Pleasure To Kill bro I grew up with hair metal and grunge rock and classic country like george strait and Travis tritt. You need love in your life brother. Sorry for your hate

Dude, stop being 11 for like 6 seconds for Eddie
R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen. Heaven’s got another legendary guitarist/front man
This one seems to have caught up with him. Always to early. Eh?
GOAT
Legend lives on Eddie Van Halen R.I.P
I’m down with that, except Eddie wasn’t really the front man.
RIP Eddie
For anyone who was 15 years old in 1978, when this album was released, you know the impact it made. Eddie's insane and different guitar left a lot of people not knowing what was going on. How was it possible to get those harmonics and that tapping technique? Eddie was an alien...R.I.P.
I was 12 but definitely got into them a few yrs later and now at 57 still a fan
Was 10 years old. Wore that record out..picked up my first guitar at 11 , jumping off furniture because of this. Never knew the intro was car horns. I even installed 8 in my car to make the same noise.(dumb) RIP King Edward. The rock word continues on as you set the bar for guitarists for generations.
@@lisacline4975 im 54, never saw Daves VH, the 5150 tour i did. I think they went downhill on 1984 album. It wasnt the "in your face" rocking!
The VH logo will be inked on me in Feb.
LONG LIVE ROCK!!!
I was only 10at the time life changing
born in 1962 so fortunate
Can we recognize how *funky* Van Halen was? It was heavy metal, but the grooves are a MILE deep in the pocket, it had so much soul.
I was 14 years old when Diver Down came out, which meant it was a staple in my suburban redneck high school. I was, of course, entirely unequipped to understand what went into a band, and the mugging David Lee Roth you see in this video was the only one I recognized. "Ice Cream Man" -- when I finally heard it -- was my first solid clue that this band was mining musical history that I knew nothing about.
Definitely not heavy metal, but metal nonetheless.
What does that mean, "deep in the pocket?"
The New Jersey Devils.
dlr's band before van halen was a rnb group funnily enough so it makes sense
Shit, here I go again, crying like a little girl over Eddies death and I’m a 54 year old man. You were the soundtrack to my youth Eddie. This world thanks you.
54 HERE ALSO. I am with you. I remember vividly playing air guitar to this as a little kid. It started my whole music career.
17 year old and I have been crying all day.

RIP Eddie. Your music is legendary and you will live on forever.
This reminds me of being young and rebellious and just running wild and doing what I wanted to do
And nothing or no-one documenting it for public scrutiny.
Imagine hearing this for the first time on the radio when it was first released. That was me. It was like from another universe. The siren and bass intro. DLH’s screeching. Pounding drums. And an instant guitar god. Still gives me a rush, and I listen to this song all the time.
it would be like these kids who got to hear it before anyone ua-cam.com/video/HgFjYNPgRwI/v-deo.html
I think you meant to type DLRoth...not DLHalen lol ; )
I'm on an old-folks chat room. I advised many to play it LOUDLY to get the teens out of bed.
It’s not a siren it’s 3 different car horns blended

And it's aged so well, sounds barely dated.
Glad that I was there when they opened for Black Sabbath!
Undoubtedly, but I liked Fair Warning and Diver Down better, if I had to pick. FW was harder, darker, but DD was just straight up a party album. I have fond memories of playing in the pool with Diver Down cranked. The summer that came out was a blast.

