I’m excited by a brand that DOESN’T just make stodgy pens that look like every other pen. My friend said “now you can write stories AND cast spells”, and I so loved that! At some point, I’ll probably buy a “plain” but high end pen that has a great gold nib, but I’d rather have a great writing experience in ALL aspects, including a unique aesthetic.
It is great that Benu is creating interesting and fun pens. If ever there is something that is a matter of personal taste and not some universal aesthetic value, it is pens (and brussel sprouts, I like brussel sprouts).
Their previous offerings didn’t interest me that much but this seems like a step in the right direction, some of the darker coloured finishes look really nice. As for schmidt, they also make nibs (via jowo) for Faber Castell so I don’t doubt their performance, they seem like lovely writers from the writing sample!
I have been watching a lot of pen videos...I just found yours and it is one of the best ones I have watched in the last week. Thank you! Your humor and overall personality were really refreshing. Thank you so much!
You are so honest and hilarious, too! I love how you expose the selfish proclivities of human nature. Your pen reviews are very helpful, too! Mary from Rhode Island
Thank God I saw your review first, because I trust you. I impulsively purchased the Euphoria New Year 2021 fountain pen tonight. I do like the glitter and glow-in-the-dark features. I also love a pen that is not perfectly round, I get lazy and set the pen down. Often times catching my Kaweco Supra or Lilliput Fire Blue just before it rolls off of my journal. Bless you, happy holidays, and stay safe!
I just got the glow in the dark model in the mail -- I like the pen but I wish I'd bought one of the other color options. The transparent blue lets you see a lot of imperfections where the cap meets the finial, and the design of the acrylic really reads as imbalanced to me, now that I'm seeing it in person. Not bad, just not necessarily what I wanted for this price. Hey, though -- writes like a dream. At the end of the day that's really what I want out of a pen.
See, I thought I was "done" collection fountain pens. I have my rainbow made of Lamy Safaris, TWSBI Ecos and Pilot Metros. Then I found out about these...beautifully garish rainbow monsters. Well...guess I better start saving.
I just got the Vodka on the Rocks, and it’s so ME (sparkly and totally extra). It’s my first “intermediate” fountain pen and my second fountain pen overall, and I’m OBSESSED.
Trying to find a unique and cute pen that i can draw with...and ive been curious about fountain pens...im seriously concidering one of the benu euphoria to b my first fountain pen
I bought the 3 Benus that I have--and a fourth is on the way--BECAUSE they are gaudy (or, kitschy, if you prefer). I have plenty of staid, conservative, "business" pens. My Benus write well, but the single fine nib does not write as well as the two mediums. The nibs are screw-in units; the section is separate. I don't see any utility in having a glow-in-the dark pen. If you plan to write with it, you'll need to turn on a light, which will help you locate the pen.
I am a newbie to the world of fountain pens and I see a number of people talking about the ' wet' writing qualities of a pen, as if this was a good thing. I am concerned about the possibility of smearing what I have written and have started selecting fine nibs. Why is the degree of wetness, considered a good thing? I have an Esterbrook; which does write wet, and two Benu pens; the Euphoria Pomegranate Wine and the Venus's Hair. The Essie is the beautiful Northern Lights in Manitoba Blue.
I just added the grand scepter in broad to my collection and the pen is GORGEOUS but I have to say that the grip section is sooo very thin that it is difficult to get a decent grip on it.
Thanks Stephen for another great review and for the two previous BENU reviews. You have manage to capture the beauty of the unique BENU finishes better than anyone. They are beautiful and I know folks who do or would like them and they are a great addition to the world pen offerings. Not so much for myself, but hey as the saying goes “there is no accounting for taste.” Take me for example Ha, Ha, I love the Parker 51 and have always wanted a Lamy 2000 since the early 80s. Still haven’t bought a 2000 yet, probably since my 21s,, 51s, & 61s, work so well. I’m glad we balance each other out so the planet does not wobble to much -viva la difference. This BENU I like, traditional shape and I too like faceted pens, particularly on swirly, and multicolor finishes. I may have to pick one up, because it glows in the dark, been looking for a reliable glow in the dark pen for years. For my glow in dark need see my reply to M Collins below. Stay healthy and keep doing what you are doing.
Very nice looking pens. My favourites of the Benu offerings. Not my personal cup of tea but I can certainly think of one who would love one. I think your review was spot on and funny.
Stephen thanks for the review, very informative and fun as always. This model of Benu is particularly tempting, as the previous models I found interesting, but not to my taste. This being a more "standard" shape appeals to me more, and I do think they have a fun take on the materials.
I recently bought my very first BENU - the Cult Pens birthday limited edition. I'd ummed and ahed for a while over getting one, and wish I'd bought one ages ago - it's such a good pen! It's writes so well, even using a tricky ink. Buy one! It was lovely to see you using Tender Purple - my favourite purple ink. So very often overlooked in favour of fancier brands.
I like these a lot. They are good looking -- not too gaudy. I remember the first Benu pen I ever saw -- the Parrot. It was just so strange. Great review.
I love that’s what she said jokes. I’ve watched a million reviews on the euphoria but I think after yours I will pull the trigger and get one. Now to decide which model....
I dearly love my Benu pens! I have Briolettes, Scepter’s, Euphoria’s ad Minima’s. I have nibs ranging from fine to broad and i enjoy them all for different reasons. These aren’t pens for everyone unless of course you are a person who likes to smile, because these pens will make you do that .
