      My favorite part is when Sol asks, "What are you?" and the Acolyte answered, "I am... the Acolyte..." It was truly one of the scenes of all time, it was even better than the part when the Acolyte said, "It's Acolytin' time!" and Acolyted the Jedi all over the place using the Power of Many. But what really sold it for me was the shocking plot twist in the finale when we realized that Qimir was in the Amazon with Osha's mom when she was researching spiders right before she died. The Acolyte was truly one of the most shows ever created, and it even Acolyted my highest expectations. 10/10 would watch again.

      I think he gave Fisher some (not very convincing) story about why she couldn't wear a bra. And there was a bizarre photo shoot that seemed to involve slave Leia and darth vader on a beach. But I think most of that stuff was treated with a level of embarrassment - and 'corrected'. The slave leia thing could be defended as coding that Leia was a humiliated trophy - if taking it as face value meant that Jabba was into other species. She killed him with her chain (ie. the instrument of her subjugation), didn't she?

    I was left with the impression that Sol always knew that twin was Mae. You could see it in the hug scene for example, he regrets whatever happened to her and was talking to her as if she was Osha to play along to see where she would go.
    Even if it is not so, Sol just happened to experience a very very traumatic encounter with Qimir, when they [Jedi] initiallly thought they were just going after Mae. I believe it would be ok if he was unrest, tired, toughtful, mourning after what happened (maybe they just could have portrayed it better?).
    Regarding the shirtless - I am hetero but I am ok with that it is very natural (maybe it is my european vibe - i know americans are very prude). But never happened? Remember when Leia was like enslaved by Jabba? She was more than shirtless 🤣

      +1 on the impression that Sol knew all along, figuring out how far Mae would go.
      To me, the Osha/Quimir scenes were quite good, TBH. I think, it shows, how the dark side like trust issues, fear and hate can overwhelm you.
      It's already been shown in the transformation from Anakin to Vader - you don't just *popp* become evil, and to some extend there's no 100% wrong or right/good or evil.
      If they wanted it, to me that nailed that message quite well.

      @@DarkestKnightshadeI have to agree with you on that, but the writing just seems off. I also feel this shouldn't have been the introduction to the high republic. Only your true die hard star wars fans get what is trying to be portrayed while everyone else is lost bc they only know what they've seen from the previous films and shows, which the high republic is opposite it was the Jedi at there highest point to eventually there down fall before the phantom menace. If you have to watch review shows to understand what is supposed to be going on for the avg watcher than your show isn't written well. I think the bad acting goes in hand with bad writing. If the actor is great or strong and the writing isn't good than the acting will follow suit. If the writing is really good it can help the avg actor along with a good director. The 2 male actors Sol and QMIR are doing the best they can with what they got written for them. Amandala has some moments but the facial expressions look exactly the same for everything. Maybe no one is telling her different, hopefully it's not a case of everyone gets a trophy so no one's feelings get hurt

    • @tonkey2005
      @tonkey2005 2 дні тому +1

      @@furious_wrath7079 i mean you do realise we are in the period of time where the downfall of the high republic begins right? The jedi at this stage dominate, but the are starting to become arrogant and complacent, as is seen, they arent taking these incidents as serious as they should. They demand kids to be tested, even in areas they technically dont have jurisdiction. They enforce behavior that isnt right (forsaking all emotions etc.)
      Luke was one of the greatest jedi ever and had emotions. He learned of the force when he was pretty much an adult. The entire first 3 episodes are about showing the mistakes of the jedi. The original trilogie is about showing the return of true jedi values. The jedi are good and try to be good but they never are perfect beings. They make mistakes and even bad things at times, even if with good intentions.
      sadly it seems starwarstheories is pretty blind to things that have always been part of star wars just because he ideologically doesnt seem to like this series. It aint great, its meh, but it aint as dogshit as many are trying to make it seem and therefore invalidating alot of the actual critique.

      Yeah it’s also bollocks. The force isn't some radar that's constantly turned on. Vader (THE CHOSEN ONE) didn't instantly detect his own flesh and blood with either Leia OR Luke.
      Yoda, oh the great powerful Yoda was constantly going on about darkness clouding everything.
      Sol clearly has a lot on his mind, for one thing. Secondly, HE FIGURED OUT IT WAS MAE! There was no scene where that creature went and informed him. He figured it out via context clues, through convesation about her childhood and Pip. They didn't do the best job of portraying it but he did.

OSHA already knows this and she knows the Jedi didn't immediately kill her when she was their prime suspect. She knows the Jedi didn't kill Qimir when he sold the poison used to kill another Jedi. She knows the Jedi didn't kill her sister when they finally caught up to her. She knows Qimir attacked her and the Jedi from behind, even though they didn't know anything about him and were only there to arrest her sister. The icing on the cake is her knowing that Sol had an opening to take Qimir's head off and he didn't do it.
    There's no case that could be made to a person with a proper functioning brain that Smilo was defending himself. That would only work if OSHA didn't see all these things that contradict that narrative firsthand.

