Hi there. I have a 2020 Topps Opening Day “Diamond Autograph Relics” JD Martinez SSP #’d/15 (odds of pulling it are 1:127,000!!). The card contains actual dirt used during a game at Fenway Park, and it’s autographed; very tough to find. Just listed it on eBay if your dad is interested….
I came across your channel from current to past - I'm watching every video when I can. This negotiation is one of the best I've watched. Both of you knew what value was there, even if he started high, and still came down with negotiating other cards or boxes into the hand. Amazing - from watching current videos to 2 years ago - I love them!
That negotion was rough. He seemed like a really good dude and you handled yourself very well. You guys started really far apart and you had a lot of skin in the game before you even made your first offer. Well done sir, hopefully he'll sell you the "good stuff".
Great episode! I have so many observations! The first is that it seemed like one thing that was making negotiations tough was that Joey was having a hard time separating market value from dealer value. You both agreed that the one section of higher end cards had a market value of about $16k. However when you were offering $15k for everything he was saying that you would only be paying for the high end section and getting the rest for free. However, once you remove the percentage from the market value because you’re basically a dealer and need room to make money, you’re paying a lower amount for the higher end cards than the $16k and you’re paying a few grand for the rest. So, I think maybe he realized that in the end and you guys made a good deal for both of you. I really liked how when you realized that you were way apart from each other in price, you broke it up into sections so that you could get on the same page. Once you both walked through each section Joey went from thinking everything had a market value of $50k to closer to $20k. Finally, I disagree that a modern PSA 9 has the same value as a raw. I think the more commonly accepted idea is that PSA 8’s and raw are the same value. I know you showed an example, but I think funky things happen sometimes with sales. I just looked up the same Bobby Witt Jr. card you guys were discussing, and there was a raw and PSA 9 that sold on the same day. The raw sold for around $650 and the 9 sold for around $850. Especially with 2020 Bowman Chrome, I would never pay the same price for a raw as I would a 9. 2020 Bowman Chrome has so many centering issues it’s a tough set. You’re definitely taking a gamble buying raw. I think a lot of people buy raw with the hopes of getting it graded and having it come back a 10, but that’s highly unlikely with the 2020 Bowman Chrome set. Keep up the great work you guys!
This is by far my favourite thing to watch on cards, honestly can’t get enough of it, it builds my passion for cards even stronger each episode, love and appreciate the work you put in to give us, you don’t even need a huge production company just perfect the way it is!
The negotiations were my favorite part of this video and you could teach a class using just that part of the video. Very fair on both sides you both left thinking you did well plus when the negotiations started to get heated you both were able to diffuse and sidestep the issue coming back to it later. Both got a good deal and that’s good to see now-a-days I’m the hobby, well done.
Fantastic guys. I can see the bond that built up just like that ! Both of you know the grind and it's not easy out here. Such a refreshing change from all these box openings/break channels to see something really interesting. I am looking forward to seeing channels like this in Australia where you get to see the personalities and stories behind the cards. The beating old school heart of the hobby. Well done again.
I am new to the hobby just this past year, what a phenomenal video. I feel like I’m watching a TV show and learning a ton in the process. Appreciate everything you do.
I think Joey struggles with what I and many other collectors struggle with. Emotional attachment. I've never sold a card myself. I've given away stuff that had not much of value to me but anything that I've been attached to I just have a hard time getting rid of it. That's quite an impressive collection he's built up. Good, fun episode!
This was my favorite episode by far. Really great to see two collectors work together to keep a deal fair and make the deal happen. Making that connection was the most important thing, he seemed to be a cool guy that loved the hobby and one day he might want to sell the rest and you'll be one of the first people he thinks of when he does because of this experience. Great job guys!
