We are sooooo fortunate to have people like Leonard Lee (Veritas, Lee Valley Tools) and Tom Lie-Nielsen. Woodwork has once again become a joy with higher quality tools than we have ever had access to previously. I have had Record and Stanley planes over the years but they do not hold a candle to these new tools and they are fragile as well as imperfect. Nice to take a well made tool out of a box and put it to work right away. Oddly thanks to Ebay the old less effective planes are selling for almost as much as these new tools. Last 2 purchases I saved money buying the newer Veritas. Up here in Canada the Lie-Nielsen tools are almost double the cost of the Veritas so its an easy choice. Either way they are a great improvement and a pleasure to use. Its like having a Rolls Royce parked in your backyard.
Tom is a good boss. I live in Taiwan. Most of the company moved to China to cut down the labor cost, and later they have to fight with the Chinese. You can't beat their price. It's a smart move to stay in US and make quality products.
Awesome!! Got started in metalworking, by making my own tools for woodworking. Now I'm a full time metal worker/machinist. Got my first Lie-Nielsen plane at 12 yrs old I think. Still use it! Love it all the more after seeing the shop.
Great video! I visited Lie-Nielsen Toolworks several years ago and met Tom in the showroom. Although I was only able to purchase a low angle block plane, it is exceptional in workmanship. The company has a very large presence at woodworking shows, not only with their tools on display, but allowing woodworkers the opportunity to handle and try them out. Made in America!
Fantastic stuff. Great video, with top notch editing and presentation. I'm a huge fan of Lie-Nielsen. I'm new to woodworking and I'm slowing getting a collection together. The fact that it's American made is appreciated, and this is all the way from the UK. Heirloom quality through and through and it just so happens that the owner and his team come across as super down to Earth too.
England aye?. I started very young and then went to high school which the main tool brand at trade school was English Stanley and Record / Marples and the Boxford lathe. In 1990's Record shipped their whole vise foundery to China and their tools are made their now...that sux not to mention the Colchester lathe.
conmanumber1. Well, technically, I did say the UK, but yes, it just so happens that I currently reside in England 😉 BUT, I’m not English! 😁 I may have a few Lie-Nielsen tools, but I started my woodworking tool collection with Record tools. I do have a few Stanley’s too, but my main ones are Record, which are really nice. And I absolutely agree that it’s a shame they aren’t made in the UK anymore, but sadly, that’s generally the case with a lot of brands that existed back then.
@@chm1701 if u can find a English made 6" Record quik release engineers vice, or wood work vice and Marples or Stanley chisels from the 1960's to early 80's era i reckon youll be made. Moore & wright of Sheffield, Eclipse are absolutely stunning premium engineers tools. That and Mitutoyo of japan only make one standard....(premium) and no budget.
Tyson I got to tell you I'm a woodworker a carpenter been one since 1979, in any case I've done a lot of really interesting projects I have had a very blessed life because of my skills and I am very familiar with lie Nielsen tools . I did not know that their facility was so beautiful I'm running out right now to Woodcraft and I'm going to buy a couple of Lee Nielsen planes just because ,I watch this video and not just that, the first video I saw of yours was because I'm interested in learning how to do CNC work on wood with that in mind your first video that I saw of you was the one where you talked about how you lost it all and how you prayed and how it all came back and your goals for the future and I've only been watching your videos for maybe three weeks and I really love your passion for life thank you Tony Tony's custom Construction
Most woodcrafts don't have LN planes. There was a dispute years ago about supply and WC has their own line of asian made planes, though some of the stores where the owners (not WC, but the store owners) had a good relationship with LN may still sell the planes. Most of their sales probably come through their website, and they travel around (or at least used to) and demonstrate their planes. LN's planes are exceptionally well made, but they're a little heavy if you're used to working with older tools. The weight detail is lost on most amateurs who only play with tools, but after a couple of hours of heavy use, you'll notice it.
Best tools and well worth the money I will always look to lie Nelson first for hand tools I am so happy with all their products keep up the amazing work guys!
keep em coming, Titan! I just got into cnc with fusion and my cnc shark hd4. it's truly am an answer to prayer! Was sick and tired of machine shops lead time and $$$$. it's awesome not having to wait or spend more $$$ to get prototypes built! My only regret is not doing it sooner.
