Two conflicting souls. I could list of things she shouldn't do/have done, but life is complicated like that. Ara should have told Ben about the baby. Her vital question came much too late,it's something to know before the relationship and sacrifices start. Ben,indecisive, trying to ease his way through life. I think he loves Ara,but procrastination made him loose her,she wants safety, security. Great movie. Thanks for sharing.
i agree with your thoughts. Ara should have told him, althought it may her life less kacotic, but he had a right to know, he has a child with her, instead of someday finding out when the child comes looking for him. at the end, Ara did decide on security, above happiness. at the same time, if Ben had known Ara was pregnant, he wouldn,t have let her go. because he did love her. they had a mental connection that seem to enpower both of them. if i was the writer of the script, i would have wrote just that. Ben/Ara would be together, and he did a patunity test for the other girl. he could visit his second child if it is his. i would have wrote that Ben and Ara got married, she has her faith, and love. all is good.
Are should have told Ben about the baby, and he would have marry her , I believe he would even if she wasn’t going to have a baby , I think he loved her and could even understand more about life , and o don’t believe that the other baby was for Ben .
I love the movie, I've once been in Aras shoe, it wasn't that easy.. I had to make a decision, I was hurt , but by the end of the day it's always about having that peace, that inner peace and being around people who love you and respect you...
Ara did the typical sacrifice of love, she chanced it and it might of worked, there were signs from the beginning that indicated that there were obticals, how much more is one willing to take, it would have been a problem after another, she did the right thing to move on, not too many people get to correct the problems in the beginning, even tho your past comes and haunts you...☹️🍃🍃🍃
Guys relax it's just a movie. She might not even be a Muslim in real life.... relax guys please🙏 This movie has opened my eyes. Its always safe to date and marry someone who has the same faith as you.
Yes. I can't have love and faith separated. Not worth it. Also in their case no one was willing to convert for the other.... Ben is a no no... Busy and still childish, not ready to commit. Even people commenting that Ara should have told him about the pregnancy....it would not change him.
I feel so saddened, they love each other , why not marry, I see myself through this story when I was younger. I wish I can go back and do things different. Heartbroken.
Scripture teaches not to be unequally yoked together. In the beginning, it's exciting to be with someone so different. The real hardship comes when you have children together because they don't share the same values. Ben and Gabriel were better suited. Aura and her fiance will be happier together. Aura had an attractive dignity about her that was very becoming.
Yep but in order to give help she scares herself .Her faith was not too strong she should have talk to someone else in the community other than her mum circle about her inner struggle. She was pushed .Ben took ADVANTAGE of her emotional weakness, although she was intellectual. He was in a sense giving comfort as returning her kindness .
I'm waiting for Ara to tell Ben that she's pregnant, but she choose to keep it.. Ben is in love with her but Ara pushes him away, at least Ara try to fight her love and tell Ben that she's pregnant.. Nice movie..
If I ever tried the open relationship thing, everyone involved in it would end up at a morgue, myself included....so nope, open relationships aren't for me😂😂😂😂
I know, right!!! Thts what annoyed me about Ara! She knew good and well tht he was sleeping w/Gabrielle and kept having sex w/ him well into the course of having a relationship w/him...But then was shook and felt betrayed when consequences took place...like tf!!!???

I really do not understand why it is big deal who you fall in love with especially when your family members are involved , you can not help it who you fall in love with. Love is love. No matter the religion.

OHHHHH....Great Acting with Ara's mom, Ara, Gabrielle, and Ben!! Wow this movie had a great plot! The twist and turns had me baffled! This movie is something we can ALL learn from, sometimes it's just best to stay away from these complicated relationships from the beginning! I think both of them were at a unravelling stage, where they were still trying to find themselves, undecided as to what they wanted. Ben really loved her I believe, but so nonchalant about his life. Suddenly, he noticed Ara, and was intrigued that this exoctic looking woman(of African decent) was so intelligent, so confident and poised, she was giving him the time of day! Ara was gently offering him academic advice and good time management! Which he never got from Gabrielle. Ben felt like he had purpose again, hope and sparkle in his eyes(kinda like a kid in a candy store), and he loved the feeling, not necessarily LOVE of the relationship! On the other hand, Ara was fascinated by Ben's attention and connection to her, how he made her laugh, and how he accepted her even though she was so different from him. I believe she loved the pleasant arguments they would have about religion. Additionally, she was trying to explore, she was trying to evade the constant nag from her mother to marry a man she had no interest in. She was curious to see where this relationship could end up, but it got both of them nowhere. Both of them ended up without each other....
That is the perfect summary and brilliantly said and done. Bravo kerine Simms. Bravo. That's exactly how I was thinking but could not put it into words. My heart hurts for them. Thank you.

I could listen to Ara for hours. her accent and depth amazes me.
Yeah I love that accent, where is she from?
I agree
She's american

A movie that draws on so many emotions. I'm surprised Ben never questioned why Ara got engaged. Lovely tracks.

I don’t agree at all bcse of my experience
My experience as well.
even when that person is the same race as you.
Ara's mum is awesome! Beautiful movie with great intellectual conversations

" So he thought" until he met a woman who changed his values in life to integrity. But in the end Ara failed to share her truth regarding her present situation with the one life who she helped changed. It would be interesting to see a part two.
I think he loves Ara,but procrastination made him loose her,she wants safety, security.

i agree with your thoughts.

Most times we find ourselves attracted to the opposite. Thank God she still ends up with someone who loves her more cause not every man will accept you with your open wound.

the director of the movie says she should not tell gim
Great moving don’t like the ending .. Ben really loved her.
I must add, she's so intelligent and confident ☺
The movie was bittersweet.
Such a lovely movie with so much emotion...
I really do not understand why it is big deal who you fall in love with especially when your family members are involved , you can not help it who you fall in love with. Love is love. No matter the religion.
this is a question with a simple answer... " you probably have principles you wouldn't go against... right? well to these people wrong religion or no religion is problematic. They believe non believers will burn in hell so marrying a non believer will influence any potential kids fate... if a person believes in their religion then they believe that their kids if not religious will be in HELL... Not complicated to understand.
Я посмотрела фильм хотя не владею англиским они очень нуждаются друг в друге
wow just hearing Cameroon 🇨🇲 my country makes me wanna finish this movie with all excitement.
Many a film would struggle to compare with its characters & depth of storyline: It's a subtle blend of bitter/sweet cultural union, yet also offers faith verses agnostic philosophy. Food for thought and a pleasure to watch.
Very lovely and intellectual and articulate characters of actors... All love and respect to this repeatedly reoccurring reality-based painful story💔
All cameroonians pls gather here for Ara.🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲 This is what we all go through most often, battle between our desires and our faith, it's never easy,
Cameroon all the way

@@DeirtheAccountant wow that's amazing, she's indeed a wonderful actress, and the producers did so well to use an actual cameroonian for that character, I saw her name she's indeed Cameroonian
She is so beautiful.. great story line 👏🏽👏🏽🙏🏽
PS:-- The fact that Ben was in a relationship(open or not) should be a big RED FLAG signally to Ara to STAY AWAY!
That is the perfect summary and brilliantly said and done. Bravo kerine Simms. Bravo. That's exactly how I was thinking but could not put it into words. My heart hurts for them. Thank you.
Really sad end
The irony that they both settled is not lost here…how relatable… well done
She's absolutely beautiful, her skin, eyes and smile.....
