  • The LATERAL ANTEBRACHIAL CUTANEOUS Nerve (LACN) is an important peripheral nerve that innervates the lateral forearm, wrist, as well as the area of the hand around the base of the thumb.
It is a useful nerve to block, especially where motor-sparing anesthesia is desirable (bilateral radius fractures, minor or specialized surgery on the sorsolateral aspect of the hand, etc).
It is easily located at either (a) the elbow, using the key landmark of the cephalic vein; or (b) the wrist, using the key landmark of the brachioradialis muscle.
It is usually complemented with a block of the SUPERFICIAL RADIAL Nerve (see video here - • SUPERFICIAL RADIAL NER... ).

If not using a forearm tourniquet - and duration of upper arm tourniquet is going to be >30min, then propofol sedation usually takes care of the discomfort.