Own many planes for fly rod building. Can’t find any better. Thanks for a great video. Love to see more American made companies exposed on your channel..God Bless
Too often these days manufacturers are making disposable tools, these tools are heirlooms which will give great life long service. It's fabulous that someone still has the old values. For me it started when I first bought my engineers chest when I was an apprentice
Until you hold one of these tools in your hand you can't understand the beauty of what LN has done for Woodworkers..And until you use one, you won't understand what LN has accomplished in the hand tool woodworking arena. I often leave my workshop at night and just pick up and marvel at my number 62 before I say goodnight. These are tools of legend, something that when you die someone cleaning up your belongings who knows nothing about tools stops and pauses and appreciates what they have in their hand. We all as Woodworkers owe a debt of gratitude to Thomas for filling this gap for us and doing it all in the US. He's the founder/creator of the hand tool renaissance, but more importantly a prime example the Made in the USA renaissance is real and possible and incredibly rewarding to US citizens. The tools are expensive, but I never think twice about it, they're worth every penny for many reason beyond the jobs we accomplish with them.
Lie Nelson tools are gorgeous and so are the prices. Lie is correct about the hand planes about smoothing the edges and making the bottoms flat, If you buy a hand plane from most manufactures they are sharp edges and dished bottoms. You have to spend a little bit of time shaping them up for precision work like cabinet making.
Made in America! I love it! I run haas everyday and the machines are good they hold tolerance pretty well I make die sets quite a bit with a haas vf6-50
What an awesome video! The only thing missing is the guest appearance by Gene Haas! There are few people I hold up as role models. Titan Gilroy, Thomas Lie Nielsen and Gene Haas! Keep up the fight for God, the United States and Family!
I like the Lie Nielsen tools a lot! I like even more traditional companies like LN and Titan, with owner who care for the company, for the customers and for the reputation of there products ! I hate cheap sh..t or average sh..t which is flooding the market with the customers who actually dont care for what they buying , whose only concern is price .
'Scuse me, but I think a big part of this vid was about how the use of CNC machines has improved the quality, and reduced the cost of these tools. How could you have missed that? Titan, though he appreciates hand-made excellence, is all about CNC machining.
Those may or may not be good. particle M4 and LV's V11 are probably what you're looking for. I just tested (and will publish) the V11 and 6 other irons and the particle metal irons that aren't super high vanadium carbide type (e.g., not 10V or anything like that) do very well. Large mix of carbides and powder, or heavy on chromium carbides and some other and lighter on the V is nice (PM M4 has a fair amount of vanadium in it, i guess). Lots of vanadium makes the irons very wear resistant, but it doesn't seem to provide quite as much benefit in wood as it must in metal or high wear industrial parts.
Hold up, was that double axe throw legit? Was it camera tricks, or did that Titan guy really nail a double axe throw after only some rudimentary instruction?
Lets make American great again, let us first cut the cord on oil imports, then military spending ,what if we invested those trillions we've spent on countless senseless wars in rebuilding Americans infrastructure ? . renewable ,green energy ,a modern high speed transit, rebuilding bridges, roadways,,etc How many jobs could we create ? millions of of men ,women [ military employee's ] could be put to work ,instead were subjected to watching them on the nightly news arriving home minus legs, arms,or in a pine box.For what ? oil ,that eventually will run out. Those same senseless wars have made American's feel unsafe, and rightfully so ,terrorist attacks have cost us billions of dollars in damages, including the loss of thousands of innocent lives [ 9/11 ] ,which in turn required us to spend billions more on home land security, the world hates us,it's time to make a change. As one example how we can start to turn off the facet for imported oil ,A 100 X 100 mile solar array, with a 1 mile by 1 mile battery [storage], is but a speck on the map ,could power Americans grid,. lets give incentives for electric car purchases, tax incentives for manufactures who supply some of there power needs with renewable, green energy ,etc,.Lets go back to making the world a better place ,not tearing it down.
Watch that large plane wobble back and forth as he pushes it on the wood. Thats not good. Better off using a power jointer with carbide tipped knives. Much faster and more efficient. Not saying these are not good tools but they are mostly for retired guys who have all the time in the world or for old style furniture makers so they can say they did it all by hand.