Thank you for the review - really tempting. Over the last weeks I was thinking about getting a Leonardo Momento Zero Grande Dark Hawaii - but I am hesitating because I like the Blue Hawaii with the slightly brighter colours more (but there is no Grande version of it). The Euphoria Bora Bora version imho looks amazing - like a breaking wave. Maybe the gold flakes are over the top but they could pass as sand. :-) The only thing I would like to see is a matching grip section - imo the black section is like having a strikingly shiny car but under the hood there is the 25 year old Volkswagen Diesel (nothing wrong with a Volkswagen Diesel - it will get you there, but it's nothing to brag about :-) ).
Hi, good point and me too! I bought my Euphoria before I bought my Leonardo Exclusive Momento Zero Grande and I must say I like the Euphoria and use it more than I thought I would.
I think benu pens have been beautiful for a while(not sure how old the company is) but the grip sections always look goofy, like using shift on the first letter of the sentence when you have caps on
Very nice writers, I see. Those who join me in finding these finishes too garish, take a look at the Hexagon-F model, which is relatively understated and to my eye quite beautiful. Very tempting. Thanks for the review.
I only wish we could combine our own models and designs. The Minima and Briolette have some of my favourite designs but I don't like their design and nib size as much.
Are you able to interchange the grip section of this pen with the Benu pen models that use #5 nibs? (I’m curious to see if Benu uses the same grip section between their #5 and #6 pen models) thanks!
Great review, this brand does not get me mostly for it value, the materials don't seem enough to me to pay the price of the product, is a new brand I know but others consolidates brands have fountain pens with more quality with this price.
When I started getting into fountain pens, Benu pens was not on my radar. Over time though, I kept eyeing them with curiosity. Well needless to say, I now own 3 and love them. Thanks for the review! On a side note, what’s the deal with the skeleton?
I think this is my favorite Benu design. I like faceted pens. I like the funky color schemes. Also - I'm not a fan of the Parker 51 or the L2K - I don't like the grips. I'm glad I'm not the only non-fan. I'm happy for the folks who like them.
I love these things, and youtube has figured that out and the algo is just showing me Benu review after Benu review. These pens are just done right. They balance form and function and I can tell nothing was sacrificed to make it prettier at the cost of working properly. Even some things that I thought were pure aesthetics, I have discovered as my collection grows, actually are quite practical. Glow in the dark? Oh that's cute. Yeah ALSO I can find it no matter what. That's great. More pens should glow in the dark.
Sadly, these sections are too tiny for me, but I love the colors and designs! So fun and also glow in the dark. Are there larger sizes for these models?
That's what she said?!! I almost choked when you said that. 😂. I've been on the fence about these pens but a "good writer out of the box" got my attention.
That's so funny: I agree with you about personal likes and how we all differ -- *and I inherited from my grandad a Parker 51!* (He used it every day for 70 years, and now I use it every day, and it writes like a dream.) That said, I am getting my mouth in shape -- or should that be my hand -- for a Benu Euphoria (probably the Bora Bora). Cheers! Update: OK, I've recovered myself. No Russian bling for me. Phew!
I really really really like these new ones, the shape looks more traditional than the others. Now I think I may need to add a Benu to my list of future pens. :)
When they were side by side, the top one looked slightly longer. Is this normal for the different colours or my perception or paralax or dodgy eyesight?
If Benu would make a few without the metal flake and colors I like I would spend my money with them. Several models appeal to me as far as their design but the colors and glittery bits are too much for me.
sbrebrown that is such a strange thing. The unanswerable question is “why would people take the time to be idiots?” Do they take it personally? I don’t like the Benu pens, but I love them for coming out with new pens. Lamy as well. I don’t know why but I can’t stand the Safari. But I appreciate they help keep fountain pens alive. Thanks Dr. B. You have kept me in the hobby.
It does not make sense to me either, as I don’t write in the dark either and it’s only dark in house when I sleep. And in light glow in the dark material does not appeal to me. But people seem to find it awesome?
Well I suppose since photographers no longer work in dark rooms they don’t need glow in dark pen. But, I can tell you as one has been looking for a reliable glow pen for years. As an amateur astronomer, I might pick one of these glowing Euphorias up. As a faceted pen it might roll off your observing desk a bit less and when it does: turn off your dim night vision red light and bingo, there is the pen glowing green in the tall wet weeds under the scope tripod right where you were about to step while trying to find the thing. Or right where you left it in the eyepiece box. Extra bonus use green ink in pen and under dim night vision red, it looks jet black. Check your notes in daylight/room light later and what is written in green are your real-time in the dark notes. The same is true for planetarium directors, lecturers, and show producers who often work for hours in total darkness with only fake starlight and/or one dim red reading light. Just steel and wood control desks, chair legs, etc., to navigate on on all fours to retrieve a wayward pencil or pen to make an important real-time note. It gets worse, I and co-workers have experienced such moments often accompanied by a thump followed, if not by an oath an owww. Not good if it happens during a show with 45 people a few feet away immersed in the show. In all these scenarios flashlights white or bright red are not an option -destroys, depending upon the person, “night vision” for 8 to 20 minutes.
I’m excited by a brand that DOESN’T just make stodgy pens that look like every other pen. My friend said “now you can write stories AND cast spells”, and I so loved that! I like Brussels sprouts as well. They really don’t like me, though

