  • This "How to" video explains how to put the hakama on and how to tie it's belts.
We show 2 ways that can be applied depending ont he lenght of the belts.
Hakama (袴) refers to the divided skirt, also called samurai pants, worn by Aikido practitioners. Usually the hakama is worn by advance practicioners, in most cases as of 1st kyu or even as of shodan (1st dan = black belt). But this can vary from one dojo to another and sometimes even beginners can wear it.
Hakama has 7 pleats that are meant to represent the seven virtues of Bushido, the Samurai's code of chivalry.
There will be more videos about "how to's" and other topics around the practice of Aikido coming up on Tuesdays, so stay tuned.
