It's outrageous how many close matches Hurkacz has played against Djokovic without winning a single one
Hurkacz is the best server on the tour right now.. And he also has a decent return game.. Plus a monster forehand..
I hope he doesn't end like Monfils with H2H 0-17 or sth with Nole.
@@changeisinevitable3040 tbh, that is all he has. Not much further tennis so far. Pretty much every time he surpassed his serve, the point was lost for Hurkacz. It was that or unforced errors.

aw hubi giving his head on nole's shoulder was so cute haha ♥
No man Djokovic is unreal🔥❤️we are blessed to experience this in tennis.
For anyone wondering, this means that the Sinner/Rune match decides Djokovic's fate. If Sinner wins, Sinner + Djokovic moves on. If Rune wins, Sinner + Rune moves on. Score doesn't matter.
From tht ATP: "Group position is by matches won, followed by matches played, then sets and games won %. If 2 or more players/teams are tied H2H win trumps matches won. " What does it mean?
@@JeanP101 those are tiebreakers
Maybe Sinner will want to put Rune through and make Djokovic out - who knows ;). For Sinner the win today is not that important especially that he doesn't know with who he can play later.
@@Introverder I think no matter what, Sinner will give it his all. It's not in his nature to tank to avoid Djokovic.
@@JeanP101 If Rune defeats Sinner, both Djokovic and Sinner would be tied, but since Sinner beat Djokovic, he would go through because of the better H2H.
So basically: Injured Tsitsipas gives Sinner a 2-0 win, gives Rune a 2-0 win by playing 1/3 of a set. Then dips and gives Djokovic a fresh Hurkacz to steal his set and fuck his chances. Lmao ok
This should be illegal 😢
yes this is so weird. As if Stef knew what he was doing from the start
i thought Rune's win should be counted as 1 set maximum, but ATP has its own rules ...
what a random tournament
They should just squeeze in rune vs hurkacz. This is now total BS. How is it fair to call in fresh player for just one match. Rune did not play a match and that means a lot less effort vs Nole in any case.
He told Djokovic “you’re the best player ever.”
Nice game .. hurkacz played very well this game
So Djokovic beats Rune and a fresh Hurkacz then loses against Sinner in a very close three setter but he still risks elimination in favor of someone he beat?
Yep, the retirement gave Rune a 2-0 win. There's nothing you can really do for retirements, as it would also not be fair to not give Rune 2 sets when he didn't have the opportunity to win them. Also it's very rare that the alternates are better than the direct qualifiers.
Tsitsipas knew what he was doing when he started that match against Rune
I think it is because even if Rune beats Sinner in 3 sets, he will have a better set winning percentage compared to Djokovic. 57% to 56%.
I think it makes more sense that you get "special" sets from retirement wins. They are not worth more than 2-1, and not less than 2-0, like a superposition or a +- value in set win percentage. While comparing to another player, if they are within this uncertainty span then you look at h2h instead.@@brandonm8901
It's a joke ! Tsitsipas never intended to play the match & should have dropped out earlier.
What? Your comment reads like someone not paying attention to the proceedings. TPass knew he was injured, but wanted that $200k, so played a few games then retired. Olive oil going rancid before the 2nd RR match would've let Hubcap play 2 full matches & actually compete for a place in the SF.
Instead, the retirement gives Quitsipass an easy paycheck & Hubi out of competition. It's a calculated & petty move by Richie Rich. Hubusted's next best option was to take a set off You-Know-Who which allowed Sinner to lock in his SF spot. Now, Sinner has the power to throw the match with Rune thereby completely knocking You-Know-Who out of the running for the SF. Will he do that? Probably not, but Sinner now has the power to do so.
Well done Goat
Djokovic deserves to be in the semis & it a joke if Rune advances.