    It's sad to see Theory become what he used to protect against. I agree that his criticisms have nothing to do with race/identity/etc... but... he's gatekeeping Star Wars, and getting lazy on remembering details. When the prequels came out, there were so many who criticized how crazy it was to introduce these huge, 'whacky' new concepts (like midichlorian) to the lore that seemed to totally deviate from the continuity of the original trilogy. Yet, like Theory used to advocate for - it brought many new people in to Star Wars. I grant that back then it was George doing the 'branching' and not Disney, but still - these are people who are passionate about Star Wars trying new things, even when I don't like it myself. The constant negativity and gatekeeping are tiresome. More sad however is the constant missteps for a 'lore master'. For example, calling out the duel in Ep5 for 'how unrealistic that it is the padawan who holds their own instead of the master jedi' in the saber duel (who was it that defeated Darth Maul again?), or in this video, how "Star Wars doesn't show skin" (Leia with Jabba, anyone?), or Jedi don't eat on screen (huh?).... so many 'callouts' that are just... objectively wrong. As Theory says, we're all entitled to like or not like the content. Not suggesting he 'should' like it. But do wish he'd go back to welcoming people TO Star Wars, not just gatekeeping George Lucas. Do wish he'd go back to consistently being the loremaster - instead of conveniently forgetting to push some more negativity...

      While I agree that certain things under heavy fire are a little out of proportion, it's hard to really defend a 'new thing' if the new thing isn't really all that good. For example, the witches referring to the Force as the Thread, imo wasn't really all that bad. They were secluded and weren't hammered with the concept of the Force like the rest of the galaxy. They grew up with their own interpretation of it, and that's fine. What's not fine is destroying the concept of Force conception with the idea that random witches can do it on call.
      I think where Disney as a whole f****ed up is when they did away with all the SW media we fans grew up loving and saying it wasn't canon, in favor of whatever the hell they made up. I always thought the coolest thing SW could do was adapt the Old Republic into a show or movie. A time where there were armies of Jedi and Sith duking it out... a time where there were way more Mandalorians... etc. But then Disney said no, and started doing their own thing. Many were open minded at first, and then the 'new things' just didn't hit with viewers. Instead of bringing people in, it's turning people away.
      Doesn't help that a lot of their writing choices are deliberately done bc of pandering to certain 'concepts'. There are tons of IPs that have included people of different lifestyles and backgrounds that people love, but the difference between them and stuff like this is 1. the marketing and 2. the delivery. Shows like this do it in such an obnoxious way that people hate it and see it as 'agenda'. When the director and actress being interviewed giggled happily about it all, it told many fans to expect a story that was going to tell them how to view people and not decide for themselves.
      I agree, some call outs that you just named are a bit petty and not the core of the problem, but that doesn't change that there is indeed a problem. Theory has pointed out lore problems with this show, but since he is doing it on an episode by episode basis, he has to simply address what he feels about this specific one. His other videos on episodes with lore breaking content, he addresses respectively.

    Regarding the nudity and sexual tension:
    George did write and film slave-girl Leia. There is precedent of random semi-nudity.
    The nudity there however served a purpose where this show just throws it in for noting. RotJ used it to humiliate Leia and establish the hedonism of Jabba. In this show its purely eye-candy for the female 'audiance'

    Bro the sexual tension is a bit nit picky. George specifically had carrie be braless in her princess outfit, then there's the slave outfit. You could say he turned it down in the prequels but even then both ayla and padme had some casual midrift. Lets be real this scene had more sexual tension in it than the entirety of Anakins relationship on screen. Why does starwars have to be so good yet so bad at the same time its wild...

    • @dmchai8401
      @dmchai8401 2 дні тому +4

      Definitely agree. I don't know why he says those types of scenes are unnecessary when Slave Leia sets a huge precedent. I also think his gripe about showing Jedi eating is stupid. The force stopping you from needing to poop and eat is really dumb, and I hope that's not a canon thing. How does needing to eat detract from someone who can block blaster fire, force push, and read the minds and intentions of people? Another comment also mentioned Yoda cooking in Empire.

I disagree with the notion of Jedi being larger than life to an extent, you don’t really need to be told that they take shits, that’s just common sense, you can see Jedi multiple times drinking (Anakin and Obi-Wan in Hondo’s bar) or eating (Anakin and Padme, or Anakin and Ahsoka going to a diner) which that kinda thing I feel builds relatability with the characters.