I’ve collected my whole life. I can’t even begin to comprehend trying to put a value on a collection like that. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable, but at the same time I’m a collector. I only know prices of stuff I collect and I’m looking for all the time. Can’t imagine trying to have a little knowledge on everything out there ….. when the sellers of these massive collections start pricing stuff they don’t understand the massive amount of time and effort it takes the potential buyer to even get 85% of value
Gr8 collection of cards Ty.. The negotiation was really brutal but worked out well for all involved.. The Prime Cuts signatures and relics collection is very very cool.. Thanks for taking us along.. Congrats on getting the deal done on this incredible collection Ty.. Well done guys.. Take care all..👍💕🔥⚾🤙
30:49 I wonder if you guys make great mystery packs with all the overburden of stars and semi-stars. Still have Great value for new collectors and make room.
When you bring in a reseller, the most powerful negotiating tool is to have your stuff priced. With documents to back your prices. Great video. This was fun and Joey seems really awesome.
Incredible episode. You guys continue to amaze me with the variety. This one felt intense, but the respect that was being shown was refreshing. Thanks so much for your commitment!
Good video to show how proper negotiation should be done, kudos to both parties. There have been many times through the years, where buys have been clouded by the sellers emotional connection to their collection. Sometimes, this will create an unspoken animosity in the seller. Sadly, once that happens it is almost impossible to close a deal. When "price" is attached to the intrinsic emotional value the seller has for their collection. I can respect and understand their emotional connection, but there is no way I can pay added value for such a thing. Thanks for sharing.
Ty that was fantastic work! I have negotiated 100s of deals in my day and you were masterful. So many excellent points in that discussion. Your outward temperament was so dang good. Way to be fair, transparent and honest which are a lost art these days. Awesome episode and so much for folks to consume. This is a must watch over and over! Here is the takeaway... always be a good person first and you always seem to nail it.
That was fantastic to watch. It helped that he really wanted to make the deal and negotiate too. I also liked how you refocused him on the different “stacks” and getting him to value them.
I think Joey needs to setup at a decent sized show one weekend with his extra inventory to see how he'd do. Not sure if he'd get close to what he thinks stuff is worth or if he'd be way off. It's hard to know those things until you've really put in major work to sell a lot of stuff in that fashion.
This was fantastic to watch and very well made- im jealous of that deal- i never understand why these guys just dont sell themselves- you can list a lot of cards instead of negotiating for 2 days
Easily will make at least double your money and when the graded stuff comes back, probably even more. Guarantee we see an update episode later on in the year showing some of the "hidden gems" that were "found" and probably graded that fetched a hefty return.
The negotiable with Joey was super interesting and really helpful for me to understand. He is a totally good guy. I think it’s a big difference between a seller/ collector/ buyer and someone who is a pure collector. I’m someone who is a pure collector so far and trying to get better at selling some cards at shows and eBay, but it can be hard to sell not just from an emotional attachment but from a point of view of what you think it’s worth because you paid for it, you’ve had it for a long time and you’ve worked a lot to organize and care for them. But from the buyer/ seller side I 100% understand the approach and offer. I really appreciated your descriptions and definition on market value and everything. I think it was a completely fair and good offer and I like how you kept engaging with him for a good deal. It was very helpful seeing his thought process and yours on all of this. I hope you’re able to do another deal with him soon!!
Thanks for watching, and the input! This is one of those collections that we look back on, and we’re so happy we did not pay more than we did, some of these cards are still in our eBay store and have not sold, and as you know, the card prices are dropping like crazy. So you have to think about the future and your inventory if reselling.
Great episode! Definitely the most interesting negotiation so far and even I was a little tense. Hahaha Always looks forward to the next episode. Thanks for sharing!
I think seeing the negotiation side is great cuz some of us never get to experience that or see it. Yes at times it can get uncomfortable but that's just the name of the game, as long as you're still being respectful and reasonable. It isn't for everyone and can be seen as "taboo", one way or another y'll met in the middle and both sides felt good with the deal. Most important part even if y'll didn't do a deal is building that relationship.
Great episode and negotiation. Really great to look at a collection and see the pride the owner takes in it like Joey has with his collection. Cheers guys

I’m guessing it was pretty intense for a bit! Looks like you got a lot of awesome stuff! I’m late to catch this episode, it came out while I was at the National! 😁
amazing episode. in a way this is like an episode of scared straight. i could see myself ending up in this situation. taking on inventory without moving anything and then having your expectations shattered when you realize you’re paying someone to put in the work of selling, which is what you refused to do the point that you find yourself in this mess.