Rune will not have to win a single match of any importance to his opponents to advance & given a free win. Lost to Djokovic. Given win over Tsitsipas who never intended to play the match & should have dropped out earlier. Now plays a guy who has already set his spot in the semis & doesn't need to win or compete hard.
There must a way to improve the rules, as they are now there's too much room left for absurd situations like this where a player quitting can mess up on too much with other players own performance
@1158scott entitlement I see
Djocovid deserves to retire 😂
No easy matches but Djokovic’s mental toughness shines through.
Hope Sinner beats Rune so that Djokovic makes it to the semifinals and a chance that Sinner & Djokovic meet in the final.
Hurkacz is a solid player and had a resurgence in the past month or so, winning the Shanghai Masters and finishing 3 consecutive years in the Top 10.
The rule of deciding who's in semi is strange. If Rune wins, Djokovic is out. Rune got a free gift from Tsitsipass's walkover, he might have beaten Tsitsi, but who knows, in two sets, or in three sets, or lost? Even if Rune got in, the record is tarnished a bit. Anyway, Djojovic already secured his year end No.1, everything else is bonus.
He does care about records as well though, he's currently tied with Federer for most year ends won
@@johnhennessy4422 I think the record he likes the most is Grand Slam titles. He already has 24, most of all time, that's all that matters. I do hope he gets his 25, so to shut down ridiculous mentions of Margaret Court who we all know her 24 including WTA 250 or WTA 500 titles, by no means were true open era GS titles, but anti-Djokovic media like to bring it up, They never talk about Court's record when Federer or Nadal was leading GS titles. Just shows how ridiculously biased the media has been. Luckily, sensible tennis fans can see through smoke and know the difference.
Rune another awful player who can't even bear djocovid 😂😂😂
@@sherry8339 Dude who cares what the media says , unless women play against men which will never happen their records mean nothing in comparison to men .
Djokovic is still too good to only win 1 more slam until he is done , unless some freak injury happens he should win more . While I know he wants to win 30 I think that is a pipe dream at this point , he is too old to win 6 more and the youngsters are coming and keep improving . I think he finishes in a 26-28 slam range .
As far as the ATP Finals goes he definitely wants to win a seventh and be the sole record holder of the tournament no doubt , ATP Finals is the biggest tournament outside of slams and since he is already the slam leader , the masters 1000 leader why not try to lead in this as well ? He is in the semis now and its not like he got crushed by Sinner , he lost in a tie break of the third set . Djokovic certainly is good enough to win this but with these super fast conditions you just never know , it feels almost like a gamble between these elite players .
@@blabla-fw9ix Isn't it ridiculous to compare a man's record to a woman's? As absurd as it sounds, the first thing that the ESPN presenter said after Djokovic's record 24 win at USO was " you tie Margaret Court's 24 record", that's almost an insult to tennis fan's intelligence by saying that. That's why I hope Djokovic get at least one more, 25 + even better, so don't even give them a chance to say anything. It is getting difficult for Djokovic to win more GS though, top younger ones are getting better and better, look at Paris and ATP finals, Djokovic's wins were very close, could have easily gone either way, admittedly ATP tournaments' best of three are different from GS's best of five. Djokovic plays better at GS. As long as he is healthy, as you said, he certainly can win more than one GS, again, it would be more difficult.
Djokovic means business in this match. His movement, stamina n return of ball is excellent for a 36 yrs old player. Hurkacz played well n really give everything. His game very similar to Berdych but bigger serve.
that was a slow motion game, no one gave his best
I hate that Hubi didn't qualify. He would have made the group way more competitive.

