I had a 1982 Crown Supersaloon in Iraq 15 years ago. It had the 5M engine, 5 speed manual transmission and a carbureted fuel delivery. Was a great car I still miss today!
We have the same spec here in the Philippines. would you happen to know what's the estimated fuel economy/consumption of the 5M carb engine? both highway and city? Thank you so much!
Very cool. My father had a 1982 Royale 2.8 diesel with 3 speed on the column. It was LHD and it had a release on the left of the steering to release the rear passenger door. It was an awesome car and he put about 1,000,000 miles on the car.
Great review mate, been a subscriber for a while and I really appreciate you reviewing everyday cars and even some rarer examples like the crown reviewed here. If you're ever interested in reviewing a Daihatsu Mira 1993 model let me know :)
Hi Mate. Thank you for the offer. I am a car lover. So, would definitely would love to do a video on your your car. I will PM you with more details. Thank you for your support. Cheers for
you have a fellow reviewer on YT, he's indian like you; is reviewing in your genes? :) Very meticulous, well spoken, good information and the (visual) lay-out of the video's is excellent (many reviewers do not bother to take the car to the road!!). The Crown is such a beautiful car, in Europe you hardly see them; such a shame :(
Amazing that today 1500kgs is the weight of most mid sized cars, even the wrx is approaching 1600kg. I remember thinking that the 1jz/1uz soarers were hugely heavy at 1600kgs, now I think how did they get such a big luxury car so light! Lol
Correct! Subaru has a thing called ''boron steel safety cage'' The 'B' pillars on modern Subarus are so strong, firefighters were having trouble cutting them with the ''jaws of life'' This article may interest you! www.boronextrication.com/2009/11/04/subaru-uhss-and-boron/
I own a 1987 Cressida with the same 5M 6 cylinder engine. With a 5 speed manual gearbox. It weighs around 1250kgs since it's smaller and doesn't have all the luxuries of the Crown. The engine feels great in a lighter car with a manual gearbox.
Hey mate. Great video. I think one day you should review on of the Australian legends like the Falcon XR6 Turbo or the Commodore SS. Keep up the good work.
OMG, Im glad you mentioned the velour seats, I really wish they would bring them back, leather seats are horrible in Australia and the fabric they use for modern cars is very boring.
Hi Everyone, I hope you will enjoy this video. I really loved the car. Please feel free to share your thoughts and experience on this car. I am trying to expand my channel so you are more than welcome to share this video/channel with other car lovers. Cheers.
Ah, wow, ok. Have you ever considered recording viewer's cars? I am located I think fairly close to you based off your video locations, and like you always having different cars. If you wanted some more variety I think it would be pretty cool
I would love to do that. Another viewer Bliky Bill also offered the same thing. At the moment, I have already 13 videos recorded from last year and I am in the process of editing them. Once I tidy them I will definitely get in touch with you and organise some thing. Again, thank you for the offer.
Nice looking car. For some reason, the Toyota Crown never sold well in the USA. I don't know why. I reckon that they weren't sure how to market the car.
@@jasoncarpp7742 Back in 81 when dad bought his 81 white Crown, I thought a lot of the yank cars with the twin headlights were Crowns I saw on TV here in AU
Good observation. The coolant temp sensor was leaking and the previous owner bi-passed it but left sensor connected to the dash. So, now it gives readings like this.
The inline sixes on Toyota Crowns and Cressidas were known to be based on Mercedes engines. Same with Datsun's inline sixes of the 70s and 80s such as 240z, 240k, 240c, 260, 280 variants etc. Also the early Skylines.
Really nice car, can anyone please tell me if these cars are popular to modify or "hot up" as we say here in Australia? & what is usually done to them to do this.I was thinking that only the models after this are popular for that-cheers
TOYOTA CROWN DULUXE SUPER SALON MODEL 1982 ORIGINAL THE CAR JAPANESE TOYOTA CROWN NICE CAR MADE IN JAPAN 👌👍👏 ( I LOVE 👄💋👍👏👌CAR TOYOTA CROWN I'M FROM IN IRAQ )
That 81 Crown has been chopped up by friend's nephew who gave me nothing for it, head eaten out, block face pitted, trans half stuffed, worn yoke bearing, slow to engage, burnt fluid, rusted boot gutter
Get in a modern car with leather seats on a hot day and you'll boil your asshole..not like this car. Lovely interior. Overhead rear air vents! All Crown's were slow as so damn heavy...especially the early models that were 2 speed auto! All Crown's were also very expensive and were used as limousines in Asia...

I have one like this, but with a carburetor instead of injection.. This is very strong and dependable car till now and for many coming years too.
Very reliable car indeed.

Well said mate. Its all the new safety geras on modern cars that's contributes to the extra weights.

Interesting article. Never really thought this from emergency service crew's point of view.
I drive my dad's 1992 Ford Fairlane 5.0 Ghia V8 and was astonished to find out it weighs only about 1550kg.

I would love to review a SS, XR6 or a Monaro. I will do a video moment I have access to any of these cars.
Thank you for your encouraging comment.
It was a 3-speed with overdrive lock (some people called this a 4th transmission).
OMG, Im glad you mentioned the velour seats, I really wish they would bring them back, leather seats are horrible in Australia and the fabric they use for modern cars is very boring.
@4:14 Including the M5-GE with 5 speed manual or 2 liter inline 4 turbo for the sake of lower taxation.
nice video brother, shame import fees are so much because im looking for one of these

Best review of this car on youtube. & in Australia too:). What fuel does it use, super or unleaded?
From memory this used leader petrol. Not 100% sure though.
It has hardened valve seats, can use unlead petrol
Bang on about the seats. So comfy
👍
I mean the 1982 crown royal salloon 2800 EFI model exactly like the one in this video. Are they popular for street racing etc-cheers
Good lord, where did you find this thing? I never see these on our roads anymore.
Lol.
This particular one is from Kadina :)
Z Car Reviews nice pickup. Look after her! If you decide to let it go, maybe flick me a message :)
She is already gone :(

The Cressidas sold well there though.
The Crown is a rip off version of Chev Caprice or Ford Crown Vic
@@alphamaledriveshard Yes, the Cressida was sold here in the USA, from 1977 until the early 1990s.
@@manFromPeterborough I think it looks way better than the Caprice or the Crown Vic.

What is the size of the engine?
It's a 2.8L Inline Six.
What year come with cruise control
I wonder if the car actually running at normal temperature 1:15

what is this model crown TK - 95 as seat belt shows. i would like to buy spare parts where i can buy.
Very informative review on a forgotten luxo barge. Sweet Mercedes based engine. I like the version with twin headlights best.
How is it a Mercedes based engine? Which engine is in this car again?

Is it worth to change the engine to v8?
I have the 81 model I would like to get rid of (Peterborough SA)