What a great video. I loved watching the negation. Keep up the great content.
Thank you 8B!
Wow, what a long negotiation!
And that's the condense version! :-)
Great episode
Thank you!!
What a beautiful film , and in the end everybody’s happy ! For the love of cards 🤜🤛 greetings from Belgium , Europe 😁
Nice! Thanks for tuning in!! How is card community in Belgium?
Any interest selling the prime cuts Don Mattingly? If so do you have an ebay or web store?
Fantastic
Bro you gotta buy one of those big fuel efficient super vans they sell nowadays. My buddy just got one for laying carpet and the shelving and ability to customize before buying would be perfect. It would be a significant cost upfront but probably save you $ in the long term. Awesome stuff! As always
Not a bad idea!
Who didn't see that coming....I'm not giving a bulk discount on TB12 either.
Awesome episode! Thanks for letting us ride along in the chase. Cheers!
Absolutely! Appreciate you tuning in.
Great channel! I bought a box of 1993 Topps series 1 from you guys and thanks for throwing your card in the box! Would have never known about this channel!
Thanks for the purchase! That 93 box came out of an upcoming episode from Tulsa. Did you pull any Jeters?
@@thepullsportscards Not yet. I have only opened one pack so far. That’s how my channel works 1 pack at a time. I have a crazy amount of patience 😂

Joey should sell shirts - very cool!
When I saw those boxes sitting there in Josh’s garage I had a funny feeling it was going to be all junk wax! Fantastic watching the negotiating between you and Joey! I’m guessing it was pretty intense for a bit! Looks like you got a lot of awesome stuff! I’m late to catch this episode, it came out while I was at the National! 😁
Thanks Jim! Joey was outstanding...it was definitely awkward for a bit, but a healthy back-and-forth. How did you like the National?
The National was amazing! So many sweet cards and awesome people! Can’t wait for next year! 😆
Please breakdown the financials on this one. I’ve got to know the results of the sales.
It’s coming. Don’t worry :-)
Man that was intense!
Thanks Toa!!!
That negotiation was awesome!
Thank you Paul!
Damn, I wish I could collect vintage sports cards. I'm in South Korea and there are like two card shops here and they all sell modern-day cards
eBay? Maybe online purchasing is the way to go for you. (And thanks for watching from South Korea! )
I'm a Bobby Witt Jr. and Royals super fan myself. He's a great kid.
Heck yeah!
Gotta love the hustle!! Great episode and channel. Love it
Thank you!!!
That was a fantastic video. Left me guessing what you were going to end up at. Good deal on both sides for sure.
Thank you John!
@@CHASINGCARDBOARD you bet. Keep up the good work.
amazing episode. in a way this is like an episode of scared straight. i could see myself ending up in this situation. taking on inventory without moving anything and then having your expectations shattered when you realize you’re paying someone to put in the work of selling, which is what you refused to do the point that you find yourself in this mess.
I know Joey. He comes to the local shows and trades with my son. Great guy!!
Love the videos! Very high quality production!
Awesome episode.
Appreciate it !
Wow a great episode! A real tough conversation you had. Great show man!
Negotiations like that make me nervous!
Appreciate it!!! Yeah it was a fun one …Joey was awesome to work with
Great episode. You guys put on a great show. Camera work is awesome. Thank you for the great content.
Really appreciate that Toby! (Matt is amazing with his camera!)
I love this dude Joey- and he’s an Oregon guy too. Also I swear I saw what looked like a BRoy logoman in there 🤔
Joey is awesome!! And no…no BRoy logo man :-(
that was great
Thank you RG!
Great episode and great negotiation --- that's how it should be done. American Pickers is one of my favorite shows and this reminds me of it except it is 100% focused on my favorite hobby. Loving the show!
Thank you Dominic!!
Holy crap guys! This was phenomenal, literally TV style. Amazing stuff!
Is this your first episode to watch? You should check out the others!!! Amazing.
Thank sooo much!