Like made in America and Dirty Jobs?
Wish there had been inspiring guys like you around when I was young.

Awesome video Titan ! I bought some of these tools a few years ago, always a pleasure to work with them, great to see what goes into making them.
Приятно смотреть на такую культуру производства. Образцовый завод, с которого необходимо брать пример. Спасибо!
Took a tour there several years ago. Incredible shop and amazing people. They even sent me home with some free curly maple and a few 6" rules
Well filmed and interviewed; great in-depth look at a top end manufacturer. Been a fan of Lie-Neilsen for many years and now subscribing to Titans!
Once again I love these episodes!
Beautiful tradition to technology. Great job.
Titan! Another awesome video! Keep up the great work you guys!

I love a good Factory tour, And what a Factory to visit! I really enjoyed that, It was quite the treat! Lie Nielsen Makes the best planers !

Northfield woodworking machinery would be another cool one to check out. Made in Northfield Minnesota. Big jointers, planers, saw etc.
Even if I never use them, I still order LN tools. Helping a great American company and it's an investment...period
Being a hobby woodworker, and a machinist/applications engineer for my profession, this makes me want to buy Lie-Nielson tools.
13:12 heyyy calm down titan, haha
Great video !
Yes, very cool. Wish I could afford them, still my hats off to them.
Jealous.
He has women working for him.
I have lie nielsen block skew plane it comes with a fence, superb plane.I have about 4 lie nielsen planes. delight to use.
I got a new game to play when watching TITAN... take a shot whenever he says "American Built" and "BooM!!"
Awesome!
Бездуховные машины делают духовные вещи...
Great program thank you .
Loved the video!
WOWEEE! I am suddenly a huge fan!

Lie Nelson is the best tools by far
Love these videos!
The true American factory!
good job sr.
Well done!
Maine has a lot of sad history with its people but a beautiful history.
I have heard of him before and it's all been positive 🤠
You have a typo in the description. You have Lielsen written in the description..
Niiice! I love CNC man

Tool finished it's cut.
God damn promo shots :))
Amazing tools! This is what makes America, America.
Yes!
Great video
... BOOM!
What is the website for Nielsen?
This metal piece is "unbreakable"......so how do you mill it?
What a stupid comment
We gotta make sure we put “woodworking” in front of tool maker different ball game lol
'Merica, Hoorah!
Not one of the best but the best 👍😊 I have 8 lie Nielsen planes and 2 sets of chisels..
As a machinist working in a much bigger shop almost right around the corner... I've heard it sucks working at Lie Nielsen.
You heard? You are a liar with zero proof
@@daveklein2826 Word of mouth from several former employees of Lie-Nielsen. Nobody I've talked to has had anything good to say about it.

Synchronicity in action. Using s lie nielson to clean up some dovetailed drawers and guess what popped up on youtube!

(I always thought that saying "first" was lame. But now that I am first, I can experience it first hand. It IS lame) lol

Mr Nielsens Daughter.

Not a singel exhaust on the machines. I bet the air quality in that place sucks ass.
Makes the best hand tools using CNC.oh the irony
we are expecting you to change to Meter mm and micron instead of foot and inches
Master Tool Maker? his tools are as good as his CNC machines make them
Tony Bell each took is touched, finished, assembled, and checked by hand. Honestly that's pretty impressive these days.
The CNC machine doesn’t make the tool... And if you watched the video, you’d realize he’s been doing this without CNC machines for a long time.
DI. Bet your whole shop smells like rotten eggs or a natural gas fire lol. I used to say that it smelled like money!
Where do you get your iron? DI is always porous. You need quite a bit of overstock from the riser end to get the Shi-er...impurities out.

My cheap electric plane works better , Lie-Nielsen is just overpriced
He is a wood worker not a tool maker
What a silly comment. He makes woodworking tools. Therefore, he's a toolmaker. He sells his tools to wood workers.
Did you watch the video? The man makes woodworking tools.
