I remember calling in Sick from Work and Scalping a Ticket outside the Spectrum __ was 5th row close to where Grant Hill threw in the Ball __ I remember thinking it was over and the guy next to me said 2.1 seconds is a lot of time __ and he was right lol
At the time this was rough, but this game put the Cats back on the national map. This game led to the ‘96 and ‘98 championships, and the ‘97 runner-up. So- thanks to the amazing d-bag, CL. 👍
why did they allow him to catch a pass three fourths the length of the floor so cleanly? everyone in the building knew this was going to laettner all the way... the coaches, the players, the fans, the cheer leaders, security. everyone except the guys guarding him.
Pitino told them to double Laettner. He wanted one defender fronting him and one behind him. He didn't say which defender should be where and they both played behind him. One of them even drifts off when Laettner dribbles and turns. Apparently not wanting to foul. Great game. Maybe the best in tournament history
@@WilliamReinheimer Yes. John Pelphrey just stood there and didn't even put his hands in the air to contest the shot. And not putting anybody guarding the inbound pass was a terrible move. It certainly gets my vote for best NCAA Tournament game. And I'm an unbiased TN fan although it's fun to listen to my KY friends still cry about it even today. They HATE C.L.
So it was good for both of us then. It was great to see them do this to Kentucky as I've never forgotten when they beat us in the finals when I had just recently become a Duke fan. I'm from CT and Duke's big man, Mike Gminski, played his high school ball in a neighboring town. So I predate coach K.
We were all on campus watching and was looe I am not believing he just hit that shot . That play may not happen if Grant Hill doesn't make a great pass. Laetrner was a good all around player.
If Shaq had been on the team then I assume the US would have won the gold medal even more? Like a super duper gold medal and not just the plain jane gold like they did win?
Christian should have been thrown out for stomping on Amino Timberlake. Instead they come up with a bunch of chippies and foul out Jamal Mashburn. Give game ball to refs. Best player Duke ever had!!

I was 13 and watched this live. Epic
Same.
I was 9 and honestly remember it like it was yesterday. I watched it live, too 🙏
I got chills watching this shot in real time.....unbelievable
That inbound pass was perfect.
The fact that he had time to squeeze that one dribble in before the shot amazes me
Coach K told him during the TO that he had time to dribble. That helped him get set.
As a Louisville fan, this makes me smile. I love Christian Laettner because of this play
At least we beat yall this year and I. Football for the past 5, you ain't got nothing to say
Enjoy your wins because a big bird is coming to sweep up victories very soon.
Best college basketball game ever
Imagine the devastation of being a Kentucky fan and seeing this irl
I have a family full of Kentucky fans. I'm a Louisville fan, so this is one of my favorite NCAA tournament moments
Imagine being number 34 on Kentucky and not playing any defense on that play.
I’d be in that group of devastated Kentucky fans in a room full of Duke fans. I remember it like it was yesterday.
It's was one of those games where you remember where you were when you saw it.
Was 13 years old. I remember where I was when I watched this happen.
Dude at the end was just looking for an excuse 🤣
I was watching this game with a couple of Tarheel fans - they were SO UPSET. It was glorious.
This makes me fell old, i was 10 years old watching with my cousins in western Kentucky.
the term "instant classic" was never used until after this shot.
Don’t give me PTSD
That was more awesome than the MJ Shot…because of the precise touchdown Pass from G.Hill!!!!👊🏽🔥👊🏽
You're smoking 🪨 😂
@@TheMrRobert
Ohhh somebody compared him to your idol. But you did your duty, and defended his honor.
Btw, this shot is more impressive.
@@regzzuse280 lol I disagreed, I guess with your logic you couldn't eltnme disagree without you defending your baby's honor 😂 🤡
@@regzzuse280 and btw no it's not, Christian was also a nobody in the NBA 😂 how many NBA titles did he win again?
@@TheMrRobert
See there, you switch the convo to NBA career, but the topic is this single shot. No need to become defensive on each comment about MJ.
I'm 196 years old
That 32 years went by quick. Seems like yesterday.

Why did 34 give up on the play?

Because you can't foul C.L. He had already hit 19 F.T.'s in a row.

And yes I am a huge lifelong Duke fan

Saw it Live, and my wife was pregnant with our 2nd child. Woke her up screaming... Christian or Christina...
That easy as turn around jumper nobody guarding him, doing all these moves Wid nobody in him
Cry more
That's Laettner's fault ?
Do you know what else is easy? Learning how to spell and use proper grammar.
30 years later and my dad still hates laetner
Should’ve been Shaq on the dream team instead of this princess
If Shaq had been on the team then I assume the US would have won the gold medal even more? Like a super duper gold medal and not just the plain jane gold like they did win?
whiner.

ur acting like shaq didn’t have his own significant attitude problems, christian was a certified bucket there’s no denying it even if u hate him
Shaq wasn't on his level at this time that's a fact