Blame Hubi for earning less points throughout the year, thus resulting in a lower rank.@@GovernmentIssued
That wonderful embrace at the net. Why don't we ever see that in women's tennis? And why isn't anyone in the tennis world mentioning this?
In ALL other sports, the last round is always played simultaneously so there isn’t any advantage if you play later knowing the result of the other game… strange ATP haven’t caught on to that
I think usually there is only one court in these ATP finals.
ATP obviously wants to maximize viewing and dollars, if the two matches played simultaneously people would have to choose.

Congrats to Djokovic! Also, obviously, Sinner will not tank his match against Rune. Sinner is not that kind of person. However, Sinner is 0-2 against Rune, so things will be interesting. I don't know why he said so cause at the end he won fair and square (was worse only in service department where Hubi is the best). Funny thing cause the situation was that even losing one set by Nole made the only important thing the score of the second match :P ;) - I mean for Rune and Nole cause Sinner have just to go on court.
@@Introverder Serbs are experts in sarcasm and playful teasing, and so is Djokovic. 🤷♂️
@@Introverder Because the first 2 sets were the real part of the match. Hubi served like a BEAST during the first 2 sets & You-Know-Who was visibly frustrated. In the 2nd set, Hubi won 6-4 with 100% 1st serves won, 93% 1st serves made, 129 FH speed, & they were even with 50% 2nd serves won. It's how Hubi won Shanghai. The match ultimately came down to 2nd serves / returns won. If Hubi had gotten to play two full matches to really contend for a place in the SF, he would've prepared more to make sure his return game & 2nd serve were sharper. For this, he just knew, take a set to help Sinner get through.

I really admiré Hurkach, he's very humble
I reckon, this is the strongest and most competitive Nitto ATP finals of all time, considering the levels of top 8 excluding Tsitsipas. Would have been even mind boggling, if we would have Thiem in his prime.
Thiem reduced his level embarrassingly and tsitsipas tried hard with his backhand can't even suceed on that either 😂😂😂
at least Nadal is not there - waste of space at the ATP finals. Last year he had to get his academy bumboy to throw a match to get a win! (Ruud admitted he was taking it easy in an interview as was already through)

Sinner is going to win tonight...but if not, as Jannik fan i can't be so sad to don't have Nole around at the semis! Without Joker chances to win the tournament for Jannik are so much more! He won an incredible match last tuesday night. but win 2 times in a row against the Goat is hard as win a GS for anyone!
That is true, but I think the semi's and final will be more entertaining if Djokovic goes through.
And as a fellow Sinner fan it would be amazing if Sinner beats Djokovic in the final to take the tournament, but the chance that Sinner wins twice in a row is not that high considering how close the match was.
@@tijgertjekonijnwordopgegeten yeah you right, i'm selfish af but onestly for once i will not care about the entertainment if this will mean get the trophy for Jannik!🤣 it could be the final achievement for an awesome season and a iper confidence boost for Sinner, making him even more sure to be able to fight anyone and go for the first GS next year! he's not the champion yet
No way he tanks. First of all he's playing in front of a home crowd, and second I'm sure he knows that he's the "successor" to the Nole fandom and would lose a LOT of future fans if he came out half-assed and got Novak knocked out. And, of course, the potential payday AND 200 ranking points (almost as much in one match as in an ATP250 tournament!) are nothing to sneeze at.

Why is the quality so low?
I think that a new rule should be imposed from next year. To form a mini table between players who played each other in case that they didn't play against same opposition due to injuries or walkovers. So in this scenario, you only count matches aginst players that are in contention to go through and count results aginst the same opponents... Don't know if it makes sense😅
It doesn't
The issue is Rune somehow gaining an advantage from his opponent bowing out after a couple of games. It had absolutely nothing to do with Holger's performance. If anything, the metric should be "% of sets won" and "% of games won" with the second set (which was never played) not counting.

