That would be an AWESOME guitar to do "Bowie/Ziggy Stardust" era covers on. All that glitter just screams for mick ronson solo's!!! I'm considering doing just the pickguard for my gold DC.
It could go wrong though & get you a bad rep like Gary the NONCE Glitter! What a sex case little freak he is! Nastaaaay! The New York Dolls had a song called Vietnamese Baby & Gary put a whole new sick spin on that idea!! Eeuuuurrrrgggghhhh!
This was an unexpectedly cool concept. I could see somebody rocking a black DC with gold hardware, sparkly gold stripes, black pickups and a gold anodized scratch plate
Having stuff glued to a guitar is at least as old as Jimmy Page's Telecaster mirrors. Since then, we've seen everything from self-sticking rhinestones to the punk-attitude coating of stickers. Now, you have pioneered a new way to bling out your axe with glam-o-flage. Congrats, UA-cam influencer!
you can get this kind of foil meant for cars and signs that doesn't need heating, you just stick it on. i have some pink glitter stripes applied to the pickguard of my squier '51 and it's been solid for years. key is to lay it so that there's no bubbles or wrinkles
You would have that down the pawn shop in 2 mins flat for a six pack & some smokes! ;) They might pay you enough for one beer & 2 smokes with this POS? Cheers.
Recently did a standard stick-on vinyl for a headstock and it worked pretty well. Has imperfections, probably needed to be more clean before putting the vinyl down, but it worked. Tried to do the same thing for a pickguard but I really messed it up. It was not clean enough and every little dust spot showed through. I also cut it the wrong way round once, wasting a bunch of the material. But oh well, it's cheap stuff. Good way to change the look of e.g. a pickguard if you don't want to buy new PG material and recut one.
You can get these vinyl sheets in decal form, instead of heat transfer, on Etsy. I've done a couple of sparkle pickguards and been pretty happy. It is difficult to achieve no bubbles whatsoever, but I have found that over a 6 month period, they flatten out completely on their own. Wouldn't try it on a body with any contours.
As someone who likes playing dress-up with his his car using vinyl get yourself a heat gun or even a hair dryer. Much, much easier to handle than an iron. With a heat gun you aren’t trying to set the thing on fire, just steady sweeping motions, and with a few passes it’s done. Also auto grade vinyl should hold to the paint and remove with just a bit of residue that’ll wipe off without damaging the paint. So in this video instead of trimming the ends with a blade, risking damage to the guitar’s finish, you could run a bit of knifeless tape where you wanted the stripes to end and the result is that all the stripes end in a perfect, clean line. Then you may wish to look up a product called knifeless tape. You can put tap down following contours of the guitar, like around the cutouts, lay the vinyl down over the whole thing, then pull out the knifeless tape to get the exact line you want so you don’t have to spend a lot of time trying to cut it before applying and then trying to line it up perfectly. I came across your video searching for tips about how and where to cut and tuck the vinyl to minimize the visibility of the seams. I’ve got a color scheme in mind for a guitar I’m planning to buy.
I liked the pickguard idea. I might steal that one! I have a cheap $20 garage sale strat-type guitar that is bland. I could jazz up the pickguard like this for only a few bucks, compared to buying a new one for 500% more.
I just watched this on my TV that is hysterical man you are so right I did not expect to see this today I cannot stop laughing seriously hahaha I think that would be great for like a little kid you know trying to learn just Market down half price get something out of it along with all of these laughs I kind of wish you would have done the pick guard in the same color as the stripes but it's whatever you know
Thanks for pointing me to this video! Maybe you van put a compensated nut in it for that g string? This would be a great guitar to learn some more advanced setup skills like a fretjob or something
isn't it supposed to stick without the heat, you smooth out with squeegee, then heat to affix it permanently? Maybe a heat gun would work better. I think there's potential to do cool things here. Thanks Ryan.
But even now that you changed the bridge and intonated it (and now 'decorated') don't like it?? btw, I liked those stripes and the pickguad thing!! bybye
Thank you. I was interested in customizing my F.Squire. There is a lot of choices, IF you have $$$. Custom paint jobs can be pricey. After I watched your video, and my friend does sublimation on many things, I believe I can find something to satisfy desire to have a personalized "axe". Again. Thanks.
Dude how many guitars do you have?? Seems like you have alot. The bubbling is likely the poly finish. And last I think all you need to get that off would be a heat gun. The stripes kinda suck but the pick guard looks ok, I think you were on the right track with that. Gold would not be my first choice for it but it works, and I think it would be better if without the stripes. Ok well that's my 2&1/2 cents worth
Glam rock. Hair metal. Glitter punk. I like to pretend the hair metal never existed. The quality variations of glam are all still out there. This guitar would have looked completely natural with many bands I've enjoyed.
Hi. I've worked in the sign business for a long time.... You really DON'T want to put vinyl on an axe. At least not on one you want to keep. I could go on all day about why, but just take my word for it. It's a bad idea.
its looks now like guitar of 12 years old girl after artclass..

Hello! I guess you learned the guitar on an Electric and not acoustic? Why do I say that? 'Cause you said in a previous post, "Acoustic Guitars are boring."
@@60CycleHumcast I agree. I always tell people to go electric. It takes alot for an acoustic to get me excited. My gitane d-550 and a lil parlor I like but added a Chinese "tonewood pu" too.

Someone has to take the risks with these things so that we can totally avoid ruining our 1959 Les Paul Standards with My Little Pony stripes!

I wonder if a heat gun would work? I like the stripes idea. And am really surprised at the guard.
Yes, this is entertaining Ryan. Great work!
Guitar playing is magic!
I actually really like the pickguard!