As a 16 year old guitarist who first heard Van Halen 1 in a friends basement in 1978, his death today marks the passing of the most influential guitar player in history. There were guitarists I liked more, but Eddie was a force of musical nature, like Mozart. You can’t know what it was like in 1978 unless you were there. The world was already full of hot shot guitar players as guitar solos were still popular and necessary in songs, if you can believe it. We were surrounded by solos. Out of an already elite atmosphere comes someone who reinvented the guitar, by borrowing, stealing and adding his own personality. This was no Berkeley grad snob with an ‘education’, but a natural innovator who could not even read music. We heard ‘eruption’ and could not even understand what we were hearing. Was it a guitar, a keyboard, voodoo magic? And this was right in the middle of disco!
All the hot shots who came after: Steve Vai, satriani, malmsteen, would not have existed without VH. They added more speed and more technique, but none could match the sheer personality and songwriting chops of Eddie. I stress songwriting, and the ability to make a song memorable by the masses, not just guitar players. How many people (non guitarists) do you know that can tell you the title of one song from any of these other guitar players? VH not only wrote the most iconic hard rock riffs in history, his sense of melody and feel and tone were unmatched, and still are to this day. He is a once in a generation comet we will likely not see again.
Van Halen, the band, through sheer force of talent, drive, their outsized personalities, influenced every rock band in the 80’s, creating a copycat machine of terrible bands and players who tried to be VH, or David Lee Roth, and failed. This stink of hair bands and ever accelerating , million notes a minute guitar players could only be erased by the arrival of Nirvana and grunge in 1992. Suddenly, guitar solos were passé, and I was glad to see the clone wankers go the way of the dinosaur.
Today, most under 30’s don’t even know who Van Halen is or was. His music, his instrument, the guitar, and guitar solos, no longer fits in with what is cool. Real musicians with actual talent, the abilty to perform live, put on a show without backing tracks or silicone inflated buttocks, no longer matter in the “music” world. It’s now George Orwell’s 1984, with covid banning live music everywhere. You can read the book, but I’m going to listen to the last album by the original Van Halen.
Jimi Hendrix is the most influential guitarist in the history of Rock & Roll.
@Craven Moorehead He absolutely is and he is far more influential than Eddie Van Halen. That is known.
Are you really going to act this way? 🤔 Someone made an outpouring of what they felt within themselves & your only response is "no, you're wrong, this is right" what is your major malfunction? You didn't even give a plausible reason as to why you THINK that is true, you just stuck your fingers in your ears and went "la la la" 🤷♂️
Grow up, a great legend that changed the industry for the better has died, this isn't a platform for your bitch fit, away with you.
Craven Moorehead most artists overwhelmingly recognize Jimi Hendrix as the best and most influential rock guitarist ever. You are simply not telling the truth.
No Thanks the truth should be told. Jimi Hendrix is virtually universally regarded as the greatest rock & roll guitarist ever. Eddie Van Halen was one of the greatest but Jimi Hendrix was an institution unto himself.
You were a God among men. Often imitated but never duplicated. Your music was and will remain a part of my life until I too meet my end. There are way too many memories to put down about what your music has meant to me over the course of my life. Tonight, I will have a drink and listen to your incredible talent and ability. RIP Eddie.... your heroes are waiting at the pearly gates \m/
So true Cindy. I was in high school the day their first album came out and went to the record store and bought it. The Van Halen band was part of my up bringing. I just dug out my box of concert tickets and counted 22 concerts I went to. Their style, their shows, and their music still lives in me .

So freakin good. The music, the guitars, the harmonies…such an awesome band
30 seconds into this first song on a debut album and you already know these guys are going to be huge.
I was 17 the first time I heard this on KISW in Seattle. I thought what the hell was that. Bought the album the next day.
Why does Alex not get enough credit for his drumming skill. He's been playing at a top level for a long time.
Alex was a classically trained piano player and he was actually the first guitar player in Van Halen and Eddie was on the drums and then they switched places Alex knew how to read a music score Eddie didn't know how to read music well he probably did but Alex was giving the credit
Because Alex's playing is meh.

I'll never forget buying VH's debut album, (after a recommendation from Circus magazine), putting needle to vinyl and turning it up to ten. The siren, then that blistering guitar. No one had heard anything like it. Running with the devil really blew my hair back. The whole album did. Eddie's tone is like a nuclear steam rocket engine and Van Halen was just so much fun.

This is cool to go back and relive, but when this came out, it was on another level. You’d pull up to a light and it would be in surround sound, blasting out of 3 or 4 cars. Rock then was good, but this is so different from Frampton, Zeppelin, Skynard and so on. Even kids that listened to top 40, had this playing at the Park, for the whole group to hear, while talking or throwing a ball around vs on an iPod with ear buds while texting the kid next to them. We had it so good, and Van Halen was a huge part of it.
David Lee Roth was fuckin awesome!! Saw Van Halen twice in the early eighties!!!!!
The culture of music has changed so much. I think it was much more of a sharing experience back then because of that social aspect of it, whereas now it's a private thing with people sitting in the corners of their rooms. And everybody has their own customized personal playlist on streaming or whatever. Just a totally different vibe.
I was born too late. I wish I grew up in these eras when Rock n' Roll was king. Back to where it all began, the opening track to a legendary debut album of one of the most legendary Rock Bands of all time. Thank you EVH for this.