Hurkacz has great talent.
Good big servers tend to have a more forceful style of play due to their size, but he did not.
He can pace himself with his strokes.
Not only can he accelerate his tempo, but he can also slow it down.
Not many players can do this.
If his forehand evolves into something more solid and powerful, he can beat anyone at any time.
Well, I hope that Sinner comes with another win, although he is through into the semis and that means that Novak will go through.Rune was given a victory in the walkover match so really it is not fair to count it, and if he beats Sinner he will go through and not Novak who beat Rune in the first round, and Novak won the match with Hubert as Tsitsipas replacement and that is a somewhat unusual.
The match was fine. Wish Hubcap had played for keeps, but TPass not letting him play two matches likely contributed to Hubi not busting his hump to win. At least Hubiquitous won that 2nd set 6-4 to give Sinner the green light to the SF. How? 100% of 1st serves won, 93% 1st serves made, 129 FH speed, & 50% of 2nd serves won. Hubaceous knows what he needs to do to win, but he's really got to bring more consistent power to his forehand & lift his 2nd serve percentage if he wants to climb higher in the rankings & start snatching the biggest titles. It was nice seeing him play. Now, off to the Polish mountains yet again for training.
i think that hurk could have done more damage than tsitsipas did…he deserved more to play the 3 matches than the greek.
Sinner will lose on purpose. Novak did everything he could. Now, next is Davis cup. Let's go Serbia and Nole!
Champion players don't think about who to avoid and who to face, they just roll through opponents. Sinner is on a roll now and i don't think he wanna lose a match going into the knockouts.
I don't believe it. If you lose on purpose, you are done as a sportsman.
When your success depends on someone ELSE winning or losing, its time to reflect on the impending takeover by the next Gen. But, it will be awhile before GOATs records are met, much less broken...
You seem to be conflating things. This is the fastest, slickest court on tour. Hubi is a HUGE server & was well rested. The match was ALWAYS going to be a challenge for You-Know-Who. Hubi had 100% 1st serves won, 93% 1st serves made, & 129 FH speed to claim the 2nd set for Sinner. What makes the Finals so unique is the RR format where you can lose & still be alive in the tournament.
It's not that You-Know-Who is playing badly, it's that the playing conditions are super challenging for players who lean on their return game like he does. There's less time to react which makes the game first strike tennis. The other 6 players are really bringing it (Ruby was sick & TPass was injured, so they don't count), so it's pushed You-Know-Who to three sets each time. It's the Finals which means no easy matches for anyone.
Easy. Djokovic had no defeat since Wimbledon until that match with Sinner. He's still the best player despite being much older than Carlos, Sinner, Rune... Of course, he will slow down, it's natural, but he will still win big tournaments and extend his records.
@itinnav5301 if u think that in 2024 on be my guess he won’t win as much as u think he will max 1-2 majors maybe only 1 young generation is coming
are you r4tarded???? go take autism test
He won 3 out of 4 Grand Slams this year.He play for GS trophies ,this small tournaments are trening grounds for big ones.He end this year as number one even though he is chasing only GS until he retires. Are you retarded?
Rune getting through cos of a walkover is ridiculous. Rules need to be looked into and changed. Even if he loses to Sinner, he wouldve won 1/3 andnsomehow that is better than 2/3 victories of Novak. Wtf
ever young no doubt on that
Can somebody please explain this to me that why the pace of game is slow, I had watched some old clips of tennis amd those players were hitting the balls very furiously and nowdays im watching some clips of tennis i dont see that pace I dont know why can anyone please explain as im not aware 😊😊

Jannik Sinner qualified for the semi-finals of the Nitto ATP Finals on Thursday when Hubert Hurkacz won the second set of his match against Novak Djokovic.
1) Regardless of score, if N. DJOKOVIC defeats H. HURKACZ and J. SINNER defeats H. RUNE, then J. SINNER wins the group and N. DJOKOVIC qualifies 2nd.
2) If N. DJOKOVIC defeats H. HURKACZ in 3 sets and H. RUNE defeats J. SINNER in 2 sets, then H. RUNE wins the group and J. SINNER qualifies 2nd.
3) If N. DJOKOVIC defeats H. HURKACZ in 3 sets and H. RUNE defeats J. SINNER in 3 sets, then H. RUNE wins the group and J. SINNER qualifies 2nd.
lol that poker face from cahill when hubi qualified his boy
For every1 who stilk has the doubts about Rune what he needs? Whatever the outcome in 2 or 3 sets for Rune he will be qualified...if Sinner win the Match Djoko wilk be qualified as second. 3W sinner, 2W djoko and 1W Rune. The first thing they take for the qualification is the match winner first in case of tie so the games played and %%% and all that so Rune got huge advantage from Tsitsipas withdrawal literally loosing just 1 game so Rune need to win even if the last draw is gonna by tied by 2, sinner is already qualified and Rune will have the advantage by winning games %%% cuz the tsitsipas withdrawal.
classy ✨
does Djokovic slice this much in other matches?