A good straight forward review, no music or cut aways to comic relief!
I just ordered this today in the French Poetry, B - before watching this! I didn't want to miss the sale, so now I'm crazy happy. Thanks Stephen!
I just got the Vodka on the Rocks, and it’s so ME (sparkly and totally extra). It’s my first “intermediate” fountain pen and my second fountain pen overall, and I’m OBSESSED.
Ohh! The waterman purple ink looks so nice! I’m gonna get it since I don’t have purple ink

Never used it, but it's one of my grails. Pilot Custom 823 as the pen for everyone??
For me it’s not interesting at all (looks and size), nice try though 😎😊
The 823 cracks easily if taken apart, and you can't replace the nib very easily. That's a problem for someone who really wants their pens to last.
Very nice looking pens. My favourites of the Benu offerings. Not my personal cup of tea but I can certainly think of one who would love one. I think your review was spot on and funny.

The blue two-tone looks rather nice. Some of the previous models look like the keys to Superman's Fortress of Solitude.
I like these a lot. They are good looking -- not too gaudy. I remember the first Benu pen I ever saw -- the Parrot. It was just so strange. Great review.
Let them send one more ... and ... we have Wolverine 😋
Good review. And a message. That some people need to hear . Hope you and yours are well

Benu euphoria or diplomat aero. Which is a better pen overall. I love fine smooth nibs. I am confused between the two.

Not a fan of the other benu models, but this one is is a bit closer to typical while still being different and I quite like it
You should review the fpnibs full flex modified jowo nib. I want to see if the service is actually worth it.
Thank you for defending my sparkly favorites! You just got a new sub for it 🥰
Sadly, these sections are too tiny for me, but I love the colors and designs! So fun and also glow in the dark. Are there larger sizes for these models?
I'm going to sample the "oooh but they are so gaudy" and put it in a song

Love this video. Thank you!

I really really really like these new ones, the shape looks more traditional than the others. Now I think I may need to add a Benu to my list of future pens. :)
Thank you for this reviews, makes me think of this Benu model. Looks better than the weird Briolette.
This is the first Benu model that has seriously tempted me.
I think this is an attractive and interesting offering from Benu. BIG step forward IMO.
BENU does facets fairly well
When they were side by side, the top one looked slightly longer. Is this normal for the different colours or my perception or paralax or dodgy eyesight?
I think it's just a perceptual thing: they're the exact same size in real life
Very good reviews, this looks more like for ladies, maybe use for home.
What notebook do you use for the writing samples?
Rhodia
Looking good, like the review thnxs.....price to high for me (ok i'm from Holland all are on the cheap....lol)
Dubai it! Love language. Sometimes it makes its own jokes! Thanks for the good and energetic review! All best.
My bottom lip is trembling Brown, I've just had had a pen choice lashing of the first order.
Eh. Am I the only one who actually prefers the crazy ridicolous shapes of the chamaleon and sceptre and briolette? I really don’t like the clip.
If Benu would make a few without the metal flake and colors I like I would spend my money with them. Several models appeal to me as far as their design but the colors and glittery bits are too much for me.
I like it! I am buying it! Nuff said!
So you don’t want us to say weather we like a pen or not?
You absolutely can, as long as it is done respectfully, which some people don't
sbrebrown that is such a strange thing. The unanswerable question is “why would people take the time to be idiots?” Do they take it personally? I don’t like lamys but this appeals to me.
That was a nice "whooooooop"! :-D
HA HA HA HA HA... that's what she said! (I'm easily entertained)
Why have a pen that glows in the dark?