On this day in Music - 10 Feb 1978
Van Halen released their self-titled debut studio album. Peaking at No.19 on the Billboard 200 the album went on to sell more than 10 million copies in the US. The album contains some of Van Halen's most well-known songs, including 'Runnin' with the Devil', 'Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love', 'Jamie's Cryin'', and their cover of The Kinks' 'You Really Got Me'. The 1 minute and 42 second Eddie Van Halen instrumental 'Eruption' featured on the album is considered one of the best electric guitar solos of all time and popularised the technique of two-handed tapping.
Love me some Van Halen, been runnin a Long Time....
The legend lives in all of us. WE LOVE YOU EDDIE. We'll miss you.
This was the opening tune on tour for their album in ‘78. Lights go down, Eddie dive bombs and all hell breaks loose. I remember it like it was yesterday. Man concerts were fun back then.
Jerry Davis Im not someone who is stuck in the past or wishes they lived in fucking 1976. Im aware this song came out in ‘78 but you get my point. Either way, the problem with today is the phones man, people just need to experience it and not be on there phones. Makes the crowd so dead, and makes the experience kinda junk. Im aware you want to be able to show you were there, and be able to look back, but then there is no story to be told. Because no matter what, the camera doesn’t capture the experience as well as someone who lived to tell the tale🤷♂️, just my thoughts. Adios
Freakin right man. U nailed it. Still got all those memories in my head from back then. Thank God for that. Rock On🔊🎸🎤
Not that I don’t believe you, but they Opened with On Fire 99% percent of the time; however they could’ve edited their set list for that show though since they were the opening act for Black Sabbath, Journey and Boston depending on where you saw them.
I played guitar from 1966....when l first heard VanHalen l said how in the hell is he doing that shit ?? Then l got my issue of Guitar Player mag in 1978 and Eddie divulged some of his technique....l still can't play that stuff lololol
In Louisville KY van Halen opening band and they opened with running with the devil eddie had his bombshell amp rack the next act Ronnie Montrose and then journey with a new singer by the name of Steve Perry . steve Perry and berg rookie sat behind us at the sound board for van Halen had no clue as. To who they were
I have been following you and your great music from day one, and you always have it and bring it !!!!! Thank you!!!!
The greatest intro track to an intro album of all time. I'm relatively young but listened to a lot of music. This to me just takes the cake because this was the first time a sound like this was created so much passion was put into the making of this. Nothing beats Eddie's intro bridge sweep into the massive power chord slide riff and Dave's shrieks. One word to describe it, "Provocative".
I love how Eddie gets like 15% of the camera shots and they don't even pan on him during his solo - they had no idea
I was thinking the exact same thing. I wanted a close up on that guitar!
He doesn't need it. Think of Angus, equally great..some like the attention, some don't
I agree Angus is great guitar player . But he's never been close to Eddie. There's a reason the call him the King, listen to the leads. He brought so much to the table for the modern guitar player
The Deadly Hoe I agree with you, EVH is damn good but DLR is wild, unchained, totally free and more improvisational, I could go out on a limb and say EVH is a bit more restrained and elegant, aka European, while Dave is American to the bone. + yeah, I think Eddie could've been jealous, I mean, the band was named after him.
The Deadly Hoe Well, actually, the band's name is Van Halen, not Lee Roth. It shouldn't be all about Dave, when in fact the most important members of the band (and the founders of the band) are Eddie and Alex. Especially Eddie, who's lead guitar. It's Ed and Al's band, really. Of course the Eddie wouldn't like Dave getting all the attention, it's not Roth's band! A band has yo be equal, not someone overpowering the rest of the band.
I saw these guys at age 16 yrs old in 1980 was quite hammered a couple hours prior to showtime and thank god I sobered up enough to go. I was SO HAPPY I was able to see them in their prime. Wow, looking at these guys makes me realize why Democrat kids are all turning into fruities. What you guys need is a real man's music. Go watch the new M&M rapper, only he's not pathetic like M&M. His name is Tom McDonald. I recommend his 2 songs: Clown World & Trying To Kill Me.
Eddie, for nearly 30 years your epic solos always shook up my entire house. RIP, Super Shredder! 🤟 🤟 🤟
Sophomore in high school when this came out. Blew us all away, over and over and over again.
I agree.. I started getting hooked and into them on the Fair Warning album.. I played that cassette till the tape busted in my boombox.. Went out and got another one..
i was dead when this came out
their was thank God a lot of Dutch -INDO flavour blood in this rock band, what a sound, and the lead guitar and drums by the Van Halen brothers, made it all succesful!!!
23 yrs old but this by far my favorite band ever
eddi will be teaching hendrix to tap. and playing with all the legends who fell before him
dont worry we still have his music.
I consider this my song, they called me the Red Devil. This is by far their greatest album!!!
Drove many miles listening to this!! Great for driving overnight!!!
